I listen to Newstalk ... but not between 12pm-2pm Mon to Fri.

What else is on between 12 and 2 with regards to talk radio though?

Haven't been able to sit through a show for weeks.

Sounds like it's not getting any better.

I wonder if the hook monster would take an olive branch

She's been holding at in or around 100k since she took over the show. That's a pretty big drop given (as far as I know) nothing much has changed on the show.

I wonder what caused the drop?

In George hooks last round of figures before he got the chop he was on 102,000 listener's, if my maths are correct that's a drop of 10,000 listener's in that time slot.
As to what caused the drop will that's anyone's guess but for me it's just boring

I turn over an odd time while driving to see if there's anything good on. 2 minutes and I'm gone again.

The only honest radio presenter left not afraid to say things as they are.

Yeah I'm confused a bit as well. Normally with a new show there is a bit of a boost as more people tune in to hear what it is like. But given the level of her broadcasting I was pretty sure that this would last for only one JNLR period.

And it is a pretty significant drop.

Annoying and all as that is, it's not new is it? Wouldn't explain the drop would it.

Just thinking the other day that Hook has disappeared completely. (That's a positive in my view)

Does he pop up on anything as a guest these days?

It would seem he's retired in the literal sense.

He announced he was going to start podcasting around 5 months ago, but it didn't happen, https://www.ghav.ie/ . I don't know why. His twitter account was taken down recently, but he has been on a youtube channel "Rugby Wrap Up" during the world cup.

I remember when I heard those ads, I noticed he was mainly asking for sponsorship. He was asking for any companies who wanted to be involved to get in contact for to discuss opportunities.
I thought it was a strange way to go about it. Surely if he had produced as little as ten episodes of a polished podcast with interesting topics and guests, he'd have had plenty companies queuing up to get involved.

Maybe it had nothing to do with this why it didn't make it to air.

I think companies would of been quite wary of getting involved, tbh. Advertisers on the High Noon were targeted online after that comment. Patreon might of been a way to go, he did have a loyal following.

Priceless - Ciara has two 'young' people in to talk about the teaching of sexuality in Irish schools - both with foreign sounding names and accents and one gay and the other who says she is not straight but doesn't wish to be put into a category. You couldn't make it up - very reflective of the population i.e 100% of young people are either gay or don't wish to be in a specific category.

Yeah, wonder how representative they are of the majority of teenagers.

Do they need to be? Should education be just about majority. Plus suggesting there should be more about sexual health and consent isn't exactly groundbreaking stuff that affects only an odd gay pupil. Not to mention issues around porn.

It just seems lately radio stations are killing themselves rolling out interviewees from minority groups no matter the subject.

From my perspective it’s the new “liveline” format. It’s brutal.

Ciara should just get guests on to debate topics or interview people. Listener’s texts can be read out etc, having this “cranks” calling in to rant is the dullest form of radio.

That's the issue I have with it. I like Ciara's style and I liked the show when she had guests (although other programmes might be covering the subject) but the call in format is awful. They should limit the cranks to Fridays.

Had the misfortune of having to listen to about a minute of this a few minutes ago, all she was doing was babbling on about Gay Byrne calling her Dr. Kelly, she is truly insufferable and has serious notions of herself.

FFS, I'm in the US and I can see from here the entire country is talking about Gay Byrne.

Maybe you should carry a warning bracelet or necklace, 'Don't expose this person to Lunchtime Live on Newstalk - Irrespective of content, they will break out in righteous indignation'.
I don't know where you were 'exposed' to the show but maybe talk to the shop or business and they'll turn it off for you. Nobody should have to tolerate something which they find so difficult to handle.

I have to admit, I think Ciara has come on a great deal recently. I used to turn off after Pat, but recently I've found her show much more relaxed or something. I tend not to stick around for the heavier topics - although that's not saying they shouldn't be covered - but I have found myself quite enjoying the lighter stuff lately.
