Was hoping Gabby was going to go into beast mode like she has shown for the last few weeks as I wouldn't mind someone dominating the ladies game for a while, but clearly hard courts need work for her.

    Pleased for Petra obviously.

    Ladies side really open now.

Men's bottom half is basically a glorified 250, but its been entertaining enough, although not sure I'd want this for many Slams.

Dolgo playing well enough to trouble Nadal this evening I think. Rafa will probably just about come through but wouldn't be surprised if we see 5.

Not sure who I want to lose more, both in their own way typify the greed and depths a modern day sportsman will sink for success.

    In what way?

Definitely on the Nadal bandwagon for this match, Dolgo is rotten.

Nadal handling business business so far easily enough, 2-0.

Pleased to see Dolgo lose,in a perfect world that would be his last Slam match for a while, but the tennis integrity unit are useless sadly.:(

I do like his crazy serve though.

Throw up and hit the ball as quick as ya can on the way up.

Mental but class at the same time

I love Dolgopolov's game! He can just be so erratically up and down mentally. When he's on he's great to watch but he wasn't on today. The depth of Nadal's draw is laughable. It's the 2nd easiest run to a slam semi I've ever seen apart from Carreno-Busta's in this very tournament. It can work against him mind, not being tested before a good opponent.

Can't wait for Theim v Delpo. Love if Juan took it.

Hopefully there is nothing too seriously wrong with delpo would be a shame to see him retire.

He looks dead on his feet. See his eyes? Looks like he's just back from an all weekend session.

Whatever he took for that illness I want. Crazy match.

Fed breaks kohlscreiber right after they put up a statistic saying that kohl hasn't dropped a set and has only been broken once

    Delpo Thiem has been fantastic.

Side note, the ball boys/men at US Open are really good, some of their catches have been exceptional.

    What a ****ing comback!!!!:eek::)

That was incredible from del potro, makes me wonder what he was given ;)

Hard to believe he will have much left for the QF, looking good for Fedal 38!

damn... medical time out despite winning the first two sets

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,150 ✭✭✭Floppybits

That was some magic tablet that the doctors gave to Del Potro, be good to know what it was that they gave him.  I didn't think he was going to finish the match with the way he played in the first 2 sets. But what a finish, poor Thiem must be wondering what the hell happened.  :)

It was an incredible match. I couldn't keep my eyes open when the fifth set came about and I was up for 7 but I somehow struggled through. It was worth it! Federer vs Del Potro could be a cracker.

Sorry I missed that! When I went to bed it looked like Thiem had it in the bag. This tournament is finally getting interesting.

Seemed like a cracker alright. I gave up halfway through the 4th

Just looking at the womens side. 4 Americans in the QFs. Must be an awfully long time since that last happened at a GS

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,150 ✭✭✭Floppybits

2002 was the last time that 4 American women reached the quarter finals of the US Open.

Federer vs Del Potro tomorrow. Who to cheer in that one? I want see Delpo doing well but I also want to see Roger get the last major of the year.  Should be a great match hopefully.  Bit of a bore fest tonight on the mens side with Querry vs Anderson being the main match on Arthur Ashe tonight.
The womens is more interesting with Williams vs Kvitova,  would love to see Kvitova win that one.

Irish youngster Simon Carr is in 2nd round action today in Boys singles and doubles. Singles should be starting around about now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,150 ✭✭✭Floppybits

Carr won the first set 6-4. Its 2-2 in the second

Bless Tennis Ireland getting excited on Twitter about Carr being the first Irish player to reach the last 16 at a Grand Slam. Just ignoring the fact its in the Boys. :)

It would be great to have some fresh faces in the Finals. It's been pretty much the same 8 players for the past few years.

As long as they play like they deserve to be there. Actually I'd have more faith in some of these guys making a mark at the finals than the likes of Berdych, Tsonga etc.

Williams and Kvitova was a very good match.
I'm not sure how Williams won, Kvitova was the better player but made too many errors late on.
Venus must be hot favourite now.
