The gardaí are lazy and don't care about doing their job the majority of the time.

You're confident that a majority of 15,000 guards are lazy and don't want to be there?

I pity the guard that has to deal with this kind of attitude on in a daily basis.

Hope your man in the A4 gets torn a new one for that, 191kph? Reckless endangerment doesn't even cut it.

Someone in the Lucan/Clondalkin area has one of these, flies up and down the canal bike path on it. Quite annoying when you're out for some fresh air and this thing leaves a trail of fumes that you're stuck cycling into. Nevermind the sound of the feckin thing...

It is this type of individual who will most likely not be deterred by a disqualification or even a short prison sentence.

probably has no insurance for previous drink driving aswell

And it's those pricks that if they are in accident walk away without a scratch and the person they hit is killed

Arent there lower and higher limits, depending on drivers license?
By saying 6x it might make it a lot more spectacular than giving the exact Ug/l

Could well be a new licence holder or professional such as truck or bus which are given the lower amount.

Lower or higher limit, 6 times is 6 times. Doesn't really make it any more acceptable. The justice system is appalling. That prick should be banned for life and receive a lengthy sentence for it. He could have killed somebody, he should be treated as if he did with the risk he posed.

Time to start legislating for minimum sentences for drink driving amongst other things.

For something of the limit it should be 5 years without any hope of remission.

As for other crimes and sentencing, we'll deal with that elsewhere.

I'm only focusing on the topic at hand.

There really should be graduated penalties for offences like drink driving and speeding - the more you're over, the greater the penalty should be

Really? Ever driven on a German autobahn? Most have no speed limit and the older stretches are built to a far lower standard than our motorways.

Our motorways are our safest roads, speed enforcement on motorways is a waste of Garda resources.

Fingal County Council are certainly not competent to be making decisions about the most important piece of infrastructure on the island. They need to stick to badly designed cycle lanes and deciding on whether Mrs Murphy can have her kitchen extension.

No doubt some on here will tell you that the reason our motorways are so safe is because of the speed enforcement. I disagree with them. Watching dash cam threads on here proves that it is pure luck athat there are not more serious accidents on our motorways.
I also disagree with you that speed enforcement is a waste of Ga resources. It is a lucrative cash collection business. :o:o

Anyone who drives at 191 kph on a motorway is driving like a dick and probably drives like a dick on other roads as well.

Points are points and a ban is a ban, doesn't matter where the enforcement took place.

Ever spoken to anyone who's had to clean up a body after a high speed crash on an autobahn? I have, it's pretty grim.

Regardless of the rights and wrongs of the limit on our motorways (I think they should be higher), that Audi is not on an Autobahn and it isn't being driven in Germany.
It would be fine if, like in Germany, you reasonably expected cars to do that speed and drove with that in mind, people don't expect a non emergency vehicle with no flashing lights coming up behind them at that speed over here as it's not how our motorways work.
What's reckless here is not the same as what's reckless there.
That Audi is driving completely recklessly in regards to his(her) fellow motorists.

Edit: I say this as someone who has to attend when someone like that makes a mistake and bins it.

Compared to everyone else who should be driving up to 120, they are going at greater than 50% of the speed of traffic. Someone planning to overtake, wouldn't see them.

One thing that an awful lot of people on the road forget/don't seem to realise.

The speed limits are a maximum permissible speed and not a minimum or target.

I've come across some people seeing the signs saying "oh but sure i can do at least that"

    The mind boggles

They have restrictions in some areas and an advisory limit of 130.

But, more importantly, as we do have a posted and legal limit other motorists don't expect to encounter, or have to react to, a car doing 191.

Maxed out at just under 220 on the autobahn last week.
Tell ya it's frightening. The adrenaline seriously pops and it's not pleasant as you're constantly expecting something so you don't fully enjoy it.
That being said, the autobahn may mostly be unrestricted but good luck getting to enjoy it for long with the amount of traffic and road works they have.
