Lads, what's the format of the promotion/relegation again? Team in first automatically promoted. And teams in 2nd and 3rd in semi-play off? Then winner of that plays team finished last in division above it?

    No
First in each division gets promoted to the higher division automatically. 2nd, 3rd and 4th go into playoff with 9th from the higher division and 10th get relegated automatically.
10th in each division relegated automatically. 9th in 2C playoffs against second from the round robin

Ah thanks for that! And what's format of 2nd, 3rd and 4th go into playoff with 9th from the higher division? Is it 2nd v 3rd and winner plays winner of 4th and 9th?

Yeah. 9th from higher division is at home to 4th from lower division and then its 2nd v 3rd. Then in the final playoff the highest placed side is at home so basically 4th from the lower division will never be at home in the playoffs but any of the other sides could be at home

    Round Robin starts this weekend
    7/4
    Ashbourne v Instonians
    Ballina v Bandon
    21/4
    Bandon v Ashbourne
    Instonians v Ballina
    28/4
    Ashbourne v Ballina
    Bandon v Instonians

Ashbourne have already won all ireland junior cup and this was for second season in a row. Ballina are in the round robin for the second season in a row and already have won a treble in Connacht, and are averaging 35 points per game across all competitions.
Bandon won Junior cup last season and followed it with a league this season. Regis Sonnes heads back to France at end of season and senior status would be perfect present.
Instonians have longest record as a senior club(Ashbourne/Bandon never have been senior and its over a decade since Ballina were last senior)

    Trinity win 11-10.

Harry Byrnr missed late pen for win.

Paddy Finlay was excellent for Trinity, Leinster should look at him.

    Some great games this weekend

    1A
Buccaneers v Garryowen - Garryowen will surely look to cement their play-off place
Cork Con v Terenure - Big game for both - the winner moves into pole position for home play-off
St Marys v Clontarf - Interesting to see how Marys react to Trinity win last night, important they get some momentum going into playoffs, Doris would be a big boost. Must win game for Tarf to keep play off hopes alive.
Young Munsters v Lansdowne - Big game for both teams - Munsters chasing play off spot whilst if we can eek out a win we secure 1st spot. Lansdowne track record in Munsters has been pretty poor last few years so would be good to change that trend.

    1B
Dolphin v Ballymena - Dolphin gone at this stage but Ballymena still not safe
Old Belvedere v Shannon - Shannon within a point of Automatic promotion whilst Belvo with nothing to play for. Would expect them to push Hinch hard
Old Wesley v Ballynahinch - Wesley still not definitely safe so important game for them particularly if Ballymena win. Hinch meanwhile looking to secure no 1 spot
UL Bohs v Naas - Naas look safe barring a collapse over next 2 games whilst Bohs desperate for the win to dig themselves out of the relegation play off spot.
UCC v Banbridge - Both looking good for play off spot with Banbridge still in with a shout for automatic promotion.

    2A
    Highfield v Malone
second v first. A win or point for Malone gives them the league title.
    Cashel v Blackrock
Cashel are fourth and looking to make third for tie against second rather than 1B side up first in playoffs. Lose and they could end up in fifth for the final round and outside playoff spot. Blackrock are five clear of relegation playoff and any points should ensure their safety
    Armagh v Galwegians
Armagh need sides above them to slip up to get a promotion playoff spot and should get a win against Galwegians whove slipped a bit after a good run of wins that came after their shock win over Nenagh
    Corinthians v Greystones
Corinthians will be very disappointed to have lost late to Nenagh last week and have to win this week to avoid automatic relegation. A win for Greystones will put them safe from relegation and depending on other results may ensure they dont have to playoff for 2a place as well.
    Nenagh v Queens University
Nenaghs win over Corinthians stopped a run of three winless games and another win this week should ensure their place in the playoffs and they should get that against a Queens side with little to play for.
    2B
Belfast Harlequins v City Of Derry
Nothing to play for bar pride. Derry are relegated and Harlequins are waiting to find out their opposition in the 2B/2C playoffs
    Dungannon v Sundays Well
Both have nothing to play for. Long trip for the well so home side to win.
    MU Barnhall v Old Crescent
Crescent are champions and promoted but will want to keep an unbeaten season. Barnhall will want to keep up form for the promotion playoffs.
    Rainey Old Boys v Navan
Both sides are preparing for the playoffs. Rainey should win by a score
    Wanderers v Skerries
Neither side have anything to play for. Wanderers to win as at home
    2C
    Bangor v Seapoint
Bangor should be safe but a win will guarantee that. Seapoint need a win to keep above their rivals in the relegation playoff
    Bruff v Bective Rangers
Bective need to win or their relegation to junior will be mathematically confirmed. Bruff are just above the playoff spot with 2nd in the round robin
    Malahide v Sligo
Both likely to be in promotion playoffs if not automatically promoted. This game is just deciding order
    Midleton v Omagh
Midleton are in the promotion fight. Omagh need results to go their way to get into top four
    Thomond v Tullamore
Should see Thomond keep push on to win the league.

Super win for Trinity-were down 10 nil after 6 minutes but were by far the better team for the rest of the match. UCD barely got into Trinity half in second half. Finlay excellent and Courtney scored a very good try to win it with 10 to go catching the ball one handed off a great flick on by Whittle and rounding Patterson into the corner.

Marys likley to play UCC in playoff-that will not be easy

So next week is final round of league before playoffs
Results IMO next week will make semi finals as Lansdowne v Garryowen, Cork Con v Terenure
Buccs are relegated to 1B. Marys into playoffs.

A win of any kind next week against UCC gives Shannon league title and promotion to 1A otherwise Ballynahinch or Banbridge could catch them. Both Ulster sides are guaranteed promotion playoff spots but next weeks result determines the order they finish. UCC will finish 4th unless they beat Shannon and Banbridge lose. Dolphin are relegated to 2A while the promotion relegation spot will be UL Bohemian or Old Wesley but Ballymena and Naas could be dragged into it if they lose and Bohs, Wesley win.

Highfield beat Malone today to take 2A league title to the final day. Nenagh lost with 2 bonus points while Cashel won and these will fight out for third and fourth next week.
Corinthians are bottom of 2A. They need 5 next week to avoid straight relegation.
the playoff spot is between Galwegians, Blackrock and Greystones. Galwegians are on 30 points and 'rock and 'stones are on 31 points.

Crescent drew today so have 16 wins from 17. Theyre promoted. Rainey lost to Navan without a bonus today almost certainly will finish 2nd. Barnhall 3rd and Navan 4th. Derry relegated. Belfast Harlequins in relegation playoff

Sligo and Thomond are top of 2C. Both on 51 points. They play in strandhill next week. winner league title whoever loses should end up in third as Malahide are in Donnybrook against already relegated Bective. Tullamore need a win against Bangor to avoid playoff against 2nd in round robin

In the round robin first round of games today Ballina beat Bandon 45-26 while Ashbourne and Instonians drew 24-24. Bandon lead with 5 points, Ashbourne have 3 points, Instonians 2 points and Bandon 1 point

YM unlucky to lose? Havent heard reports from the game.

Delighted for the Shannon win! Hopefully we can secure promotion with the next match

Lansdowne view here so obviously biased but I think we just about deserved it. YM had a couple of kickable penalties in the last few minutes but went for the corner both times as a draw in the general scheme of things was no use to them. We had the better start and got a couple of scores early on and then YM got back into their stride and struck back. YM played a great expansive style of rugby with some decent looking young backs and scored some nice tries as a result.

Unlucky from point of view finished game all over them lansdowne were down to 13 and with bit more composure we could have got the win (would have been bp win as we got 4 tries) but overall id agree with stainalert lansdowne probably deserved it – they really good side , meant a lot to them to win here, to me they are slight favourites to win it.

As for us tis a slightly frustrating season losing few close games but its the trinity games home and away that have cost us, but havce unearthed few good young backs conor hayes, evan ogoran luke fitzgerald, jack lyons , and have makings of very good side. Hope now we can go up to ucd tomorrow and win. Bit weird for us first time since playoffs cam back we havce been out of picture going into last day

Also hoping shannon and thomond win and promoted and bruff and bohs get the needed results to avoid relegation playoffs. The thought of two friday night munsters v shannon games is pretty nice

hope you enjoyed the occasion and that the ultras didnt give you too hard a time!!

noticed after game lansdowne players stayed on pitch in huddle, judging from reactions it meant a lot to them to win this -long time since lansdowne won here 1997 i think
