There will be another boom of insulating ones home.

We got the house done, walls pumped, extra insulation in the loft and all that rubbish, the house is still cold half an hour after the heating clicks off

I wouldn’t be up to speed on supports or help that may be available to elderly people or others. Have you requested help off your local td and councillors?
I feel myself that the elderly are always disadvantaged in relation to the younger society.
If one needs a council house or let’s be posh about it and call it a social house, do they really need it when you see them with a new car parked in the drive?
There really needs to be a shake up on government payees.

What the fúck are those cúnts of Greens going to do for those that buy their kerosene by the 5 litres?

Because in the very comfortable dublin 4 fashionable suburbs the greens exist in, things like that don't happen. I hope they get decimated in the next election.

They don’t need the next election. They have their job done.

Don't you believe it, there is always the next level of madness. Compulsory veganism or something.

I’d say the greens won’t be in coalition in next election but who knows. If they will be it’s the working man that will be paying once again.

I'm not quite at that stage myself but it's those that are that these taxes hit.

Help of TDs, are to taking the pistachios? Them lads are there to make up numbers and to give us the faux idea that we live in a democracy.

Council houses... should be there as a helping hand, not a crutch that hobbles people.

First they came for the socialists...

I'm taking that as a random idea that they may come up with. I'm presuming you meant it in that fashion, it sounds like a mad idea?!? BUT these days yer some kind of phobe if you don't want to have sex with a "woman" with a raging erection in "her" skirt.

Partially, Boris Johnson was talking about drastically reducing co2 or something like that recently and it was worked out to meet the claims he made, the average person could only eat meat once a week, and then not a lot of it, and only use 2 spoonfuls of milk a day !

The buses in Dublin and i presume countrywide have full length advertisements telling people to go vegan, not veggie, full on vegan !

So while its a daft claim now, give it a few years and i'd say there would be massive taxes on meat and milk, and like the carbon tax, no one will bat an eyelid or fight against it, because if you did you would be attacked as being worse than Hitler.

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out— because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

Pumping the walls doing relatively little. You need a lot of glasswool in the attic. The floor is still bleeding heat. And warm air probably pissing out like steam from a pot of spuds.

A well insulated needs to be built that way from the start. Very hard to retrospectively correct design and build issues.

Not saying they are a waste of time. But they can only make marginal gains. The reality is old houses will be cold.

There is insulation under the floor.

If I was to build a house again I'd go all stud walls even though more fragile than block.Block walls are nearly always cold to the touch and seem to kill heat fierce quick.

The amount of insulation is what’s doing to make the difference. It wasn’t long ago floors were poured on a few token sheet of polystyrene.

    Edit:
To be clear, I’m not say the extra work you did was wrong or that you shouldn’t have. Far from it.
Just that there’s only so much we can do to existing house. These energy schemes are a start, but the government need to drop any notions that people won’t need to heat there house somehow. Oil, gas, electricity. It’s all gonna cost.

Seen, or read, the other day that Ireland has the 5th highest cost for electricity in the world. Germany was the highest believe.

And if you think they are "done" with just this, you are utterly naive!! Germany's shooters and hunters are in a fight to the death to stop the GP,as they are looking for total gun bans in private hands and total reductions and eventual bans on hunting, and rewilding the place with bears and wolves to restore the natural balance. So I wouldn't be surprised if that rot sets in with them here too eventually? Remember their crackpot in cheif suggest vechicle collectivism for

Yup.Because it has to subsidize the MYTH of being able to run an industrialized nation with almost every roof under solar panels and every little hillock having a giant bird mincer on it. Even in the most optimal conditions of a windy and sunny day, Germany couldn't produce 40% of its daily power by green methods...And still has to fire up 3 anthracite burning former E German plants to make up the loss.

Wasn't it the greens that blocked any Nuclear plants and even the exploration of mining ore in Donegal?

Are such plants outright banned or simply not built because the greens have had a say over planning for so long?

There's a very strong environmental case for nuclear. Most of the objections are based more on dogma than science.

I believe the German Green party are currently the highest in the polls, above Merkels CDU ! Turkeys voting for Christmas

I'm doing some reading on it at the moment cause its a topic i know nothing about, but based on reports where the biggest objections were, as you said, based solely on dogma and then having the Greens refuse planning permission in 2007 because Eamon Ryan didn't agree with/like Nuclear power it seems like we've no problem bringing it in from Wales (since closed) and now France, but not to have it ourselves.

Rings the same bells as the peat ban. Don't have the carbon footprint from producing it ourselves but no problem bringing it in.

Yep, and it's got the German shooting community, both hunters and sports shooters on Defcon 1 status! The Watermelons are making gun and hunting bans and gun ownership in private residences part of their political manifesto and agenda.

I have nothing against it per se.Except here in Ireland. Simply because of our lackadaisical attitude to construction projects, that go way over budget, and the attitude of "Ah shure it will do !" and grift and graft and stroke pulling. Building a reactor is dealing with extreme elemental forces of nature where you can't afford to take shortcuts.

Could you imagine if a reactor containment vessel wall is built with pyrite-loaded cement because someone was on the take? Or some cheapo does some grift putting in GB HP pipe when it is stainless thats needed?

Plus, do we really want a real-life cast of The Simpsons running Ireland's answer to the Springfield nuclear power plant? There are enough Montgomery Burns, Waylon Smithers, and Homer Simpsons running the shop as it is, without letting them at a nuke power plant.

Anything goes wrong with one of these, and the excuse of "No one to blame, lessons were learned, we all must move on!" won't cut it if we are all glowing a faint blue, and our kids have webbed feet and an extra hand growing out of their heads and Irelands joins Pipriat as a ghost country?

That seems to be the prevailing opposition. Whatifery.

We might have a few crooked people here and there and a lot are out to get for themselves but lets not dismiss it because we're nervous. if it means people can get clean, and mostly cheap, electricity i say go for it.

Hell you can get hit by a car in the morning, but it won't stop me crossing the road.

    Bit stereotypical & pessimistic, no?

We're well capable of doing big, high tech projects well when we put our minds to it. Look at Intel, they have countries lining up to have the Fabs, but they're staying here - and it's not just for the corporate tax rates (when it comes down to it big corporations pay frig all tax anywhere).

The biggest problem here we'd have is NIMBYism, and I'd get around that by building it in Leitrim. No one cares if Drumshambo or Mohill are the new Pripyat - who'd tell the difference? :)

I’m pro nuclear. Even the Russians Rosatom have decent plants these days. But if he going with the French new reactors. Clean, efficient, proven. Foolproof even by Irish standards. I’m in favour of wind and solar too.
Electric cars are major polluters with battery manufacturing. Plus no point in them if we are using oil, gas and coal to charge them.
