Quick opinion sought on swap from L40 to second-hand L62. This one has been on the forecourt for eight months of a main dealer, sold back to its original garage after eight months from original purchase. Rough cost to change with trade-in of 8k.

Battery and range look fine, but I wonder how well it fares after being parked up so long. Ad had no pics so I guess this was why as the taxation ran out last year and it was not renewed by the garage. Previous owner is listed as a company rather than private individual on cartell. Is this the case for HP financed cars or perhaps it was a demo but not listed as such?

    Well, nada, but no matter!
There was an interesting piece I read on the legacy and future of the LEAF, but little of it will be new to people here but in its entirety it covers quite a lot. It is in Spanish but you can Google Translate the page.
    https://forococheselectricos.com/2020/12/el-nissan-leaf-cumple-10-anos-historia-situacion-actual-y-futuro-de-un-pionero-arrollado-por-el-paso-del-tiempo.html

Of interest is how the post-Ghosn tension between Nissan and Renault resulted in the former effectively dropping the innovation push and favouring on the one side, hybrid or plain ICEs, and on other, belatedly planning to join the increasingly busy D-E segment space of high-end SUVs and crossovers with the Ariya. Then the task of bringing back the C-segment is left to Renault, at least for the European market, with the forthcoming electric version of the Megane, which will take advantage of new platforms and charging/battery technologies. In contrast, the present LEAF whichs chugs on in zombie mode with little innovation from year to year bar the 2018 refresh and the L62 e+ modification.

An update with spyshots are here:
    https://www.carscoops.com/2021/03/new-electric-renault-megane-prototype-caught-for-the-first-time/

The electric Megane is basically the replacement rather than the rival to the LEAF since there seem to be no plans to take advantage of the LEAF brand itself and its earlier guise as a showcase for an electric future that eventually eclipsed it. I doubt the new Megane will be anything near as groundbreaking as the earlier LEAFs but it will fill that gap along with other non-exciting cars like the Peugeot 2008. In the meantime, the LEAF will remain a gateway car to the D segment offerings.

Lastly, there is news from Japan that the Tesla Model 3 is now undercutting the LEAF e+ on raw sale price after incentives, and selling at far below the price we pay for one. Effectively around €34k after incentives with imports from China. I would expect a similar, but much smaller, price drop when Berlin's gigafactory opens. So the LEAF is being cornered out of its own home market, at least on price. As in the US, there is little sense buying a LEAF E+ if an SR+ is priced similarly with supercharing, 11kw AC charging, and all-round superiority on paper and performance, if not in build quality..

Still, I will probably pick up a SH L62 to tide me over for two years until I can get an EV6... At the moment, there are few alternatives without considering crossover designs like the eNiro.

How to Nissan UK Leaf prices compare to Ireland pre/post these price cuts?

Works perfect for me, sounds like typical lazy staff comment. Nissan Connect, current version 3.5.1

Yeah it says 'your vin is wrong' I used the 17 digit vin on the driver side pillar. I've checked a few times I've entered it correct

Yeah, except the start ownership check never works.

Once you have the VRC you can call Nissan Connect's call centre and ask them to make you the owner.

Where would I get the vrc? Is that vehicle registration code?

Vehicle Registration Cert (logbook in old terminology).
You should have it, you need it for NCT I think...

Seems Nissan are going to go all out with the Crossover SUV segment, replacing the hatchback LEAF with (yet) another crossover car in 2025, as well as electrifying the rest of the yokes they have: Juke, Qashqai, X-Trail. In other words, it would be a slightly downmarket and smaller Ariya.

Thankfully that hasn’t happened and Nissan is not only staying in Europe, it’s launching a slew of new, high-tech models. The all-electric Ariya crossover is just arriving in Ireland, as are new hybrid versions of the Qashqai and the new X-Trail SUVs. An all-electric Micra is on the way and by 2025 we will have the third generation of Nissan’s Leaf electric car, which will morph from its current hatchback shape into something a little more SUV-ish

The IT interview above mentions an electric Micra too, which means there won't be anything in the way of larger saloons and hatchbacks like the old school models that were so popular and reliable in decades past. Surely, at some point, the question of the energy efficiency and safety aspects of taller vehicles will be integrated into incentives. I presume all new models in Europe will have active cooling and CCS like the Ariya.
