Is the idea of wii games on switch fanciful? I'd love Zack & Wiki on the Switch, think it'd be an ideal platform for it. Even better, they could do a sequel (though this is probably also fanciful since the first one wasn't a commercial success).

Still, I got to use "fanciful" in a post a few times, so not all bad.

I thought I read somewhere that Gamecube games run poorly on a Tegra X1, and that's with the wonderfully optimized Dolphin emulator. I reckon Ninty could get some extra juice out of the Switch for GC games, given their internal emulator should be more optimised than a 3rd party dev one. Id be surprised to see Wii games running on Switch, unless there was some native Wii hardware inside

I think it’s fake also. Specially since I’d be surprised if virtual console launched like that.

that's a lot of work to put in for a fake though

and why would you bother faking it?

We constantly get fake gaming leaks. Half these leaks we’ve got about the direct next week contradict each other.

It's a very well done fake but all those updates wouldn't all come together at once, I doubt any console has ever got such a loaded update like that all at once. It will be interesting to see if there's a mention of an update in the Direct, I hadn't even thought about that until the fake one came out.

BotW's accounting for ~90% of my play time with the Switch as of yet. Such an entrancing game.

BotW's accounting for ~90% of my play time with the Switch as of yet. Such an entrancing game.

20% of that time is probably looking at loading screens. :pac:

Maybe the only complaint I have about the game is the amount of loading screens you have to sit through - two of them for every shrine and one anytime you want to fast travel. Would also like if there was some sort of quick menu where you could change armour sets in one go and not each individual piece. Other than that the game is fantastic! It's taking up most of my Switch time too, along with some Mario Odyssey.

Got to the ending of Mario last night with about 270 moons. Fantastic game and I want to continue playing straight away to find more moons and experience all the extra things.

It could be difficult to get all moons I say. Reckon I'll try to get to 500 and then start playing BOTW while going back to Mario occasionally to build up the moon count.

213 moons so far. Haven't played much as BotW's taking over my playtime.

I am really disappointed in myself. Haven't turned on my switch in long time.
I still blame a lot of it on xenoblades 2. I lost momentum after getting that game.
Got myself xbox one x tuesday too. Slavery at work does not help too.

So I will be getting Mario Rabbids game after I burn out of BF1 and Witcher 3. Back to beloved switch.

I'm the same but with an oculus rift. Shiny new toy has taken my mind off the switch for a bit!

Well I have spent the weekend with my Switch, first impressions are fantastic, actually kicking myself for waiting as long as I did to get it, the Wii U was a quirky console but it was also a clunky console, the Switch seems to be far more streamlined and clutter free and it has a lovely dashboard and UI, coupled with a solid controller that feels great in the hand, although I will probably still pick up a pro controller before the month is out.

Spent most of my time playing Zelda, I have played plenty of open world games and I have constantly been thinking to myself how the mechanics in the game could make others so much better, loving it so far, messed around with Mario as well, I know I will enjoy it but Zelda grabbed me first.

For all of I Am Setsunas faults looking forward to getting Lost Sphear at the end of the month and going to get Bayonetta again and Kirby Star Allies as well when they are out, going to keep most indie titles though for the PC, they can just be got far cheaper although may double dip for Stardew Valley.

Incidentally (Since Xenji said it) it sucks Switch lacks virtual console and a proper play log thing like 3DS and Wii U had, but I'd rather have a basic stream lined fast UI and dashboard like we have then a cluttered slow UI like the xbox one has, or even the PS4 to a certain extent, even if that means we have to wait/forgo Netflix or Youtube or whatever.

Virtual console is another story, but in relation to Netflix and Youtube I actually have to say I kind of like the Switch being 100% dedicated to gaming.

It helps keep the UI simple and clutter free, and anyway my Switch will never come even close to my iPad (and to some extend to my iPhone) for all the non gaming features they could add to be used on the go; and at home most people who want to do streaming already have a device which can do it (in my case an Apple TV which again suits me better than what the Switch would offer).

I really feel the switch is missing a trophy system :(
A game like Zelda would be perfect for it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,886 ✭✭✭✭Bob24

And actually talking about initially impressions of the Switch ... overall I think they did very well but one complaint I have is around ergonomics in handheld more.

I don't know if it is due to my morphology, but the bottom 2 corner of the console tend to apply strong pressure on specific points of the palm of my hand, and it becomes quite uncomfortable after a while. After a fairly long session my pinkies even start to feel numb as I think it is restricting the blood flow to them.

Did anyone else find that or is it just me?

That would be a perfect addition for the Switch.

Finally picked up a Switch at Christmas. Got to play 15 minutes of Mario before it crashed to a blue screen, won't power up. I heard some rumours about glitches at launch but didn't realise this was still a problem.

Ah that's crap, sorry to hear that.
But, I think you may have picked up a faulty Switch. Haven't heard of any problems since around launch myself.

It's a pain, bit get in contact with the seller and get a replacement.

Funny I'm the opposite, I'm loving the fact that the Switch doesn't have trophies.

    My opinion on this:
I used to think that but then I realized I have renewed focus on actual games themselves and not focusing on some meaningless trophy to collect 100 feathers.
I can see that it extends the life of a game for some people and it has an addictive quality but I personally prefer the Switch without them.

To each there own i suppose :)
From reading online most people want it, but i think thats been the case for years so i dont see Nintendo all of a sudden changing policy
I think what ruins trophies for some is stupid trophies, the grindy ones

That's the crux of it really. And I don't think Nintendo want that in their games.

And aren't some of the power moons in the post-game of SMO basically trophies (that you have to laboriously click through and watch the acquisition animation for each and every one)?

But tbf they are meaningful. They are actual elements of game-play and you are rewarded in game for your efforts.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,014 ✭✭✭✭Corholio

Korok seeds were never meant to be collected in their totality either, they are just little puzzles that occupy your time traversing the world and also going towards upgrading your equipment slots. Some complained about the 'reward' you get when you collect all of them, without realising the joke within.

Idk maybe I'm missing the point but I don't understand why you would want less features when it comes to the likes of netflix and a trophy system.

I get that some people admire it for being a dedicated gaming machine but at the same time will it really detract from your experience if there's an apps section on the e-shop that maybe some people will really benefit from ?

I feel the same way towards trophies. Am I going to collect a hundred thousand korok seeds or even look at the trophy list for Zelda ? No but some people really enjoy that form of completion-ism and who am I to say that that's stupid and it shouldn't be on the console because it's not my cup of tea.

Trophies are not something I'm interested in, never bothered with them on Xbox or PS4 and I won't be starting with Switch. I play a game because I enjoy it, not because I get a virtual high five for doing something.

I don't see the point of Netflix on the Switch either, if I'm traveling I have my phone, if I'm in a hotel I can use my tablet/Chromecast, if I'm at home I can use the built in app on my TVs.

Don't overload a very good gaming device adding extra items that probably won't be used enough.
