wow! just heard on Today FM now that if you're in contract and got a phone as part of the deal you can cancel and keep the phone!

ehhhh that's been said all through this thread.

So if I'm on a sim only plan of €25 a month for 300 units and 5gb of 4G data, will this affect me? Vodafone doesn't seem to be any cheaper.. Sorry if this has been answered already but I find this stuff a bit confusing..

Yep got the text for pre-pay. Hmph, no better offers out there sadly ;/

As much as they would have expected to lose some customers over this, I'm sure it being mentioned on National Radio must have been one of their worst case scenarios.

What's driving me off 3 is mostly the congestion. Their 4G is often slow and their 3G is often just unusable.. You get the occasional very fast connection on 3 but it's so inconsistent I have just given up.

Is it any more reliable on the other networks? With Meteor, certainly not - in my experience. The telecommunications infrastructure is just not sufficiently developed to provide a better level of service.

In Fairness to Vodafone I never had an issue with the quality of their network re congestion or coverage, but then you pay a lot more for it/get less allowances.

I noticed a big change when I moved to 3......4G with full coverage shown and can be totally congested.

This is amazing, thanks OP. Rang up half an hour ago and was told I could leave and with my iPhone, only signed up to a 24month contract in August.

Will probably look to get a bill pay elsewhere and get a new phone. And unlock the old one!

Or sign up to a new bill pay deal with 3?

    1 up for the consumer!

My husband just renewed his contract yesterday at lunch time and no mention of the price hike. They had a big sign outside saying iphone 6s €179 for €40.33 a month.

I on the other hand got an iphone 7 in January on the €55 contract. Does that mean I can cancel change to prepay and not have to pay any fees or extra for the phone?? Seems crazy.

I agree. This is looking more and more like a monumental balls up.

Why was anyone ever on bill pay when the 20 payg option had been there for so long?

It's simple. When I factored in the cost of my phone (which I would have bought outright), it cost me €24/month for unlimited everything on contract.

Adrian Weckler the journalist speaking on Today fm has a bee in his bonnet over the whole roaming thing so is happy to throw a few digs at Three.

You can cancel, your husband can't.

When I was looking at plans yesterday the small print said the price would rise from April so it's not a change of contract for him.

    Need some clarification,

Did people give 30 days notice? I say this because a relative of mine rang up and cancelled, final bill will be sent in a few days.

However I was told I have to wait 30 days for the final bill. I don't mind this it's just that I want to port my number out soon and don't want to wait 30 days.

I eventually got through. Agreed to cancel and revert to pre-pay (refused sim-only bill). They said we'll just put that 30 day notice on your account..... then they dropped the call.

I was told it's 30 days notice. If given today it's to April 1.

As far as I can make out, all of 3's bill pay plans are increasing in price from next month.
This means you can leave your contract if affected, without penalty.
You can check if your plan is increasing here:
    http://www.three.ie/customer-agreement/phone/
I'm just off the phone to 1800 818 021 and cancelled my contract (they're a bit pushy but you just have to stick to your guns that you don't agree to the price hike).

Wondering if you've been experiencing any "dropped calls " since your post?

I had been locked into a contract until Oct 17 on the €55 a month plan, but tbh, the reception got so sporadic with them, i took out a new business contract with vodafone in July last year.

I have been using the number i had with 3 (and O2 before that) for my business mobile since 04, so all of.my customers would have it stored on their phones.

I had all my 3 voice calls diverted to the vodafone SIM, so basically all my 3 contract was being used for was to divert calls from it to a new 087 number i had with VF.

They were made aware of my situation (crap coverage) on several occasions, and could see that i was not using the phone but for the divert to vf option, yet i couldn't get out of contract, or drop the monthly tariff (rules are rules and i get that)

Anyway. All's well that ends well, and I'm now free from contract.

One would be forgiven for thinking they are wanting to head down the "SIM only" service route, because i definitely can t see the logic behind their move.

My 3 number has been my own number now for the last 13 years. I'm very keen to keep it, so i assume if i port it to a vf prepay SIM, and still divert all the calls to my new business SIM, VF-VF calls are free, yeah?

6 minutes on the phone, I acted dumb to be honest and just said I wanted to know what my options were but they were v helpful.

What's the story with meteor now?

I tried cancelling over online chat but they won't allow that, so I have to call that number.

I called, was cut off mid cancelation - called back and the guy was awesome. Straight thru the process, cancelled original contract, onto sim only as of now.

    Easy peasy, no questions asked.

Hi, Can I just confirm something. I'm on a contract with three that doesn't end till April 2018 which had been extended as I also got a phone through them on January 2016. I've been wanting to cancel for a while now as there service has gotten ****e. Will I be able to cancel without having to pay extra for the phone? If so that's great news :) Oh and do I have to wait to get notified, or can I call anytime?

    Oh yes we are lol.

    A 'month'is no longer 30 days but 28 days.

2gb roaming when in Ireland and abroad, replacing three like home.

    Still have ALYCED in Ireland

The price of data within the EU is increasing from 24.6c per MB to 1.01 euro per mb (wat..)

Still have free 3 to 3 in Ireland

No more free weekend calls to other networks (......... :(((( )

Weird, my top-ups last several months?!

I must be on some old plan... I don't use data on my phone as there's free wifi in the places I use my phone (office / house / rail / bar etc), so maybe that's a factor

top up last 30 days, after that your credit starts to be used until you top up again usually
