Young lad 12 months into 24 month contract. €25 pm AYCED etc. Was going up to 29.39 or so. Cancelled without a hastle and down to 20pm PAYG. 28 days as above. But saving 40 per annum (or circa 80 per annum with new tarrif). Delighted to be out of contract and able to change if desired. Requested unlock code today too for iphone 5c. Will be interesting to see if they release it
Can see myself getting piddled off with having to top up every month but should be no biggy. Will revert to other package if i want now. Wahoo.
Oh by the way. 30 day notice required

Do we have until the beginning of April to cancel or does it have to be done asap? Sitting on hold 25 mins wondering if I should call back tomorrow

Seriously debating switching to Virgin Mobile 5 euro for 5 months, 25 afterwards deal. Anybody have any experience with their mobile service?

You can cancel, your husband can't.

When I was looking at plans yesterday the small print said the price would rise from April so it's not a change of contract for him.

14 days cooling off period would enable him.

This is amazing, thanks OP. Rang up half an hour ago and was told I could leave and with my iPhone, only signed up to a 24month contract in August.

Will probably look to get a bill pay elsewhere and get a new phone. And unlock the old one!

Or sign up to a new bill pay deal with 3?

    1 up for the consumer!

They'll unlock the iPhone why bother getting a bill pay? Just go prepay.

Was just looking at that as well, noticed that their 'fair use' on their unlimited data is 30GB...

still a lot, I wouldn't use that much in a month really.

I believe they don't stick to it, same as 3.

Maybe so, but when I check my Three usage, it tells me that I have 2TB left for the month! That makes it feel properly unlimited anyway :D

Does this apply to 3 business customers?

Could somebody tell me the difference between pre pay and sim only plans. Sorry...

    In my case €30. :pac:

    Your choices are :

    From Three:
    1. Move to prepay (order a new SIM / pick one up in store and do a SIM swap within 30 days)

    2. Move to SIM only (they only have one plan on that now)

    Or, temporarily move to prepay:
Then port out to another network.

You may be able to port out immediately actually, but you will still get billed for your final bill. I wouldn't chance it myself as I'm not sure if that might invalidate the notice as this is an unusual situation.

You also might as well use up whatever includsive minutes and data you have this month as you'll be paying for it either way.

Comreg ruled against Eircom trying to stop people porting out and not giving the 30 days notice over the phone. Imagine same applies here.

Heard on Pat Kenny this morning that even if you signed up to a contract the day before that included a phone then you can get out of it with the phone free gratis because they changed the T&C's.

Funny how a thread that's critical about being fleeced by a company appears to turning into a how can we fleece an expensive smartphone from said company thread. :pac:

    Freud would be interested......

Good, feckers are creamed on this. Bet they regret being first to move on this with their 'innovative' interpretation of the EU Directive.

So is it just Three and Meteor that are changing their terms?

Switched to virgin media for the 5 euro a month thing to try it out, will let you know my experience!

    Pre Pay, you buy credit.

Sim only, you get a bill, you have to give 30 days notice for cancellation.

So Vodafone have gone 28 days as well.

    Narrows it down a bit.

The sim only bill pay is still good value for me. Its going up 41c from what it was and it still has unlimited everything but with a 2GB data cap when I roam. I'm fine with that. I wouldn't use 2GB in 2 months let alone over a holiday period of at most a couple of weeks.

Apologies if the answer to my question is answered in this thread, just so long already.

I just signed up to a new bill pay 24 month contract last Friday. €25.41 a month. Got new phone. Any idea if this plan is going up as part of this announcement?

If so I'm a bit peeved. Was on prepay paying 20 a month. I am a very light user. Decided to pay the extra fiver for convenience. Got sick of topping up all the time. New phone was a bonus.

I am still in the cooling off period. Does that change my situation?

Cooling off period is for online contracts only, there is no cooling off period if you signed up in a store.

So, could I sign up for a new phone tomorrow on 25.41 and then cancel in 14 days?

Just goes to show that if they can afford to lose out on all these contracts and phones that the big money to be made is in the roaming fees.

I don't think you are right. I'm pretty sure the guy in the Three store said it to me!

Any new sign ups have to tick a box to say they know the price is going up and that they are OK with that so no I don't think so.

What do you get for your €5? Looked on the site but didn't see any offer for €5 pm.

No your wrong and the guy in the three store was wrong. There is a laughable 14 Day Money Back Guarantee which has the caveat that its dependant on you not getting a service and three have to verify that first. If you can make a call then your stuck. I've pointed this out countless times in the Talk to three forum

I've also said many times that if the three sales person said you could return the phone within 14 days for any reason and end the contract that you have been miss-sold a contract and should put in a Formal Complaint and follow up with Comreg (search the three talk to forum).
