    Two questions?
Are the sim only plans changing or do 3 let you know if the contract is changing?
Have been with 3 awhile and would love swindle a new phone out of them, any way of getting a new contract today and then being able to cancel again?

Do you need to change the sim to switch to the rolling 30-day contract or did they simply modify on the system?

No, if you get a new contract it will be with the new prices.

No. The reason people are getting out of their contract is because the changes are being made to existing contracts . Your new contract today would be under their new T&C

If the average contract amount was €40 per month they would need to lose 125,000 customers to be under water on this. That doesn't take into account the cost of the HW they are giving up and it assumes everyone leaves 3 completely which is obviously not happening with some people moving to payg.

The amount of people that will actually leave will probably be smaller than you think. People are with Three for a reason: cheap data so walking away from a contract will mean signing up somewhere else.

Plus the length of affected contracts will vary wildly and the amount of people lucky enough to be at the start of a 24 month contract will be small enough.

So most people will probbaly just switch to a cheapoer contract, stay as customers and in all likelihood, sign another bill play contract at the end of the current contract.

While it's a small boon for customers in the short run, I doubt Three would have timed these charge increases if it was going to leave them seriously out of pocket in the long run.

Another happy ex-Classic Flex Max 350 customer, got my HTC 10 on a 2 year contract last July. Girl I got onto was totally sound, told me how most people are picking the "Flex Max SIM Only" plan but the "20 euro pre-pay one is the best value if you don't mind having to top up regularly" :), took less than 10 mins, Thanks OP!

Why go elsewhere? Cancel your 40 quid a month plan, keep the expensive phone, get on the 20 quid a month pre-pay. Simples.

    Just stumbled across this.

I went on contract in August for 24 months, iPhone 6.

What if I leave now, will I get to keep the phone?

And then what if I wanted to sign upto a new contract and get the iPhone 7? Would they see me coming back and tell me to do one dya reckon

Or sell the phone you have now and sign a contract with meteor in the hopes that they're going to do the same thing in about 2 months.

I'm going to call up on my lunch break and see if I can go from my current contract (€40.66 going to €45) to the €25 (going to €30) contract.

    You can. I just did.

For sure. I just meant Three must be playing the calculated risk game with customers staying and Three taking the hit on the phone/cheaper contract vs the price increases and retained long-term custom. Even a lot of people that go to PAYG now might well switch to a bill pay again if a shiny new phone comes out a year or two down the line instead of buying it upfront.

It suited me to switch to a cheaper contract with Three as I was going to get a new phone end of this year, buy it outright and go on a rolling contract with Three anyway so i've saved myself about 250 quid.

Wow looks like even prepay will be affected by this.....top up period is now 28 days (from 3rd April)....as opposed to 30.....bizarre!
It was so handy to just set it to top up once a month before.....not as if you can set it to do it every 28 days.
With that you do get 2GB of data to use in EU though.

The data isn't that cheap if your on flex max with a handset and I find they're often very congested.

I was paying €55+ a month and the handset broke over a year ago.

I'm on my own SIM free iPhone. SIM only on meteor is giving me 30GB which is more than adequate for me and it's a lot faster on average.

What's driving me off 3 is mostly the congestion. Their 4G is often slow and their 3G is often just unusable.. You get the occasional very fast connection on 3 but it's so inconsistent I have just given up.

It's pretty bad when in some cases the had tether my 3 handset to my meteor one to get usable data!

    4mns on hold, 2 minute phones call - €15 a month saved and I'm not on a Sim-only plan.

    Cheers OP!

Thanks OP. You saved me €30 per month, for at least 14 months!

Is there a way we can donate a pint to you?

To others looking into this, they are well used to the process now at the call centre and it's a breeze.

Three I would guess... they're the only ones doing "all you can eat" data

Well the poster also said "free calls to Irish numbers." which is not available on the sim only plan iirc, that's why I asked. Only free three to three calls as far as I'm aware.

According to the Customer Notifications page they are going to change the automated update to accommodate the 28 day period.

I downgraded to the SIM only plan for €30 a month, and was told it's exactly the same as what I was on for €55/month (unlimited data/any network texts/any network calls)

Oh thats not too bad then!
I dont mind 20 euro a month plan (you keep top up - I use 9.99 to pay for deezer), the fact that I can room in UK for free is amazing as well!
So 28 day top up versus 30 isnt a big deal really especially that I can now roam when up home in North.

was on 350 flexi for €40, going up to €45. Now on unlimited for €30 for 30 day rolling contract. got out of last nine months of my contract :D

Cheers OP, my contract was going up to €45. Dropped down to the 30 day rolling contract with unlimited everything and got out of contract 11 months early.

You could always roam up north for free! Infact now it's much worse, as data has a limit of 2gb (was unlimited) and the free weekend calls are now gone!
