Whoever handles their playout system just hasn't pulled the plug on it yet.

May as well keep it going until the transmission providers pull the plug ?

I suppose their carraige deal with Sky has some time to run and when that's up Sky will pull the plug. Or maybe they are trying to sell the lucrative epg slot and are allowed to keep broadcasting until that happens.

The receivers may be keeping it going for the purposes of retaining the EPG slot for a future sale.

Good point about slot on Sky platform. Regardless of 'niche' interest in Irishtv channel, the tv company produced hours of film relative to own productions and utilised other outside production companies. Sure to be some great material especially for future historical purposes. Still bemused with lack of information or feedback from all previous directors regardless of financial scenario. Wondering if the produced broadcast material are assets of the company been realised! Have not heard that assets are for sale by receiver!

Well done Irish Post! A quick and shrewd move after demise of IrishTV? Worth watching progress,

The Irish post themselves came on the verge of closure about 4 years ago.

Even if they got it for a bargain price what are they going to do with it?

  • Registered Users Posts: 15 Clonsk

If the purchase price is solely relative to post production TV material rather than maintaining Sky slot and TV running requirements, they could always use the material on other communication mechanisms such as facebook, youtube, etc... What will be interesting is to see if the Irish Post decide to produce new material for ONLINE purposes or even utilise another existing TV satellite platform for limited time periods. The Irish Post may be able to attain a greater corporate advertisement market especially as the paper is based in the UK.

There are only so many County matters programmes that one can watch.
Six One news, TV3 news, Tonight with Vincent browne, Primetime, fair City, these are the types of shows that expats would like to watch.
Yes they are available for a time on the RTE / TV3 players etc, but it would be good and profitable to have them in satellite tv

Totally agree. Irishtv product was over orientated to local news and county developments. Balance of broadcasting needed improvement. In a new instant communication world, expat diaspora would appreciate getting to know what is happening in Ireland on a daily basis with some entertainment added. food for thought for Irish post!

I hope they rebrand the whole channel and but the funds in to decent content that will attract propper advertising revenue not that cheap unprofessional advertising that shows jimmy down the road selling tractors or combine harvestores.

Should Irish Post venture utilise a Satellite TV platform especially in the UK, it should only do so with a professional advertisement package with more universal appeal to a greater audience. However, there should still be a place for a Small operator to be able to facilitate an opportunity to advertise on a tv platform in some way only if financially practicable and potentially of financial benefit. Most likely that Irish Post version of Irishtv at outset may be more concentrative on ONLINE programming and utilising some material from the defunct Irishtv channel. We will wait and see!

Not sure about TV3 news or Fair City but would RTE/TV3 be willing to flog overseas rights to these programmes for a reasonable sum ?

They had very little in the way of physical assets. All the production teams bought their own equipnment, live programmes/shows were facilitated by OB companies, and a lot of the more recent material still going out has not been paid for.

The reason you're still seeing pictures is that transmission was paid in advance and the term has not yet expired. It's all automated, no 'person' is pressing play.

Interesting point relative to programme material. There were details in media outlets of outside broadcasters not been paid for providing ongoing material on a weekly basis to irishtv. The perceived inference from Irish Post is that they would be utilising material previously shown by Irishtv. No actual breakdown of this advised 'intellectual material' et al. No details on financial payments either. May learn more in coming days.

Last summer they covered a car show here in the village. I was only able to be there for a short while and didn't see everything on display. I hoped it would be shown on Sligo county matters. As far as I know it never aired. With a bit of luck the new owners might resurrect it.

Preceded by a repeat of the All-ireland Masters Football Final Replay with the worst Commentator I've ever heard. It was actually funny! Which was why I kept watching!

Eh? Irish TV (Channel 190 on Sky) :pac:

Play out was done near London by a company called Arqiva. They run 350 channels from one room so it doesn't cost anything to play out this channel. I got to visit it before Christmas and it's very impressive. All they need is 4 people 24/7 to run the channels. They also provide all playout, Fibre and Uplink so it's them who is keeping it alive. As it doesn't cost them much to run, the way they look at it is that if they keep it on air they might find a buyer who will pay the bill.
