One of the best steaks I've ever had in my life was in Matt the Thresher's down in Tipp. But there are plenty of pubs in Dublin where you can get perfectly serviceable food.

There's a Matt the Thresher in Dublin too. No idea if it's the same people or just the same name.

The Ballina half of my household have told me David Clarke dropped for today. Incredibly harsh.

It's a seafood place afaik, never been in it. You'd have to assume it's the same people? I think the Obamas ate in it when they were in Dublin. I feel embarrassed that I know that.

Just looking at their website, seems to be mostly fish and it looks like it's a full on restaurant rather than a pub that does food. There is a photo gallery of Michelle Obama's visit too :D

Leinster is a 12 county province and I am incredibly insulted that you would assume my county of origin

You just wish you were a Dub.

    Understood.

While I did spend the first few years of my life in a small house out in The Ward I was luckily moved away and cured before it had any lasting impact.

You just struck me as a Dub. You have the air of a Dub about you.

Ah cmon that's a bit silly, there's plenty of places around now that mix both, or where you can get a decent meal or also just get a drink if you want. It's unlikely the food is going to match a decent restaurant but it can still be fine.
I'm more talking about the vibe of a pub that also does food - not the quality of the fare. I find it makes for a disjointed atmosphere when waiters and kids are running about the place.

Fine place to get a drink, went on a date there a few weeks ago.

Lads all this talk of food, bars and football and we almost let this little nugget get away from us.

    How did the date go?

Leave out no detail, however small or insignificant.

It's alright. The food is good quality, but it is overpriced a tad (to be expected given the location). If you're ok with the price... then it's a nice place to eat.

Dublin looking a completely different team today.

Someone's going to need to explain to me the refs decision there. Mayo man trips the Dub and then goes after him as soon as he gets up yet both get yellows?

The Dubs are all bastards and should all be sent off

I don't think Vaughan tripped Connolly deliberately there. Someone else caught him and he caught Connolly as he fell. As much as I dislike Connolly I don't think there was anything in that at all. To give them both the same as the other Dublin lad who was all over the Mayo lad on the ground was ridiculous.

Don't think Keegan should have had that black either.

BOD on twitter suggesting the GAA should introduce the sin bin instead of the black card. I think it's a good idea.

Horrible, turgid and disappointing are the words that come to mind when describing this All Ireland final.
If the referee had a pair of balls this would be 12v12 .

Jaysus, the ref must have had odds somewhere on extra time.

Connolly bumped the Mayo led with his shoulder which made him fall and then the Mayo lad tripped him in retaliation.

Unfortunately frees are so valuable in the sport that cynical play is becoming more and more prevalent to the point where victory is impossible without mastering it

Great for Dublin though, should put the Dublin family in a good mood for a bit which always makes my life easier!

Mayo and Clermont fans need to set up a joint sports fan counselling group.

Looked like it was the other Dublin player knocked the Mayo player who accidentally tangled with Connolly on the way down. Either way.... there was nothing in it and neither deserved a card, in my opinion.

To me the Mayo man came in to obstruct and then flicked the leg out after for the trip. I wouldn't be a GAA fan really and when I do find myself watching games I often find myself scratching my head when it comes to frees and foul play.

We tried it already over 10 years ago when the game had less dragging and pulling. It didn't work, it was quickly scrapped.

The goalkeeper selection is going to be second guessed to death. I feel awful for Hennelly.
