I think they will improve that aspect without a doubt . They are a very progressive group and they clearly are driven to make it one of the very best marathons on the circuit . There are still some issues with the public and the closure of roads, and bus routes , but they are getting there with the large majority of the capital.

Noticed that some results in the Independent just had the runners number listed (with the finishing time) and no name. Why so. Disqualified?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,921 ✭✭✭Bananaleaf

do you not have to submit the results of a previous run to secure entry into a particular pen? I know this can be still be faked but is it a requirement or do people get to choose which wave they go into without any proof that they are able for it?

  • Registered Users Posts: 15,704 ✭✭✭✭RayCun

There is no proof of ability required for any of the waves.

Nooooooooo, it would be a nightmare for me:) I think wave 1 is ok as it is, it's not overcrowded. The way the entry unfolded this year is what caused this issue for the few faster runners. I much prefer the way it is now than having a qualifying time. Elite to 3:40 is such a big time gap that will contain a huge number of first time runners or people that have not run a marathon in a long time but are still fit that you would probably end up with more people outside of the wave 1 pen that should be in it than you had this year. I think the system is perfect as it is and this was just a one off.

Well I think that is crazy. I remember about 5 or 6yrs ago I ran the Mini Marathon which as we know is only 10k and I had to provide proof that I was subwhatever time it was (60mins I think :pac:) For a 10k.

I suppose you would expect that people running a marathon would be, in the majority, pretty sensible about the wave they choose for themselves though.

What way did the tracker work this year for the marathon, apparently you could track a runner all around a map of the course this year is that correct, was there some technology in the chip/number that allowed this to happen?

No, between checkpoints, the tracker was only showing you move at predicted pace, not your actual pace.

Ah right, thought so, the way it was being described to me it was like you could be pinpointed all the way around the course live.

Not sure, but there's definitely at least one named who should be disqualified.

That is correct yes. People could elect people to follow and then they could click "map" and the various people are shown on the map as to their whereabouts.

Did that Sunday! The little switch inside I broken.

Did a little bit of surgery on mine today - see below.
Seems the little switch (highlighted in red) bent way from the button.
When I tried to straighten it, it broke off.
Might try soldering it back on later.
    I have another light anyway.

In fairness - if they didn't do that for the Women's Mini Marathon it would be even more chaotic, even more walkers up the front.

Fair enough, I had forgotten that a lot of people walk it. You wouldn't (shouldn't) have walkers in the DCM so I guess that it is less of a problem. Yet walker/jogger - if there are a lot of them in the way it's still an issue.

That's because we didn't pass you. We started at the beginning of Wave 2 at 9:10am, meaning even though you ran 3:47 we were still behind you.

Yaboya you will be pleased to know you even managed to pace me over the line. I was in second wave going for 3.30. All good to 22 miles then the wheels came off. Somewhere amid the next few miles of morasse and stop starts I heard a little boy saying "look daddy, balloons", I turned around to see 3.40 balloons approaching (presumably you?). I hadn't cared about anything for previous 10 mins except it all ending but at the sight of that I was like, OK, this is NOT happening and lashed off my fastest mile of the race to get in!

    Great job!

Was interesting as I put the bonk down to food, only had 60g of carbs full race but the resurrection without additional food means its a bit more complicated than that.

30 minutes before the start, while I was warming up on Baggott Street, my stomach started rumbling like the chariot race in Ben Hur. Amazingly, there were portaloos on Baggott Street with no queues outside, so I thought I was very lucky to get my stomach trouble out of the way before the race. But in the start area I felt totally wiped out and despite an easy start I couldn't cool down. At mile 14 I started going backwards, so I decided to go easy for the rest of the race. I actually enjoyed the second half of the marathon! Anyway, turns out I had gastroenteritis, so I think I did alright.

The move of the marathon to Sunday did not go down well everywhere:

'Priests have been sharply critical of the decision to move the Dublin city marathon to a Sunday, meaning many parishioners were unable to attend Mass due to road closures in the capital.

    ...

He said that parishioners have been coming to Mass, unimpeded, at St Joseph’s Church for over 100 years. “The British couldn’t stop people coming to Mass but the marathon organisers managed it,” Fr Bradley said.'

I'm sure God will forgive them for missing a week. (Church missed out on the collection though which is probably unforgivable in their eyes)

If it's one thing that's worse than the British it's the Irish and British and possibly other nationalities out running....sub human scum!

So were the doors actually blockaded by the marathon, or was it just a slight inconvenience re buses and driving? Has he ever heard of having an evening mass? Just shows how far removed from reality these guys STILL are (apologies for the mini rant)

Photo selections are pretty bad alright.
Had a look at my own, and a few of my friends. They managed to get a lot more of me than most of my friends, except nearly all of mine are almost identical photos of me crossing the line.
