I have lots of ideas/excuses but can't pinpoint anything specifically.. More likely a combination of factors lead to this result.
On a positive note it's given me more focus now :)

How do we know you didn't just hang around the finish line until the clock read the right time? ;)

In any case I got my prediction exactly correct!

Well done dna_leri. A really impressive debut.

Somebody posted on Twitter, so it could be bollox, that she does her training on a treadmill, and judging by how he wrote it I assume he meant that's how she does all her training.

Why did you put the quotes around her name by the way? :D
    joesoap5 wrote: »
I wouldn't be surprised at all, its probably the only way can train if she has a family to look after.

Sure didn't 'Ingrid Kristiansen' do most of her training on a treadmill?

I used the quotes because she's special :pac:

How useful is treadmill training? At least during the winter months. It's too dark for me to go out by the time I'm home from work and going out in the rain just isnt possible for me as I get really sick. Did a 10k on 23rd of this month, only drizzled during it and I am just about over a cold now. I eat very well, take lots of vitamins and am in good general health - just a weak immune system.

If I'm looking to do the equivalent of, say, my 10k on the road should I be really trying for a further distance on the treadmill to make it that bit more challenging or should I maybe add inclines a bit during the 'run'?

If this is irrelevant here (which I suspect it probably is) please let me know and I'll go to the right place.

Set the incline to 1.5 for the duration of the run and try not to fart.

If it gets you doing the training then its very useful.
Most advice sites will tell you to set the incline to 1 to emulate the same conditions as outside.

There's loads of sites that give you little plans for treadmill running so you can mix it up and make it interesting with intervals, progression runs, pyramids, hill runs etc.

Here's a link to paces for treadmill running: <<http://www.tricalc3.com/charts/treadmill-cheatsheet.pdf>>

If it is a diagnosed weak immune system I personally would get professional advise before taking on a marathon(if that is your intention).
If however you are just susceptible to picking up colds ect, then I would advise wearing plenty of layers for your longer/easy runs.
Plus, more importantly, get into a hot shower straight after, don't hang around chatting in sweaty gear, and continue with your vitamin supplements.

A treadmill can be a useful addition to your training when "life" comes in the way, but you still need to harden up a bit to the conditions you'll be running on, ie the road.

Good luck with it, keep us posted :)

I find it quite useful, particularly with days like you say where it's just not quite great outside, as well as the issue of safety.

Personally I find it easier to run faster times outdoors than on the treadmill. There is a tendency to run with a slightly less than ideal posture (restricted hips) on the treadmill, as well as it generally being a lot warmer in there than outside. If you're training indoors on a sunny day it's magnified even more. So with that in mind it'll train you hard.

I'd leave the long runs to outdoors if possible though.

Nah, it's not a diagnosed weak immune system, it's just as you say, I need to harden up a little. And I will do over time. My aim will be a half marathon for now and we will see how I get on from there. Thanks for the advice

Yes, good idea, thank you. I will try to do the long runs outside - I think I would get too bored doing them in a gym.

When I look back on the whole thing I have some mixed emotions about it, I fully believe anyone who has any sort of fitness can do this. My training for this was abysmal not through any fault of my own with injuries and other life stuff. This my 4 attempt at the distance although I didn't get a PB I enjoyed it, but like it was said earlier it refreshed my respect for the distance and you then realise anyone can jog/walk 26.2 miles but actually to do yourself justice you need to train probably not just running but diet and even learning how to keep yourself going during the race. I'm already planning for next year once I get back walking properly and barring injury of course intend to do it properly there is no doubt in my mind there is a sub 4 in there I think another poster Clearier once posted going on my history there is a sub3:30 in there so sub 4 will do me and roll on 2017 well done to everyone who finished

I think I started out too slow, afraid to have to walk... again.
    10K 46:30 07:29 mile
    HALF 01:35:40 07:08 mile
    30K 02:15:04 07:08 mile
    Finish 03:09:05 07:08 mile

    Thanks

    Can somebody add me please?

Should we create a new thread for the cheaters?

A few with the 2 hour half and 1.10 second half. You can see walking off the course at halfway

I have lots of ideas/excuses but can't pinpoint anything specifically.. More likely a combination of factors lead to this result.
On a positive note it's given me more focus now :)

Our Strava files could nearly be copies.... :(

This was my second time running the Dublin marathon (or any marathon to be honest).
I just want to congratulate everyone who played a part in the organization, were outside cheering, and those who took part.

It was a fantastic day. Everything for me ran really smoothly. The crowd were unbelievable.
And for everyone who took part, well done. A marathon is really a race no one should be doing :)

I really struggled through the last 3k, but the other runners, and the crowd helped me get through.

Finished in 3:52, and I had nothing left in the tank at that stage. Thought I might faint afterwards. Once I got my t-shirt and medal, I sat down, and it took me about 10 minutes before I could stand up again.
The volunteers really helped me through this stage too. Their enthusiasm and happy faces are really worth acknowledging.

One teeny tiny fault I can think of, was the first water station. It came out of nowhere (or so I thought), and it caused a lot of runners to suddenly veer across the road. Surprised there wasn't a few fallers around there

But back to a positive note. Well done to absolutely everyone

How do we know you didn't just hang around the finish line until the clock read the right time? ;)

I did but forgot that the clock time was a few secs out from chip time :D

Does anyone know whether/where official marathon merchandise can be bought online? I'm a little superstitious about tempting fate and rarely buy stuff before a marathon, but I ran well enough on Sunday to justify some memento other than the finisher's tee shirt. Thanks.

They were selling the 2015 stuff at knock down prices at the expo this year ;)

As seemed likely for several days leading up to the marathon I didn't toe the starting line. I had hoped for a last minute miracle but when I woke up on Sunday morning it wasn't a difficult decision even if it was disappointing.

It was great to put a few faces to the names here. I had only met 3 boardsies in person before Sunday and I might have blanked Krusty because I'm absolutely atrocious with faces - someone said hello to me in McGrattan's and I had no idea who they were - if I did, apologies Krusty! I did recognise Myles. He looked a bit older than what I remembered but I suppose that he had just run a marathon in a pretty impressive time :). Dubgal had me completely flummoxed - it was only that no other woman who was with boardsies could possibly have known my name that gave it away! I know that there were people at a couple of tables around the back but sorry, I couldn't work out which table it was. I guess I'll just have to come back again next year!

Congratulations to all those who succeeded, commiserations to those who didn't - let's come back next year to set that right.

wow, just wow. My first marathon and I am so glad I chose to do it in my native land. The people of Dublin are amazing. the support was phenomenal, along with the organsiation. Coming into Castleknock. I could barely hear myself think, and tore up that bit of a hill without thinking about it, Chaplelizod going around the corner back towards the city was spine-tingling. Was going well until 22 miles when it went pairshaped and had nothing left, jogged the rest of the way and managed a big effort for the last mile. I was lucky enough to get in London next year, so now I know what a marathon takes. Cant wait to come back next year and give Dublin a real crack and do myself justice. I have done all the big half marathons in England including the GNR but this is by far the best event I ever took part in

Should we create a new thread for the cheaters?

A few with the 2 hour half and 1.10 second half. You can see walking off the course at halfway

Seriously? Why the feckin hell would anyone do that? What satisfaction would they get from it?

I don't doubt you by the way...just makes no sense!

Would it be for qualifying times for other big marathons?

Ah yes..that would at least have some logic to it!

I'm a bit late to the party but I just want to thank you all for being part of what was a truly special day. I'm still getting teary-eyed thinking about it. Spine-tingling. Can't wait for next year!
