The Aldi in Santry/Ballymun has about eight bottles of the Boyles on the shelf at the mo for anyone who's looking.

Eventually got a couple of bottles of Boyles. Not bad. I think I prefer Brockmans. Will drink anyway

Are stocks of Boyles reliable now? Went through a bottle in a couple of weeks, so looking to restock for Xmas. It's very nice.

What are folks opinions of the Tesco Finest gins? I see them on offer for €20 at the moment. Either worth a punt?

Yes. I can't believe how expensive they have become. Used to be around £15 but they are worth it.

I'm pretty sure that these gins were never €15.
I'm not sure any gin is €15!

€20 is extremely cheap for a London Dry Gin. That even cheaper than Cork Dry Gin which is just flavourings added to alcohol. A London Dry Gin or a Distilled gin is alcohol, redistilled with real botanicas.

Right now, some places are selling Gordons for €15; and both Lidl and Aldi's own brand gins (which are, to be honest, not bad) are under €15.

All of those are London Dry, assuming you were excluding compound gins from the equation.

Yes, and it's extremely cheap for a LDG.
Pretty sure those Tesco "premium" gins were never that cheap.

I'm not much of a gin drinker but the wife is and loves the Boyle's Gin. Rates it over the Gunpowder.

Noticed a new Irish gin in Lidl called Rabbit Island Gin. €24.99 just like Boyle's. Anyone know anything about it? Suspect it is made by West Cork Distillers.

    Not tried it yet.

    What's it best served with?

Slice of pink grapefruit or lemon is nice and your favourite tonic.

Just while on the subject, is there any value to the idea that you should only use a slice of peel in your G&T rather than an entire slice of fruit, or is that simply a preference, or a different recipe?

Might be a martini you're thinking of.

I think it's entirely down to preference.

I love lime, so if I put lime in a g&t, I like to squeeze the juice in. But that's just me.

I don't believe in there being any one correct way to drink anything.

Has anyone here come across Nordés Galician gin?

I recently had a taste of it and it was really unusual and gorgeous - would love to get my hands on a bottle.

Google has been no good to me, and O'Brien's say they've tried it and ordered it but it won't be in till January.

Anyone come across it in Dublin?

Hmmm, €44 plus over €12 delivery..... I think I'll wait for O'Brien's to get it in!

Was really wondering if anyone had seen it stocked in a shop.

    Thanks all the same.

    Thanks for that.

So for their Shepherd's Purse, they copied the Blackwater bottle (same bottle, just the 70cl version) and for their Aldi gin they went for a squat, blue bottle rather like Gunpowder's.

    Hmmmm.

In person and from a distance it looks exactly like Gunpowder. Can't say I'm a fan of it though, sampled some at a party the other night and to me it was quite sharp.
