Gonna go out on a limb here and guess it was sarcasm.

    Correct.

Was this not common knowledge by now? I thought it was, along with the ticket money incident.

The first thing Kavanagh says about the incident: "it sounds worse than it was". It will definitely get blown out of all proporation however.

I'll give it a week on here before the story changes to Conor running at her from behind and striking her in the back of the head before he asks the Kinahan's to take her hostage to frighten her.
What is the ticket money incident?

Re: Mcgregor announcement, my own speculation:

    1. Ireland PPV
    2. Mayweather fight
    3. Career break & Mayweather fight
    4. Career break / Retirement & Mayweather fight

He won't lose so I doubt you have to contemplate that tbh.

It seems pretty certain the missus is pregnant and he is going to take a break from the constant training, travelling and media commitments for a period. Will do him no harm whatsoever to step away for a while, he has been non stop for a long time now, has to take its toll.

How does being a 2 belt holder and taking an official year out work? if indeed it is that

It doesn't and shouldn't work. He should be stripped of the FW belt at least.

Conor walks into a MMA gym for the first time. And wants to jump in with their best guy. That's hardly surprising. He did exactly the same thing when he walked into 10th Planet.
Ais being hit with a body shot and dropped. Thats unfortunate, but it happens. Playing it up as it was with malicious intent is odd.

Knocking an over zealous new guy down a legis something that has probably happened in every MMA/BJJ gym.

Just read the interview in the Sindo with John Kavanagh. Seems like an interesting guy. Must be the first time i've seen reference to Joseph Campbell's Hero with a thousand faces or archetypes (from Jungian psychology) in the Sports pages.

    Brilliant stuff.

What is the ticket money incident?

Back in the day Conor had to sell a load of tickets and give Kavanagh the money. He sold them all and blew the money on drink and bets AFAIK. And then stopped training as he didn't have the money. Eventually Kavanagh went to his gaf and said forget the money you're either all-in or good luck....and Conor showed up on the monday and rest is history.

    Rough version.

Conor won't be able to dish out a soccer kick if he cracks him with a left :pac:

Eddie Alvarez chin. 2 things we know for certain - he gets hit a lot. And when he gets hit clean, his legs buckle. The other thing we know for sure is he has tremendous heart, not too dis-similar to Nate Diaz. He can get dropped and get up and keep fighting.

The question is can he take Conors power and accuracy? I don't think so. The most interesting fight in the following list is the Cerrone fight. Alvarez striking was so poor in that fight, head down wildly swinging. And what's more, by the 2nd and 3rd rounds Cerrone didn't respect his power and walked straight through Alvarez best shots. Proceeded to drop Eddie with some powerful knees and wrecking his lead leg with kicks.

I haven't included the Loughran fight (the last Irishman to buckle Eddies legs!) as i can't find it at the moment. Shinya Aoki also buckled his legs.

Dropped by Amade with a right hook at 2:23

Kawajiri drops him short left hook at 5:18 and an uppercut/left hook combo at 7:23 (which may resemble a slip).

Chandler drops him twice with short right hooks at 0:13 and 0:20

Gil Melendez buckles him with an elbow at 0:27

The FW belt is stripped for sure, the LW belt probably has a time limit attached, as in if he does not sign to take a fight by x date then that goes too. Probably creating an interim belt in the mean time to sort out who his return will be against and buy them time.

If Aldo refuses to fight Holloway he should be stripped straight away and make Holloway v Edgar for the 145 belt, after he jabs the head off stephens.

All the while Conor keeps the FW belt?

No,its getting taken soon as he beats Alvarez, even if he loses I hope he gives it up so Holloway can reign over the fw division.

Gotcha. If Conor drops the belt then I'd imagine Aldo won't be refusing to fight anyone. He'd just be fighting for the official title.

How long do they let him drag his heels with this retirement talk? I'd love to see him fight Holloway for the title one of my dream fights in the ufc although I fear Pettis will get a shot because he has a bigger name.

The retirement talk is just posturing I'd say. If Aldo is smart he won't be committing to any fight until after 205. Would love to see him fight Holloway though.

Good piece - I've thought in the past that Kavanagh can present himself a little oddly on social media, but when quoted in context as here he comes across much better: thoughtful, reserved, not a d&*^-head :)
Liked how he intimates that his role is to guide his athletes, not create or search for talent but to uncover and polish the raw material already there

Cheers. It's a great interview. I loved this line:

"Oh! You're that guy. You just have a different face."

I do that all the time.

Should read his book, lot of that interview is taken from it.
