If Conor had two knives, would he relinquish one, be the biggest star in Ireland or would he still run from Edgar?

If he didn't send it he sure does have a case for his good name being besmirched in public.

I'd be more concerned if one of the knives was in hot coffee.

is it black coffee though or a latte? and when was it ordered?

What's he doing drinking lattes and playing with knives this close to a fight anyway?

Im surprised he hasnt gone back to his roots, he had his biggest and quickest win when he was grinding away in nightclubs, I would have liked him to get a few in this camp.

Apparently both...dee got a latte but couldn't drink it because she is pregnant. Conor doesn't like giving up things so took both.

right so. mods change the title of this thread and from now on we'll only use it to discuss international politics!

Time to stop listening to Alex Jones.

We're a long, long way from WWIII.

    Can't please everyone :pac:

If people talk about Mayweather, Dee Devlin being preggo/not preggo, Conor getting married/cheating on Dee, it's "jaysus what sh1te am i after reading!!".

If they talk about Conor using his movement, counter-punching and precision to deck Eddie, it's "jaysus President of the Conor fanclub are ye!!".

If they talk about Eddie using his wrestling, dirty boxing and clinch to ragdoll him it's "jaysus you're a pure hater".

It's a slow-news week! There's no UFC last weekend or this weekend.

The thread should, by rights, descend into "Conor v clowns", "conor at Louis Copeland", "Mousasi v Conor", "dillon danis spotted with conor at Yammamori", "conor executes a Granby roll but gets leg stuck".......

It's the Conor McGregor thread for a reason lol.

Ah here what you're suggesting is totally off the scale and pretty obvious to any Sane person that that behaviour isn't on.

But a few words in the heat of the moment on twitter isn't a crime.

We have all said stupid things, every one of us.

    But murdering someone we haven't.

Of course its obvious to any sane person that behaviour isn't on but you made this one line post

That's all I responded to, and clarified that a twitter spat is hardly going to cause anyone to be turned off a guy, but that it is not ridiculous to care what people say or do outside of the sport in general.

I doubt we are too far apart on this tbh

Aren't you the guy who bought a Conor McGregor training kit?

Just finished Kavanagh's book. Was a brief read and not too many interesting anecdotes or stories - I thought he would have loads. Don't think it is worth 20 euro.

Kavanagh's background is interesting and fair play to him for persevering when things looked bleak.

Not many interesting McGregor stories that haven't already been repeated...

Says the 10 week training camp was too long and that a bit of cabin fever was setting in at times - which is no surprise. Says Conor's irregular training hours caused friction within the house.

One interesting story was that McGregor takes note on anyone who speaks negatively against him or his team mates - McGregor recorded a message for one of the SBG lads friends wedding but McGregor stopped the video from being played after he found out that the fella getting married had given Pendred hassle over Twitter.

I am abit unclear about SBG though. Is it a franchise where Kav has to pay Thornton a fee for using the SBG name or what is the story?

think we need a John Kavanagh thread at this stage seeing as how lads are so interested in him!

Kavanagh and McGregor go hand in hand - Kavanagh spends majority of book mentioning or talking about him.

Apologies if it offended your tastes!

I'd heard otherwise. I have the book there but I'm waiting until I'm off work for a few days and will enjoy reading it over tae rather than trying to not fall asleep in bed after a long day

Look, i love Conor. I'd be the first to admit it and my post history speaks for itself. I like the way he fights and he's good entertainment value. I've mentioned a few times i do see his mam a bit and have a chat whenever we cross paths and she's pure salt of the earth dead sound.

However, there's a lot about Conor and Kavanagh i really don't like.

Kavanagh has this thing on Facebook where he posts "mental message of the week". Where he mocks someone publicly for sending him a Private Message. A lot of the people he mocks is bang out of order.

There was this one fan, an Irish lad in America, who would message John lots of praise. Over the space of a year he'd congratulate John whenever Conor won a fight. He got no responses.

Eventually Kavanagh smartly replies "are you interested in sponsoring one of my fighters". To which the fella loses the plot saying he has some cheek with the millions they have to be looking for a lousy few bob off him.

He's also publicly shamed journalists for enquiries, he's shamed former friends etc.

I just think that sort of behaviour is bullying. So what if someone rambles on? Facebook have privacy settings for a reason. If he doesn't want a random fan waffling the ears off him via message, then change his settings so only friends can message him. Or just ignore!! I don't see the spirit of martial arts (respect) in publicly shaming and humiliating some fella for no reason. And being real, one of these days he's gonna humiliate the wrong fella. Plenty of weirdos out there, he'll pick the wrong one and end up with a brick through the windscreen of his Merc.

It's such a mixed bag from both Conor and Kavanagh. They can be charming, engaging and great craic but they also act like pure entitled bullies at times. And they (both) get such an easy ride off the media.

Perhaps the media knows if you write anything negative about either of them that's how they react.

I find some of Kavanagh's social media posts a bit petty at times myself but look, he's a martial arts coach running a business if that's who he is then so be it.
But I remember the posts you've mentioned above regarding the guy who he talked to about sponsorship and you've misrepresented it.
The guy had been messaging Kavanagh every few months before and after McGregor fights to which Kavanagh hadn't responded. Then in one message he mentioned that he sponsored some young fighters, at that point Kavanagh replied and asked if he'd be interested in sponsoring some young SBG guys, the guy immediately completely lost the plot and started cursing him out of it and saying some really out of line stuff. I'd have no sympathy for someone like that being called out online! Same with the journalist, he was being a typical asshole journo looking to make a headline and pretending that he had inside info and was giving Kavanagh an opportunity to comment.

As for saying whoever said he's not fit to teach Jiu Jitsu to kids because of his social media posts, the man is Ireland's first Jiu Jitsu black belt and has devoted years of his life to the sport. That's who I want teaching my kid I don't care if he makes fun of a few crazies on Facebook!

Just a couple of other interesting things I remembered from the book. Artem and Conor used to spar very hard. Artem chipped or hurt Conor's jaw very badly during one such session.

Likewise after McGregor hurt his knee against Holloway he went for scans. Dana White went on television to announce the results of these scans...Conor wasn't informed and found out from watching the tele. That is bizarre

It's an affiliation more so than a franchise. Pretty common in Jiu Jitsu. But I've not idea what way it works In terms of cost.

Yeah, i mean.... the walk-out hoody is actually good quality! I don't exactly traipse around in public in a UFC walkout hoody but it's comfy for lounging around the house in.

I'm told i'm the President of the Conor fanclub yet i criticise both him and Kavanagh when i think it's warranted.

I like to think i'm fairly obviously a huge fan but i'll call him out on something if i see it that way.

Plus, I'm at least attempting to drive and create some discussion. Across the whole forum. It can get pretty quiet in here outside of Fight Week :)

Consider this from the point of view of a fan.

This guy was messaging Kavanagh every few months saying really nice things. Some of it was just waffle but it was all positive waffle. "well done!!" on the Aldo win. "Amazing stuff" on the Mendes win. "Keep up the good work!".

It was that vibe of stuff. All of which was ignored.

He then mentions he sponsored a couple of local fighters in the States one time and after around 20 positive messages without a reply over a year, Kavanagh smartly replies to the effect: "oh yeah? are you interested in sponsoring any more?"

The guy then lost the plot.

Not once did Kavanagh say "cheers man" to all the nice, positive messages. Nor did he ever say "jaysus get a life and stop texting me waffle".

The first reply to this fan was effectively asking for money to sponsor his fighters.

From a fans perspective, that's terribly disappointing. From his eyes, he was messaging support and positivity for a year and the only reply he gets was when the millionaire seeks money to sponsor his fighters.

Even still, all things being equal, what was there to gain in publicly posting the screenshot? Showing 100,000 people that this guy has nothing better to do than message Kavanagh every few months without a reply? Humiliate him in public?

    For what?

The reason that behaviour annoys me is because i suffer from bad depression and insomnia. I know how it feels to seek attention. I know that even a Retweet or a Like from an athlete or celebrity can make you feel a tiny bit less insignificant in your life.

I know that's very deep and i'll probably be mocked for it but there are a lot of people out there who are isolated, lonely, depressed, feel worthless and hopeless. I know how even tiny, tiny things can make a huge difference to someones mental state.

To be mocked and publicly humiliated for, frankly, Kavanaghs personal amusement feels wrong to me. There are plenty, and i mean plenty, of people out there who commit suicide from feelings of humiliation.

All of this might be all terribly dramatic to a lot of you. Mountain out of a molehill. Grow a thicker skin. Get a grip. etc. And i respect your right to feel that way.

All i am saying is i don't agree with what he does with that "mental message of the week" segment on Facebook. I think it's petty, childish and bullying. If people were texting him crude stuff like "i'd bend your missus over and destroy her up the jacksie".... then perhaps i'd have some sympathy for him doing it....but even then there's a Block and Report feature on Facebook for a reason.

I don't like seeing people having to close down their facebook or Twitter because a famous person publicly belittled them for sh1ts n giggles. Social media, to a lot of people, is the only real interaction they get in their lives.

As for the jiujitsu teaching, Kavanagh and Ryan are absolute pioneers in this country and i commend them both for all they've done to promote the sport and the results in the IMMAF speak for themselves. Ireland did great. So that long, hard road has paid off.

I just wouldn't want to teach kids the message that it's ok to humiliate others.

I'd like to teach them to take the high road. If they are harassed on social media - mute them, block them and report them. If it escalates to something more sinister like stalking then go to the Guards.

I wouldn't want to teach them that it's ok to take the p1ss out of people for your own amusement.

Anyway, TL;DR - I just identify with a lot of the people he humiliates. Most of them are harmless looking for attention. Kavanagh has no obligation to give them one second of his attention and that should extend to not humiliating them.
