Ticket prices are already available for UFC 205.

The top price bracket is $1,250+. Other brackets include $700 and $600.

    In short, Conor is headlining.

He's the only person who can sell-out a 20,000 arena at those price points.

That's on top of the fact that certain journalists have seen the Tickets on Sale Posters and another journalist has said that MSG security have been informed that Conor will be in attendance tuesday.

For a non-McGregor presser, the first in NY, you might get 200-500 showing up. With Conor it might be a very large crowd.

Everything points to Conor headlining v Eddie.

The public statements Dana is making are LIKELY for one of the following reasons:

    1. Drive Eddies $$$ demands down.
    2. Keep Jose Aldo on-side.
    3. To actually have a surprise for Tuesday as opposed to Helwani breaking the news again.

    Conor will headline the event.

Lol nope. This is the first ever card at Madison Square Garden, it sells itself.

PPV wise they'll struggle a bit without him though. For the tickets, they can charge what they want and won't have any problems selling it out. You have to take into account that NYC isn't Vegas. Vegas locals would be quite rare at UFC events I'd imagine, but for a New York card you'll have locals and people travelling from all over vying for tickets.

It'll sell out, Conor or not.

They will not get even close to selling out at those price points without Conor.

    Not close.

    Delusional to say otherwise.

New Jersey shows struggle to sell out at the very lowest price points and it's down the road. If so many locals were interested they'd go to those shows.

MSG would only sell-out at medium price points.

Vegas doesn't have many locals going to it but what it did have going for it before the move to the T-Mobile is massive casinos bulk buying tickets for their premium hotel guests.

NY doesn't have those casinos to bulk-buy 50 or 100 tickets priced over $1,250.

People need to remember MSG is historic but the venue itself is going to resemble any other UFC venue. That's one of the things the UFC does really well. The Octagon and seat layout is uniform.

Anyway agree to disagree but i guarantee the upper price points mean Conor is headlining.

No, there's a difference between the part in bold and calling someone "delusional" for not agreeing with you. There's a good chance Conor will be on the card anyway so we'll never know either way if it would sell out or not, but I'm still very confident it would even at those prices.

Lots of people already have their flights booked, they did so because the date for the event was announced well in advance and people had time to make plans for it. Sure there's even a few on this site who've booked it already. That's one crowd of people who are guaranteed to buy tickets whoever main events the card.

Then you have the local New York MMA fans, some of whom will have travelled the short distance to New Jersey for previous events but never for anything this big, every one of them will want a seat at MSG for this.

Then you have the casual crowd, UFC is pretty good at marketing and they should draw in a thousand at least (guesstimate) from that market even at the high price points, mainly because of the massive population and the amount of big shots living in NYC.

This is all without even mentioning the historic significance of the event, many will want to say they've been at the first ever major MMA event in New York. Also, if Conor isn't on the card they'll sure as hell find someone else that can put asses in seats, the card won't collapse if he's not on it.

But you say it "will not even get close to selling out" despite all that. And you call me delusional. :pac:

I wasn't calling you delusional! I'm saying the idea that MSG sells-out with the upper price range $700, $1,250 and upwards, is a fanciful idea.

"Casual fans" won't be paying $1,250+ for a ticket. They won't even be paying $700 for a ticket.

The UFC does a good job of attracting casual fans to new markets, you're right - but usually with a pricing strategy.

The cheapest seats in Cleveland for Stipe v Reem were like $60 and the expensive seats were in the mid hundreds.

That's one way of getting new fans in the door. Packing out an arena with 18,900 people for a gate of $2.6 million.

They did the same with Dublin (the first time), Stockholm and elsewhere.

You just can't attract a "casual fan" with McGregor price tickets.

Even for the hardcore fans some of those tickets are just too much, especially given a lot of the hardcore fans would have made the trips to UFC 200 and 202.

Those price-points are 100% McGregor headlining. If, for whatever reason, he doesn't headline they will drop the prices for all seats immediately.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,924 ✭✭✭wonderfullife

Ps. 2016 should have shown you there is nobody else other than McGregor and Rousey who can "put asses on seats" at the TOP price-range.

Even McGregor-Diaz 2 couldn't sell out at those prices.

If Wonderboy-Woodley headlines (which is unthinkable) then they will totally re-adjust the pricing and you'll see a far more affordable event.

Wonderfullife, I just think you're underestimating the amount of money and the spending power of New Yorkers. It's a much more expensive city to live in than Cleveland and it's the first proper MMA event in the city, one people have been waiting years for.

You say they'll readjust pricing if McGregor isn't on the card, but they didn't do that for UFC 200 so why would they start now? Btw I don't think for a second Woodley and Wondeboy are headlining. I'm expecting a bigger fight to be announced but it remains to be seen what this is. It will probably involve McGregor anyway so this will end up being a pointless debate. I do think the event sells out without him though, taking everything into consideration including your own points.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,924 ✭✭✭wonderfullife

They re-adjusted prices for UFC 202, which still didn't sell-out.

Your point is that New Yorkers will pay exorbitant prices purely for the historic element of the UFC coming to town - regardless of who they put on the card.

That's your point in a nutshell. That the UFC could put any 5 fights at the top of the card and people will still buy the premium seats $1,250 and upwards.

    I fundamentally disagree.

Attendances and Gates in New Jersey have been poor.

Take the Johnson v Bader card as prime example. January this year. 10,550 attendance for a gate of $880,000.

That card was a Fight Night Card but really the top 2 fights were pretty decent on paper - Johnson v Bader and Rothwell v Barnett.

On paper they aren't a million miles worse fights than Cowboy v Gastelum and Woodley v Wonderboy.

If New York is really this hotbed for MMA that attracts "casual fans" surely an event like this would have sold-out? The fact the Prudential Center was half empty with ticket prices as low as $30, should say something.

UFC 200 did indeed sell pretty well. Brock Lesnar was a part of that. Jon Jones v DC was a part of that, even if it fell through. The landmark number of 200 was part of that. Even some of the early ticket sales were because a lot were anticipating McGregor v Diaz getting back on the card.

At the end of the day, it doesn't really matter what happens or who is right or wrong here. I just think you're massively over-estimating three letters - UFC. It was once all that mattered. 2016 is a star-driven sport where it's more important than ever to have a star name. McGregor and to a lesser extent Rousey, Lesnar and Kimbo all proved that point with the numbers they produced in the past 18 months.

I really don't think you're gonna sell 500 tickets at $1,250+ for a card headlined by Woodley. Even Weidman wouldn't sell it out and he's a New Yorker.

Ufc and a new york event have been something mma fans have been waiting literally over two decades for. I think some people who may have only started following the sport since 2014 (mcgregor wagon fans) may not realise the significance of it. This will be one of the biggest cards of the year, and it will sell out fast. The garden is the home of combat sports. Ali put on some epic fights and this will be the start of mmas journey in that famous arena. I expect the card to sell and sell fast, have my fight club membership secured now for tickets.

I was really considering going to the New York event until I found out I had a baby on the way, so that was the end of that . Heading to 204 and Belfast though, so that will have to do. I would give my left arm to head to the New York one though :(

You don't need to give your left arm to go, a kidney can fetch good money on the black market.

Rumours of Conor v Aldo. I reckon Conor is trying to hold out and push for Alvarez, I think Conor might get what he wants in the end if he refuses to fight unless he gets what he wants.

I'll take the liver off you if that's going, I'll need an extra one when I'm finished with Manchester nyc and Belfast!

In all seriousness, congrats on the pregnancy, best wishes to you and your partner. We'll be putting a set of hand wraps and gloves on him when he pops out of the womb and start him off early!

Conor and Aldo is just not appealing. Yeah sure we would like to see what will happen when it will obviously go longer than 13 seconds but it seems we only seen that fight.

I want to see conor tested at something different this time.

Yeh I'm not too pushed on seeing it either just yet. We had the build up for the fight twice previously and I could still do with another while before I have interest in seeing it all again.

I really hope it is McG vs Aldo. Firstly it will end all that "it wasn't really a fight" nonsense. Secondly it secures McG as the champion and buys him another year or so to arse around with other fights and weights, but mostly it will be on SOON and so we wont have another 6 months of build up to Mcg vs Aldo cos aint nobody got time for that :)

I think McG vs Aldo is more interesting than people might think. I think McG still wins but Aldo will be a lot more aware and cautious and therefore dangerous (watch for vicious leg kicks!).

I'd be well happy with McG vs Aldo tbh!

I just want to see him fight tbh, I think him vs Eddie or Aldo would both make for a great fight. But in the interest of fairness I think he should fight Aldo and stop holding up the title, or if he does fight Eddie give up the belt and let Aldo fight Holloway for it (another great fight). At the same time, a bit of a break would be good for his fighting career.
