Would be a great way to put the pressure on again if he thought the media attention on it was waning a bit. Jk is recording MMA hour today right? I wonder if anyone else will get on at all they're going to have lots to discuss!

He really is. They surely realise he has promoted this event from his phone more than he could possibly have done from America. They'll be studying him in marketing courses in the future for sure.

Multiple sources I have spoken with so far indicated nothing changed in regard to Conor’s exclusion from UFC 200. Nothing from his team yet.

Man, I was over this. Alright Jones/DC at 200 it is. Maybe Jones really hurt his leg or DC got an early call from the doc saying he can't. I dunno, would be fair bad if he was messing to force UFC to make a move. Glass box of emotions lads.

I'll wait until I hear it from Dana before I get too excited.

Conor has shown over the past few days that it's wise to take what he says on Twitter with a pinch of salt.

He is not really a genius. He is just the poster boy that the Irish social media youth always wanted.
Man bun , sleeve tatts, beard.
A hipster good with his fists.
The #fitfam/#cleaneating/#bulking/#gymlife set are his disciples. He is a brilliant athlete and I have no issue with him in that regard.
He is exactly the hero that the people who sing ole ole at concerts , clap when a plane lands, sing shoes off for the boys in green, say Netflix and chill or go for a cheeky nandos to have the bants aspire to be like.
A generation who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing , they lap up the mayweatheresque displays such as singing snoop dogg on a retro bike, posing for pics beside flash cars and talking about money spent frivolously .
A generation who's attention span is summed up by the length of a vine or 140 characters.

Most annoying of all is the unwavering demographic who revere him irrespective of calling a guy a nazi, talking about favellas or slagging Diaz for working with underprivileged kids.

A generation of " new money", all fur coat and no knickers.

Again I will say he is a fabulous athlete and we could all learn a thing or two about self discipline and nutrition from him . It's admirable.

If he could cut out the over the top behaviour I'd throw him the tri colour myself after a fight.

Unfortunately( not necessarily by his own design)he has become the pied piper of Irish douchebaggery , a Paddy Kardashian.

Mod Note: See charter 7) No fighter bashing ( either pro org or local level - it's not cool and shows a small mind ).

You don't half talk some shîte, you know that? Did McGregor bang your wife or something?

You've posted absolutely nothing of value to add to the conversation in this thread, you think you sound smart with your views of society and how CMG is everything wrong with the world, but you don't, quite the opposite in fact.

    Mod Note: Personal abuse.

In accordance with attacking the post and not the poster, the above is a whole load of absolute bollocks. From where I'm standing, he represents many positive things, self belief, hard work ethics, determination, not being afraid to push for great things, among many others. To belittle him and his fans because of a certain demographic of fan base, is beyond ridiculous.

I said complimentary things about him. His is phenomenal at his profession. What I am saying is he has been latched onto by clowns who post "dad" after every Twitter utterance

That may be true, but you're stating absolutes in your above post (which isn't the case). Not all of his fans are bell ends :) Those are just the loud unfortunates, & can be attached to any and every major sports star/team too.

You seem to have an issue with "lad" behaviour. To be honest I'm not even sure what half the cliches you said mean (cheeky nandos?). But I'm not sure what Conor has to do with your pet peeve? I don't think he often posts about cheeky nandos. People that you complain about are a tiny fraction of his fanbase.

You know for a while I really thought McGregor did actually really appreciate his fans and the loyal support he has had weather it be from the fans who have supported him from the start, the newbies or even just the bandwagoners.

Now I just realise I was being naive and it doesn't matter, its all about the money, end of. I think the whole thing is just disrespectful to fans, the very first tweet 'I have decided to retire young. Thanks for the cheese. Catch ya's later', i thought wow, what a way to make an announcement. Then as the saga went on I thought publicity stunt, and I still think that. This whole thing is taking fans for absolute mugs.
He's going to be fighting at 200, this whole thing was a big set up to get Conor out of doing all the promo work because he needs to stay in camp to train.
Hats off to their marketing team, they've done a great job, someone deserves a big pay rise.

Even if they were provably 100% of his fanbase it's still not Conor's fault. Stars don't choose their fans.

Which in my defence I did say. It wasn't his design

He's inspired a generation, including myself, to pick up some form of martial art or another. There will be a new wave of athletes in 5 or 10 years who will have been inspired what by this one guy from Dublin did.

When times were tough for our country he rose to the top. A small guy from Dublin, one of 7 billion people in the world and he's setting records. Giving everyone something to cheer and be proud of. He put us on the map and carried the tricolour with him the whole way.

Macgregor aside , I never understand statements like this. We are one of the most loved nations in the world prior to his appearing. Multi national corporations like apple and Google have offices here. We have always had close ties with America - the unofficial capital of the world. it's not like we were wiping our arses with dock leaves before he came along .

No, that would be fairly atypical, hence why it was deemed "news" .

Put us on the map in terms of MMA is how I read that.

Lol. Multi nationals have offices here because of tax breaks. Not because we are loved.

I don't get all the hatred especially on this an Irish forum for McGregor, can you imagine the same for Katie Taylor fighting for Ireland winning all those medals...would never happen

can only think of 2 reasons, his personality his brashness (his Dubliness) can't be his fighting style surely

or ...the fact he's resented because he's brought all these 'fanboys' to this a closed shop that is MMA, a niche sport populated by snobbery that you'll never see in any other sport ....to the 'dedicated' you either get it or you don't and if you try to get it you're not welcome

The genesis of my post was that another poster called him a genius based on retweets. Admittedly my rant is probably better placed in another forum because as I said almost by mistake he became the poster boy for these guys. Like zyzz in Australia or the jersey shore boys in the states . " we are stronger then you, better looking, obnoxious and don't give a **** " and guess what - they are in the majority. Im the one who is out of touch. I'm the one who is jaded and cynical .
    Maybe I should lighten up.

True . all I was trying to say was that he put us on the map . We were on the map a long time ago . Unless there is some sort of social media cartography i am yet to discover.

why would they need a ruse to get him out if the promo? They could just go ahead and give him a pass if they wanted.

In terms of self promotion, generation of hype and controversy, interest, and subsequent press attention...he's damned fine at what he does. It's all intentional, well thought out, and effective. I'm not sure about the current situation, I'm leaning towards agreeing with the conspiracy theorists myself in that this was all planned with Nate & Dana, but what do I know :o

In terms of lightening up, it's just important to realise that every sports star or team generates a certain amount of rabid idiocy, not all fans are like that though.
