Had 2 nights booked in the armada hotel with the mrs in spanish point overlooking the atlantic in Clare. Just listening to the wind and rain hammering against the hotel window, and watching the waves crash against the shore. Its been like this since 7 pm.

Turn off the lights, light a candle or two, enjoy the weather hammering against the window :)

    A nice romantic evening.

Roads being closed due to flooding is perfectly normal in a situation like this though. No harm putting it in the forecast to make people aware.
    Tomorrow

The extremely wet and very windy conditions will persist throughout the day on Saturday. Especially in the west and northwest where the prolonged and heavy rain is likely to cause more flooding and road closures. However, in southeastern and eastern counties, rain will become lighter and intermittent at times. The very strong southwesterly winds will also persist throughout the day and will increase again to gale force along the Atlantic seaboard in the afternoon. Highest temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees.

    Outlook

Saturday night will remain wet in all parts of the country, with further widespread heavy falls of rain resulting in ongoing flooding in many areas. Southwesterly winds will be strong and gusty at first but winds will moderate overnight while veering northwesterly. Early on Sunday morning, rain will finally clear all areas leaving just isolated showers in the north and northwest. Sunny spells will develop and northwest to west winds will continue to moderate, while later backing south to southeast; however, it will feel rather cool.

Early on Sunday night, a band of rain will spread northwards across the country, and winds veering southerly will become very strong and gusty once again. This new wet spell will maintain the threat of flooding in many areas. It will stay wet and windy for the first half of Monday but rain will clear to showers on Monday afternoon, and southerly winds will moderate to some extent. It will feel a little milder also.

The remainder of next week will see further showers or longer outbreaks of rain, although the south and east will become drier later. Winds will be west to southwest in direction and will be strong much of the time. The mid-week period will be rather cool but milder conditions are likely to develop later.

in all fairness fair play to met eireann, good detailed forecasts there on the website all afternoon /evening. i would usually jump the gun to criticize them but not today. spot on.

Moderate rain in Limerick City, this consistent rain will surely cause flooding. Be careful out there

Drove home from leixlip at 1030 would have classed it as a fairly standard blustery day but the water table must be mad high. There's a lot of surface water and roadside flooding started

13.8mm now, makes me wonder if my station is under reading, as in how much rain is getting down the little hole in the gauge with this wind.

    Look at map above comrade.

The coast is getting the brunt.

Your right about water table. Started raining in sligo after 2 and there were big puddles everywhere by 3. My rain gauge is on 22mm but it slowed between 11 and 12. A friend in mayo near claremorris has 27.2mm so far so id say were all right.

    100% agree.

West Limerick got pretty soggy on Thursday with the level of raifall experienced. Ground is still staurated. Prolonged rain on top of this will lead to further flooding.

The Shannon is already very high. I drove around by it this evening in Athlone on the way home and it's already lapping up over the top of the walls on either side. The weir wall has been covered for more than a week already. The river will be rolling in the back gate of Seans Bar Sunday morning if this keeps up

Only 2.8mm here so far, top gust 45mph. Quite tame really.

Driving from Dublin to West Limerick was uneventful as expected.

Fairly consistent rain all throughout the journey.

Motorway and national primary roads I travelled were fine, with minimal surface water. They was far more surface water from Thursdays rainfall.

Tertiary roads around West Limerick are in fair condition with water pooling at the sides. The usual streams of water running along the road in hilly areas with the usual places having standing water present.

Good steady rainfall here now so it will be interesting to see the situation in another 12 hours if this keeps up.

With up to 70mm of rain forecast (looking at it from the worst outcome forecast) it would only need a rainfall rate averaging slightly under 2mm/hr to achieve that number. Makes one think.

Impressive! Just 8.6mm here (in Dublin 16) so far from this 'event'.

By the end of the night, some locations in the west and northwest will definitely be in excess of 70mm, as the red warning from Met Eireann predicted.

Some roads in Kerry flooded pretty badly already.

    41.2mm in Sligo relentless

Wonder has garavogue got much higher.

Was gonna put xmas lights up but garden swimming so ill wait til tomorrow

Think Claremorris will win met rainfall race. Theyr well over the 50mm mark now. Newport got nearly 100mm Sept 11th/12th so whether they beat that....

One things for sure water levels way higher than then so huge flooding problems. Could be a day for online xmas shop.

I think Ill just get pist later as this is depressing though fascinating
