Going from north Kildare to Carrick-on-Shannon by train shortly for the night...should be interesting. Very windy here but the rain is light.

    Well for some!
How accurate is the rain gauge data when the wind is strong?
I have a homemade gauge here but the top has blown off.

Lumi what location do you have your rain sensor, mine is up high and wondering when the wind is strong I am not getting an accurate measurement as most rain could be blowing past the sensor

A surprisingly low 7mm here so far but then again Dublin more often than not escapes the worst.

Interesting to see some of the water levels as streams and rivers begin to catch the runoff.

UK Met Office just issued a Red Warning for "further rainfall totals in excess of 150 to 200 mm" on high ground.

So today could potentially be the wettest day for Ireland since the 18th September 1993? - when Cloone Lake recorded 243.5mm.

Starting to break up a bit in the south now, but should remain persistent in the west and northwest until late into the night with some heavier pulses arriving this evening.

It really shows up the lack of range. I keep looking at the radar & thinking that a clear spell is coming. The radar often doesn't pick up rain towards the outer limit.

    Satellite estimate can be handy.

The council are pumping out the drains in my street in Dunmanway, There's a marshy area behind the houses with a steep slope behind it. I'd like a mention for all those council workers out there keeping us safe today and let's not forget the ESB and Irish Water crews.

The strange thing is that the radar sometimes extends to the edge but not with rain from the west or south west

Edit: Looks like it's breaking up a bit to the west
