So it's available off amazon in the UK but due to the strong pound it works out expensive, any idea of when it will be released in Ireland? Seems like an excellent device for running Kodi playing games etc!

    I bought mine from Amazon.de for 199.99.
Have yet to actually fire up grid but as a kodi box, it is exceptional!
The ir receiver makes it a fantastic media centre addition I'm.

Yeah I see I could buy it from Germany but I'd prefer the 3 pin connector on the ac adaptor and also it's probably another 10-15 euros for shipping

Many UK Electronics come with this thing stuck on the plug
    http://www.amazon.de/Schwarz-Fused-Euro-Konverter-Plug-Euro-Stecker-Stecker/dp/B000KMCND0/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1447144993&sr=8-2&keywords=euro+konverter+plug

    Perhaps an option.

As far as I remember the eu power adaptor comes with multiple power plugs that can be changed depending on your country

I know some companies ship with various plug options that slide into the power brick but some don't if anyone can confirm that the Euro version ships with the various adaptors that would be great.
It would still be nice to pick one up in Argos or PC world

Just to clarify the power supply had two different heads you could clip onto it making it a uk 3 pin plug, we are not talking about a travel adaptor device that you plug the two pin shield power supply into a 3 pin adaptor

Nvidia shield bundle will be a lightning deal on amazon uk tomorrow at 13.10.

No idea of how much the discount will be yet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,581 ✭✭✭marcbrophy

£117.99 or approx €170 in the lightening sale!

    Is this good? :)

21% off something that doesn't really get discounted.

    I just ordered one

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,581 ✭✭✭marcbrophy

You must be a Prime customer!

I don't know if these will get to the public, more than 50% of the stock gone already

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,580 ✭✭✭moleyv

I signed up for the trial, which I have done before, so surprised it allowed me.

Yeah 20% were gone after 3 seconds.

    It is 199e on amazon.de

In relative terms it is less than 21% discount for us due to exchange rate, but decent none the less.

I had 40 pounds in vouchers built up too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,581 ✭✭✭marcbrophy

Nice one, I'm really tempted, but I have an android box, a mini pc and multiple chrome casts already, so I'll see :D

Thanks! your a star, I was on the wall about ordering it at 199 with the remote but at that price you can't go wrong, going to get it sent to my home address ParcelMotel is too risky at this time of year for something expensive like this.
    Thanks again!:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,580 ✭✭✭moleyv

Yeah to be honest I was expecting 10 pound off or something, didn't see that coming at all.

I was debating getting it, I use a RPi2 and chromecast.

I need my rpi2 for something else, so was debating buying another. I am also giving away my chromecast and was going to get the new one.

Given the shield will do both, and a hell of a lot more it was a no brainer.

Went off for lunch and forgot to order it :o
    Face palm and a half
    Edit: wait list success :pac:

    ^^^
You might have got the one I just let go from my basket :D

I had it in my basket twice and never pulled the trigger!
Might regret it, but looking into the Philips / Sony TV's with android TV as the OS.

I bought one as well. Serious buyers remorse but i am a sucker for a deal.

Getting the remote was a bonus and i am still trying to justify the purchase.

As a powerful media center with game emulation, i think i will keep the order and not cancel it.

Seemingly it is better at game streaming than the Steam link and it has a built in Chromecast.

Can you tell i am trying to talk myself into it :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,469 ✭✭✭Asmooh

Same, I want this as replacement for my current china-box.
But im willing to order from UK if I need to.

I would have found it hard to justify if I wasn't losing my Rpi 2 and was going replacing my chromecast AND if I didn't have built up vouchers.

I will be getting the nvidia shield tablet for my birthday in few days so its kinda cool to get this one3

I watched the below review last night, which made it seem pretty cool. And it's a good 5 months ago too, looks like there's been 5 firmware updates since :)

Might stick the beast build of Kodi on it they have one specially built for the Shield with an arcade emulator built in.

    1.) KODI

    2.) Game Emulators

I am well up to speed on KODI but would love any hints, tips, advice and links for getting starting on Emulators...cause I have not got a clue where to start.

Mine arrived today. Serious bit of kit. Bought a few games that are on sale like Portal and doom 3 with my 3 credit
    .
Not messed with emulation yet but retroboxtv seems to get recommended a lot

This seems to be in a lightening deal on Amazon.de at the moment. e158 including the remote. Is that a good price?

    Very good price dude!
In the other thread, I think €167 was the cheapest that people were getting it for :)

Cheers! I might pop it open anyway later and maybe buy some stuff and leave it at that, don't have to download just yet etc

I don't want to miss out on sales, would prob have to wait til after Christmas otherwise.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,580 ✭✭✭moleyv

So I got it out the box. I avoided too much reading up and YouTube video on it etc.

Packaging and the devices themselves are really nice. The HDMI and USB cable have a nice band around them, although it's only a twist tie on the power cable, knit picking really but shows how nice the rest is.

So set up looks nice and easy but, it has been a nightmare so far on WiFi, took 4 attempts to connect despite full signal.

Then the ability to sign in with a pin using a device on the same network, sounds awesome but didn't work. Had to do the old fashioned way. Which required second stage verification, sounds easy, but not when you can't get the virtual keyboard to show....

Some random button got it up, should be automatic.

Then the 700mb system update started, great, but no, connection kept dropping.

So I turned it off, connected to Ethernet and its downloading fine now. All other devices working fine on WiFi. I hope the update will sort it out, as I hoped to take it to other people's houses etc to have a bit of a game before nights out etc with all the emulators. Can't guarantee they will have a wired connection.

So not a great start for me so far.... But I'll reserve judgement until all set up and updated.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,581 ✭✭✭marcbrophy

Hopefully the system update sorts out the WiFi connecting issues.
If not, just try rebooting your wifi box to make sure that it's not the problem.
I know you say other devices are fine, but it happens me sometimes where my phones on the network working fine and the laptop will just refuse to connect. As soon as I reboot the modem, it works fine :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,580 ✭✭✭moleyv

Yeah that might be it, but I rebooted it early this morning, so I doubt it. Its within 10m of the router too, but when I connect it to the TV it will be further, still it showed full coverage.

I'll update when I get it up and running.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,581 ✭✭✭marcbrophy

Good stuff, hope it works for you!

I was setting up the wetek play box last night and it was having a hard time with WiFi when I was first set up, but after a firmware update, seemed to be fine :)

So got mine delivered today, I have wired internet so it updated pretty quickly first think was to install Kodi from the play store this failed a couple of times but after a reboot it installed ok also installed ES Explorer for later use, I stuck the blackbox build on first and it's working, haven't sideloaded any other apps yet, I'll try that tomorrow, might also stick the beast build on as well as that has an arcade emulator built into Kodi https://spartanpixel.net/Kodi/thebeast/

I've also stuck a Logitech K400 keyboard onto it and its working fine. So day one I'm pretty happy with the purchase. Lets keep the thread going for any helpful tutorials or decent apps to stick on our new toy!

I ordered mine yesterday from Amazon.co.uk. Thought it better to get it there as there would be no hassle with plugs. Was only a fraction more expensive than Amazon.de.

My plan is to use this to stream all my PC games.
Looking to retire my PS3. If I can play Dark Souls 1 with minimal lag though this, it will be worth the price.

People with knowledge of Kodi, would "thebeast" be the easiest and best way to get the online tv working or are there better options?

    Thanks

Accidentally ordered mine off US Amazon instead of the UK version.
It has been shipped today so should get it next week.

Also ordered a wireless mouse/keyboard to use with it.

Plan on using it for Plex Media server and going to install some version of Kodi for online watching and playing old retro Arcade/Emulated games.

So got ES File Explorer working, I had to take the shield off my wired connection and put it on my wifi network, then launch ES File Explorer turn on remote manager and it will give you an ftp address like ftp://192.168.1.44:3721/
Download something like FileZilla and install on your PC, in Host type the ip address and leave username and password blank and in port put 3721 hit quick connect and your in.

Now for what I installed last night you need to download the latest apk files, so some fun ones to try are Show box & Mobdro I did install aptiode thinking I could install the other two from within that but couldn't find them.

So once you find some interesting APK's download them and use the left pane of FileZilla to find the files and then on the right you have the remote files on your folder I picked the download folder, right click or double click on the apk you want to transfer and it will transfer over to the shields download folder.
To install it I went back to my shield went into ES File Explorer browsed the download folder and double clicked each of the apk's and went about installing them. One thing I found is that I had to use my keyboard/touchpad to go over each file to run it. couldn't seem to do it with the gamepad.
I'm currently installing the beast build, they seem to have removed the Shield version I will report back if there is any emulation built into the build.

Anyone having problems like me with voice search on the main screen?

I ask "Open Google Music" and it says "did not catch that"

The field is filled with the command. When i press right on the controller it opens Google Music.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,580 ✭✭✭moleyv

I was actually very impressed with the voice control.

My WiFi issues are still there though. Tried on a different router, range extender, changed channel etc.

I'll just use it wired with a homeplug or range extender.

I'll have to do wired anyway for the game link thing. Have to start looking into that, no bloody time for games yet though.

A minor niggle for me is the volume control on the controller, in some apps it can be hit and miss. Probably the apps fault, but nonetheless they are made especially for this platform.

I wish there were a few more racing games there, something like real racing 3. Asphalt is kind of rubbish, haven't looked at the others.

Installed a kodi build, not sure if they can be talked about really?

I saw plenty of emulators in the play store, not free, must look into them more. Obviously can sideload too.

I stuck in a 64gb microsd right away, 16gb would fly. I'll have to see how big emulators and ROMs are, might need to connect a hard drive, doubt they would work stored on a NAS?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,204 ✭✭✭moonboy52

I am wary about talking Kodi builds. The thread will get locked.

So Voice is working perfectly on the main screen for you Moleyv?

It works in Youtube for me alright

No word of the Shield yet, it has shipped with Royal Mail, and the remote shipped with UPS. Is this normal procedure?

The remote is in a separate box. I got from the UK site and they came together in a larger box with some other items I ordered.

Maybe someone else who order from French site can say if it is the same for them.

Just tried it there now, and not working. Just as you described.

Now I'm doubting if my searches were done on the main screen or in the play store.

I did a quick Google, and people on xda developers are saying it is a known issue. Their discussion started a few days ago. Nvidia are working on a fix.

I think I will submit a ticket regardless, combined with my WiFi issues, it is certainly annoying.

I'll wait for their response, if its crap, I'll send it back.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,204 ✭✭✭moonboy52

That is me on the XDA thread talking about it after the OP mentioned it when I did a Google search.

A guy on the HUKD owners thread confirmed he had the same issue yesterday. I posted again today but no-one confirmed the issue

It works in YouTube. It's a small if annoying issue, not enough for me to return it.

Not experienced any WiFi issues on my end
