just finishing Rise of the Tomb Raider

    playing a bit of Overwatch

but mostly been playing Rise of Nations: Rise of Legends on my laptop because it's handy beside me
I remembered playing the demo of this at the time 10 years ago but couldn't remember the name of it so eventually tracked it down but couldn't find it anywhere to buy it except 2nd hand
Only problem is the copy I "found" has all the text in Russian so not sure what all the things do :)

So tried boot up Shrouded in Sanity to give it a quick go, damn thing just blackscreened on me, then crashed if I pressed anything and gave a fatal memory error. Had to go mucking about with the ini file to get it to work, which thankfully did the trick. Some controller issues while on the main menu then, but everything seemed fine once I got into the game.

Proceeded to get murdered several times by the first enemy in the tutorial. Brilliant. :D

So, less than an hour of Soma and I'm already utterly creeped the hell out. Supposedly it's not meant to be that scary, I'm still bricking it. Maybe it's because I'm feeling sick? Might look at installing that Wuss Mode mod if I can't hack it.

Also, more Convoy, which I am seriously enjoying. Managed to beat the boss on easy, second time reaching it. :D

It's all psychological! I'm in the same boat, only about an hour in and had a nope moment already, but I'm enjoying the atmosphere of it so far! Creepy as hell...

Picked up 7 Days to Die in the Steam sale, having a lot of fun with this game with some of the lads from on here.

So, giving Crypt of the Necrodancer a quick look today, it's an odd one to get used to, and I'm not sure I fully get how combat works, but it's delightfully unique. Great soundtrack too, which is always a plus!

It's all strategic, pick the Bard character if you're struggling to learn how to play.

I can't follow a beat so play as the Bard anyways :pac: Basically, every enemy has their own movement pattern, and if you jump into an enemy as it jumps into you, you take damage, but if they aren't moving or you jump to an adjacent square you should hit them.

There's a practise area you can unlock for freeing people from cages

Oh I unlocked that, tried killing a few mobs. I think it's just that I need to get into the rhythm of things! :pac:

So, I've been playing Shrouded in Sanity, and... Well, there's no other way to say this, it's dogsh*t rough.

It's an odd one to begin with, a 2D pixelart Bloodborne clone with a sort of Double Dragon/Streets of Rage side-on perspective, you can move in eight directions, but only moving left and right are animated, and kinda makes things very janky. Because of some really lacking enemy animations, the combat is more than a bit frustrating, because it copies the Souls style combat but sorta misses what makes it work so well, so attacks aren't well telegraphed and have often left me wondering what the hell just killed me. Salt & Sanctuary managed to capture the Souls combat extremely well, attacks are well animated and you can see them coming, so you know when to dodge or block or parry, and can successfully counter them. If you **** up, it's your fault. Shrouded in Sanity however doesn't quite get this, and we're left with combat that feels unfair and rather unsatisfying, because the best way to beat enemies is to keep moving around and get in quick stabs until they die.

Then there's some other issues with the game that make it feel so painfully amateur. There's a lot of spelling and grammar mistakes throughout, there's a lot of very samey corridors and rooms which make navigating a chore, and some enemies will do this scream when attacking which becomes a seriously grating cacophany when there's more than one enemy on the screen. The dev could've added some different sounds at least, because I don't know how this got finished without someone noticing how horrible it is when those screams start to overlay. You have to manually collect 'Vitae' from corpses, this game's stand-in for Souls, yet if an enemy's corpse is too close to a doorway, you can't collect it because the button that harvests vitae is the same one that opens a door, so trying to do so opens the door and you travel to the next room. There's so many issues like this that make the game feel like it's an unfinished mess, not least of all the fact that I had to go tinkering in the ini file to even get it running in the first place. Yet...

    I like it!

I really do actually like it. I'm 2 hours in, and despite everything horrendously wrong with it, I am genuinely enjoying it. There's enough of a good idea there that I'm finding it really compelling, there's very little in the way of stats which is rather refreshing, and in spite of all the flaws and issues, I'm finding it quite fun. I wouldn't exactly recommend the game, it feels cheap and amateurish, like it should be in early access, and as far as Souls-inspired indie games go there are far better. Salt & Sanctuary and Hyper Light Drifter are miles ahead of this, but if you've exhausted the other Souls-likes out there, and you still want more, then Shrouded in Sanity is a thing.

Pity that this is likely about as close to Bloodborne we'll ever see on the PC. :o

Playing Stardew Valley and KSP on the PC. You set your own goals in these games. I enjoy the slow pace of them

Also playing the Witcher 3 on PS4

Not proud of this, but I started playing WoW again...

Had a 1 year sub present from Xmas and decided to finally pop the bastard. ( watching Wow movie had nothing to do with me resubbing :pac: )

Started new character on new server where buddy plays and leveling Warlock. Shockingly having a lot of fun. I already did proper Wow thing, where I am in the dungoen and get a phone call from misses: "so where are you, I am outside work waiting for you...." Me: " FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU, Ill be there in 5 mins!"

First time in 1.5 years I am late to pick her up, Thanks Obama, I mean WoW. :pac:

Finally got Dark Souls running well! :D Even with DSfix I was getting such horrendous screen tearing, that it was offputting just trying to play it, so tried a few different things to fix it, but finally managed to force vsync in the nvidia control panel, and now it's running quite smoothly!

Just finished Gone Home, was a nice little jaunt through the lives of Katie & Sam. As for the ending,
was I supposed to think that Sam had committed suicide in the attic, because I was absolutely convinced that I would find her hanging in the attic.

Play against a set number of other players, everbody body has a set time (say 40 sec) to complete all their moves. Very addictive when you get started.

dark souls 2.. picked it up in the steam sale for little monies (12e maybe?). Really enjoying it so far - doesnt have quite as epic or memorable boss fights as ds1, but still really good. Given me a real hankering for ds3 when ive cleared it

Pretty much nothing but Warcraft. Haven't bought anything in a while, as i've a wedding coming up, but it's managed to keep me entertained for the last few months.

Been thinking of going back to wow for the next expansion next month

Civ 5 multiplayer is a stain on civ 5s great reputation. My friends and I usually get through a game in 3 or 4 sessions. In every single one we will have to spend about 15 minutes to half an hour getting it to run smoothly. Not to mention how often it happens. It's half the reason I usually veto the civ games. That and I can't get over my friend being better than me :-D.

I've been playing the wargame red dragon busan pocket campaign. Getting very sick of getting my 5 heavy tanks rushed by 25 suicidal north Korean dime a dozen tanks. Also doesn't help that my U.S. marines keep on getting burned alive by NK hiding in bushes. That's really getting old.

Also been playing multiplayer civ 5. Spawned on a continent with AI so I just decided to snowball to victory. I've also decided to indoctrinate my friends population with my own religion, communism, yeah it's a religion now! It is a little boring though. I'm going to hop continents and maybe slaughter the non communist infidels!

WoW, though i was thinking of a WC2/3 playthrough at some stage.

I'm pretty much just leveling characters at the moment. The pre-patch launches next week though, which will bring in a lot of changes and some Legion invasion type stuff.

Warcraft 3 single player is fantastic if you haven't played it
