It's alive! The Alan Kelly Rap has resurfaced

The Alan Kelly Rap, the song used by Tipperary man in his MEP bid of 2009, has been found.

It was an instant classic. Lines like "His opinion isn't outdated like lino in kitchens and women like to say he looks like Brian O'Driscoll" prompted quotes like this from Labour's press office:

""The song instantly became an internet phenomenon when it was released ahead of the 2009 European elections. The rap song is one of the first ever political raps and the first of its kind in Ireland."

However, the tune vanished from the internet last year and sparked a search for answers.

    Now here it is.

Hope his rap song doesn't mention his pledge to the people of Tipperary that he would serve out his full term as a MEP if elected no matter what GE came along.

election campaign songs in general are a terrible idea - might have had a place in the past, but those days are long gone.

I don't think anyone in FF tied a man to a JCB , filled it with Semtex and forced him to drive it into a police station or his family would be killed!

Only because Semtex didn't exist the time they were murdering Protestant children.

This rap goes back to 2009 and it seems that the media resurrected it. By the way, my own view is that any publicity in relation to Alan Kelly is good publicity, he certainly will not lack name recognition on election day. He is odds on to take the third seat with Ireland's best known bookmakers.

It seems that you have to do a lot of reading between the lines here on this blog.

Tipperary: Don’t get caught tripping in Tipp

What a week it has been in Tipperary. It has lived up to its name in being one of the most competitive constituencies in the country, with punters getting stuck in to a number of selections.
•Jackie Cahill has accounted for 35% of bets placed on the market. From an opening price of 14/1, the Fianna Fail councillor is now

to take one of the 5 seats up for grabs.

Cahill was one of four Fianna Fail candidates that stood in Templemore Thurles in the 2014 local elections. He came away with 5.86% of the vote, fourth out of the four Fianna Fail runners. The money has spoken here and he now looks the favoured of their three runners here, marginally shorter than Michael Smith and Siobhan Ambrose appears to be making up the numbers.

•Sitting TD Mattie McGrath has a battle on his hands for the fifth seat. However, this didn’t stop customers taking the initial price of Evens. He looks plenty short now at

and we are happy being a layer at the current price.
•Minister for the Environment, Alan Kelly, has been the most well backed Labour runner in the country. Now

    from an opening 4/9.
•Love him or Hate him, Michael Lowry looks to have one of the safest seats in the country and the

available reflects this. A probable poll topper here, he is available at

to get the most first preferences in the country.

Lowry the Dail Dodger - has the worst voting record of any TD in the last Dail. He gets elected then disappears, can't even be bothered to speak up on behalf of his constituency. It will be a very bad day for Tipperary if he ever gets voted in again.

35% of very few bets is very very few bets. Most bets placed in elections are by the candidates and their team trying to cut their odds and make a headline. It's the polling data I'd like to see before we write off Mattie.

Agreed. I thought he was very very poor. There really is little going on there beyond a belief that he should inherit the family seat.

RTE Today with Sean O'Rourke is live from Tipperary.

Highlights so far include Seamie Morris outlining his plans to bring Hurling to American school children.

i agree he didn't get nearly as much exposure but the other two were pretty much just trading insults the entire time and talking over each other.

Mattie kept sniping in remarks like a school child, Kelly would defend himself in a high pitch which doesn't at all lend itself to that of a confident politician. Chris Donoghue was poor enough in keeping it balanced, his job is to keep them with an even time allotted. Sure isn't this very point that Kelly was whinging about to begin with, that Lowery was given his own slot before the debate.

I hope whoever nicks the last seat can make a bit of a positive profile for themselves nationally because looking at the other likely 4 TDs that will come from Tipp, its not going to represent well. Lower and Hayes won't be seen outside of local funeral homes for the next 5 years, Kelly will never shake all his bagage either in power or opposition for the next 5 years, and sure Mattie is Mattie - he does speak in the Daíl and has a bit of a profile but is generally seen as a pure Gombeen - same mould as a Healy Rea really.

Jesus that was an uninspiring debate. You could tell Mattie Healy and Kelly were the most experienced but they were appealing to their own base. Too many scripted answers taking the conversation away from the question asked. Hayes was very poor for such an experienced TD. Really struggled to answer anything he hadn't rehearsed. Cahill is playing entirely to the 70 year old farmer. There seems to be no reason for anyone else to vote for him. Morris had some bonkers proposals even for a Shinner.

Having listened to Cahill today and Smith yesterday on Newstalk I think Fianna Fail are in big trouble. Hayes isnt doing himself any favours and Coonan will probably get a boost now in the battle for the FG seat. Morris is entirely reliant on Sinn Fein's national performance. Kelly has retreated to his geographical base and will fire job announcements at that until he wins a seat.

Alan Kelly also said that he’d love to hear it played in Coppers some night.

There are some classic lines in the rap like "His opinion isn't outdated like lino in kitchens and women like to say he looks like Brian O'Driscoll".

But Kelly said his personal favourite is one that he thinks is still relevant now. “Fianna Fáil; no fada, spells Fianna fail.”

The real hero behind the piece though is GMC Beats who’s the rapper behind the song - and Kelly said he’ll be talking to him about a potential follow up.

When asked to give his own rendition of the rap Kelly said “I couldn’t do that, that would take away from what we’re going to do in the future.”

We asked would he consider releasing it as a charity single in aid of homelessness - to which Kelly replied “watch this space.”

Why is it that Lowry has been interviewed separately in both the Newstalk and Radio One coverage in the last few days? Why was he not invited to debate with the rest of them?

That's what AK wants to know, apparently he went ape at the newstalk crew over it. I suppose flowery lowery wouldn't engage in it, he's a shoe in and knows he doesn't have to, yet Newstalk would have wanted to talk to him about his past, brown envelopes and the possibility of a the much mooted deal with Fine Gael this time round. So they went ahead with him separately

If he was interviewed separately by RTE after the election was called I would be very surprised.

God! Are we able to accommodate a politician in Tipperary who tells it as it is ? Or are we gone soft and only want "sleevin and naysayer" politicians ?
