I'm guessing that the NX will support the Wii Remote, in the same way as the Wii U does, but doesn't rely on them for games (beyond Just Dance or party games)

That would be the most logical solution, and would be more encouraging :)

I knew that's where the nx was heading but it is introducing something new that will peak the attention of the mams and dads who bought the Wii for their kids.
Sure they told us plenty of times it's going to be something completely different or it's a new way to play so any chance of a traditional machine was out the window long ago.
So get used to jogging on the spot to move link in the new nx Zelda!

Just Dance? Yes! We finally might get Hanson on a Nintendo console at looking last!!!!

Best not to panic just yet. Ubisoft be crazy sometimes. For every Just Dance, we could get the underappreciated ZombiU type stuff.

NINTENDO CANADA REP SAYS NX INFO COMING IN THE FALL

Coming from CEO of Nintendo Canada, Pierre-Paul Trepanier...

"We decided to focus on Zelda (at E3). We'll talk about the NX fall. At that time, it will be 100% NX."

This is a Google translation from French, but it seems pretty cut-and-dry. It's not surprising to hear Nintendo will talk NX in the Fall. I mean, the system is due out March. They have to talk about it fairly soon!

    Taken from the comments:

Actually the exact translation is "We'll be talking about the NX before the end of the year. At this time it'll be 100% NX. Now it's 100% Zelda."
So not fall, winter and end of the year more specifically.

I'm gonna stop getting excited about things, they seem to take ages with info!

Wait a sec, didn't i read somewhere Zelda would be released on both platforms at the same time?

So it won't be till next effing year either way?

Yeah, they've said it'll be out March 2017

But if its coming out in March, they'll probably talk about it in-between August and October. Taken them long enough.

So important that they get their message across right & even the bungled delivery of Zelda that remains true. (the demo reset & showing pokemon right after the reveal)
They'll show it at the TGS in September I imagine

I've a feeling this will turn out to be another bitterly disappointing console from Nintendo

Well, until there's some evidence to back it up, we'll all have to just wait.

Nintendo has my eternal benefit of the doubt, so we should wait and see!

I'd be happy with a weaker console so long as it wasn't at all gimmicky. I love a lot of the Wii U exclusives but I was so frustrated playing with the tablet, especially in windwaker.

If they made it €250-€300 and still kept up the exclusives, with no gimmicks adding unnecessary costs, I'd be happy.

Their sales couldn't be any worse than with the Wii U so I don't see the problem.

PS2 was weaker than the gamecube and xbox and look how that turned out. And the Wii. And the PS1 was weaker than the N64.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,688 ✭✭✭Iseedeadpixels

Wasnt the main reason for the ps1 being a better selling console because it was cheaper and easier to use CD's?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,485 ✭✭✭✭Banjo

Distribution man. You could buy those games EVERYWHERE. Record shops (remember them? Before they became tshirt, bobble head and greeting cards shops with a few cds and vinyls in the back?), supermarkets, and these shops we used to have that sold video games as their primary business. I know, I can hardly believe such a place could thrive but they did. Anyway, they rammed the branding down your throat. And then when the PS2 hit with "welcome to the third place".... Vietnam, baby! Space version of the Wild West!
The N64 had high profile best-in-class titles and a parentage beyond gaming reproach, but the Cube could not compete with the prestige of the PS2 or the shiny new new of the Xbox, and it barely bothered to.

N64 had better games in my opinion, I had both consoles but put so much time into Goldeneye, Perfect Dark and Rogue Squadron, obviously Metal gear solid was a unreal game which I think helped the ps1 so much.

Good lord there's a nostalgia trip! Forgot all about that tagline. What a console though.

PS2 was the console of that gen, an out and out classic and everyone should own one.
The bulk of the games worth owning are cheap as chips online still, with only a few exceptions.

E3 2016: NINTENDO: 'A NEW KIND OF MARIO' IS COMING

And players may not have to wait too long to see it.

Just as Nintendo is challenging the conventions of The Legend of Zelda with Breath of the Wild, the company is similarly looking to shake up what players have come to expect with Mario.

"We're always challenging ourselves to create something new, so hopefully you'll see a new kind of Mario in about a year or two," Shigeru Miyamoto said in an interview with IGN.

"Maybe next E3 we'll be able to share something."

Miyamoto explained that the challenges Nintendo faces in tweaking the Mario formula are unique from those dealt with in producing Breath of the Wild because of how wide an audience Mario games reach.

"It's kind of difficult with Mario because some of the more important conventions of Mario are based on the approachability and accessibility of those games," Miyamoto said, noting that having new people join Nintendo has allowed them to look "at the conventions with fresh eyes."

Nope it's a open world style game (like GTA) where you start off as a plumber doing your daily jobs driving around the city in your suped up Kart then get a little trippy on mushrooms and things go south.......

at this stage I think we can forget about the new NX being anywhere near PS4 Neo in terms of specs as Nintendo already stated that their new machines is not about gigaflops and power.

If they release another machine with roughly the same processing power as the Wii U/360/ps3 and yet another gadget that nobody wants then I wonder what's the point of releasing a new machine at all.

I stopped buying Nintendo machines with the Wii and Wii U because of the expensive prices, underpowered machines and for the gadgets which I really don't want.

The new Zelda game has blown my mind, I really want to play it, so I am really hoping the NX turns out to be a machine that will be affordable, be at least as powerful as a current PS4 and most importantly have no gadgets, weird controllers and pointless mobile second screens.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,120 ✭✭✭✭Star Lord

It was rumoured to be somewhere around the same power as the XBOne, so it'll be behind the Neo/Scorpio, but should be able to hold it's own.

Specs are only part of what makes a console desirable, the games are the most important part. Good games = more interest/ attention to the console and purchases. zelda breath of the wild at E3 has probably cemented purchases of the nx at launch and i wouldn't be surprised if that was nintendos plan all along with their day long demo of the game. Mariokart 9 and splatoon 2 and a new mario platform game will shift more consoles, nintendo really needs this time around is third party support. Not having that shortend the wii u life considerably.

I'd generally agree but I'd argue that Wii U has a tonne of great exclusive games (far more than PS4 or Xbox One at this stage) and yet has been a big disappointment sales wise.

Momentum killing confusion over the name, lack of 3rd party, lack of fodder like COD and FIFA/Pro Evo and misuse of the gamepad, which I won't accept was a gimmick, but was just not used anywhere near enough. They were all the main reasons imo why it failed. It doesn't need to be mega powerful but it needs a decent amount of grunt to least stay near to Sony and MS, if the games hole is filled then they will do the rest.
