Sankei West recently spoke briefly with Nintendo's new president Tatsumi Kimishima. On the topic of NX, Kimishima noted that it will need to be an attractive system that gets them to jump in. He also reiterated that Nintendo aims for it to be a new experience totally different from Wii U and 3DS, and development is steadily progressing.

It's absolutely coming in 2016. If you experienced the Gamecube and Wii winding down, this is exactly like those periods before a new launch. Nintendo if they could, would launch it tomorrow if possible but they have to put plans in place, develop software and in part to save some face. The Wii U is their worst ever selling console, discounting the Virtual Boy. It's not even close to Gamecube numbers, roughly half of that total. Gamecube had its problems but it never caused Nintendo to be in the red and the third party situation is like comparing day and night.

I've said it before, unless it's another gimmick like the Wii it's not going to sell very well.
It's the Nintendo Brand, kids don't want it and either do the parents who still have the unused Wii knocking around. It's only us who want it, a small group of Fans.

If I were them I would buy the Sega Brand or something like that and bring out a more Adult focuses machine under that name and sell it alongside the Wii U.

Speaking as a parent, the problem I have is that by the time the NX is out, my eldest will be 7. And I'm worried I haven't done enough to indoctrinate her into the faith - she's going to want a fecking Playstation, and if the PS4 has any sort of media-station functionality that allows for BluRay/DVD playback or Netflix, my wife will get on that train too. I love them to bits, and I'm really going to miss them if that happens....

She's your kid man, she'll want the NX. It'll be bred into her like.

Presuming it is out this year, will anyone be pre-ordering?

I have never Day Oned a console before.

I won't be an early adopter. I've bought the Wii U & the 3DS at launch and felt they took a long time to become worth owning. Plus, I'll likely wait for the Zelda themed NX Ltd Edition :D

I will indeed be pre ordering. Damn you Nintendo *shakes fist*

I bought "my" Wii u for my son who was about 9 at the time for Xmas. He already had a PS3 and played the Wii u for about a half hour and never touched it again and went back to his PS3.

I got an Xbox One for Christmas to fill the media station/3rd party gaps.

My almost-five year old daughter showed some initial interest in Never Alone, Ori and the Rare Replay Banjo stuff. But she grew bored very very quickly.

The Wii U controller had been taken away from her after some anger management issues over the holidays. So she sits sulking with her Mega Yarn Yoshi watching SM3DW videos on my/her phone. When nobody is watching, she casts the videos to the TV.

Her brother had his 2nd birthday a few days ago. He had a cake with a snowman on it. She reminded me that she wants Mario on her birthday cake. And keeps reminding me.

    The indoctrination is strong.

Nor I. I will strongly consider doing so this time though. Especially if it is a hybrid.

The age of both your kids shows the pattern I'm talking about. A few years from now they will see older kids saying Nintendo is for Kids and they will want to play what the older kids play on their ps4/xbo etc. My own daughter loves playing the Wii u with me but when I'm not their she always plays minecraft on the ps4 and join her brothers game who is now 12 and she also asks can she play call of duty.

I'm pretty sure the 'NX' will be out in stores by November this year. But I think it's going to be a handheld. November 2017 we'll probably see the home console NX.

3DS is pretty long in the tooth now, but in saying that, there are a lot of games coming for it over 2016.

Whats the story/dates for the two DQ remakes?

And the next WiiU game coming as far as I can see is 4th March, TPHD which I can't wait for and I only played it for the first time (Wii version) last January. Looking forward to trying the original flipped version so it'll be all new and confusing for me. Also they said you will be able to carry over your details from the remake to Zelda U via the Wolf Link Amiibo, what ever that means, same time line for Zelda U? So that, then Star Fox Zero, and, emm, that's all I can think of now for the WiiU. I'm sure there are a few other games, I hope.

But after those games, it's looking a little 'end of life time' for the WiiU, just like the last year of Wii and Gamecube, somethings coming this year no doubt. Also, it's sold 11 or 12 million now, we are into the 4 year now, came out in 2012, it's not like with the Wii where if they released a new system in its 4th year they would be disappointing over 100million Wii owners, it's about 11million WiiU owners, Nintendo know that's not a lot, at all, time to move on, WiiU owners are not that important.

Personally, I won't be buying what ever the NX is at launch this time, I'll hold out for a year, or as someone else said above, wait for a sweet Zelda edition to be released. I was the same at the 3ds launch, it was dead on release but somehow they turned it around, nothing learned with the WiiU though. Hopefully with the NX they have learnt a lot and advertise the damn thing and have loads of good games and move to a more adult market. Sure Mario is great but jaysus, milking a dead cow there now.

I think the QoL project has been shelved for now, unless they are still working on it and have a surprise announcement for it at some point this year. But I think that is done for now.

Yeah that's pretty bad. A lot of eshop games, which is fine, but, meh, not the big 3rd party games we want. The eshop is OK, some good stuff on there, but I only buy one or two games a year from it, I want physical media, not a digital game that (for now) is not tied to my username like psn or xblive.

And what's that Wii game down at the very end? http://m.ie.ign.com/games/outdoors-unlimited/wii-117453 sounds terrible lol.

A lot of TBA listing too. Prob all going to the NX eshop

I just really hope wii u games are backwards compatible otherwise the 3/4 year life cycle is an insult to customers

I hope otherwise. I'd hate to see something new having to be burdened and lumbered with having to provide compatibility for an older machine. How is it an insult, your Wii U isn't suddenly going to stop working when the NX arrives...just keep it no?

Ps4 says hi!! That's a bigger kick in the face but sure, if you wanna play a ps3 game just get a cheap super slim ps3 second hand.

But tbh, I think the NX needs a full clean slate away from wii name, no b/c needed at all. And I don't think many people need it either. GCN backwards compatability was great for the wii, and still is, but Ninty hardly sold any new GCN games on it did they?

Ninty can update all the WiiU, Wii, and GC games and re-release them on NX for the NX over the coming years to a new audience. Not me though, I hold onto my systems and games. Buy I know I'll buy a good few of them, lol.

It'll be remakes and re-release's for the NX, much like the ps3/4 and xbox-one/360, nothing new.

I mean purely from a backwards compatible point of view

Obviously the wii u has been a failure in the marketplace but changing the system has to be special

I don't want xbox one ps4 graphics when Nintendo change to nx they need to crush the competition power wise whilst having a good price point

So what is the full picture on the nx like what exactly do we know about it so far? No tease advertising from Nintendo is crazy

Ads with maybe Nintendo badge and darkness then a voice the nx is coming.... Silence

Hype the hell out of it.... They need marketing department working overtime now

Seen a YouTube streamer say that one developer got an nx and quoted that no current gen console can even come close to rivalling the nx power wise God I hope so... Goodbye xbox one if this is as good as made out

The Wii U will be 4 years by Nov '16 and will be supported you would think for at least another year so making it 5 years.

That said and I'm only speaking for myself here but I'd be more than happy with a 4 year cycle for it based on the massive quality of the titles produced in that time.

I know it had no 3rd party stuff really but the 1st party stuff has been absolutely superb from Mario 3D World to Mario Kart, Donkey Kong, Splatoon, Mario Maker, etc..

I'm still to play the likes of pikmin and wonderful 101 to name just two.

I won't invest in the NX for about a year after launch because of price primarily but also because I've such a backlog to get through on the Wii U never mind other consoles.

    And Starfox is coming. STARFOX!!!!!!!!!!!

...ps please don't **** up Starfox Nintendo. Pllllleeeeaaaaassssereee!!!!

The Wii came 4.5 years after Gamecube so its not out of the question of a Q4 release. The Wii itself was only officially revealed 8 months before its launch.

I'll buy it when it becomes more affordable. I got the Wii U at £220 a couple years ago. Exchange rate was better. And got my PS4 before Christmas since could get it for about €250

The Wii U is as good as dead now with only a handful of worthwhile titles to look forward to this year and Zelda U probably being the only outstanding game. When the NX arrives, Nintendo will drop the Wii U like a hot snot.

I used to be a massive Nintendo fanboy, adored the SNES, N64 and Gamecube which were all amazing, fun to use, great games, great graphics.

But for me it all went wrong starting with the original Wii, a severely underpowered console which looked terrible on hdtvs, then changed towards brain games/diet stuff/girly games and such.

The Wii U once again, severely underpowered for the time it was released and a massive drought in games from day one. Although it's got some great games, its overpriced for what is is and far too few releases worth talking about.

Im currently fed up with the PS4 with very few exclusives worth owning and the Xbox One has nothing whatsoever on it worth playing so there is nothing more I would love than Nintendo to blow the PS4/XB1 out of the water with proper 1080p 60fps support in all games and bring more frequent quality releases as well as Wii/WiiU backwards compatibility. I would love Nintendo to come back strong and bring gaming home, a sort of SNES style console for 2016.

Nintendo have dropped the Wii U like a hot snot.
With only games that were already deep in development remaining to be released there's likely nothing with a release date past the summer on the cards for the WiiU at all.
The next Zelda title will be similar to the Twilight Princess release.
Everyone remembers and has an opinion on the Wii release, precious few have played the GC edition, and so it will be with nu LoZ this year, a legacy release for the WiiU, a superior release for the NX, hopefully taking full advantage of the extra dev time and not a motion control in sight!

    .

Agree with most of what you said, except this. There are quite a few quality games out. Trying to get through a hefty backlog of them at the moment, I definitely won't have got through them by the time NX comes out or near to it.

Wii U is dead as the dodo, we know and Nintendo knows it. Thats probably why they haven't even been bothering to advertise it, or price drop. Look at the christmas we've just had, Sony and Microsoft aggressively pushing the PS4/XB1 with good bundles and good prices, Nintendo did nothing. The 'New' 3DS and a lot of 2015 output felt like filler, filling in time till the NX is ready.

Not to say we didn't get a lot of good stuff in 2015 mind, but it was hardly a prime year for a Nintendo console owner. The only question now, do they reveal it though a direct, a press event, E3?
