Ugh, I'm getting bored with rumours.

When will we get a reveal? CES? A big direct in April or May? E3?

It'll most likely be a handheld with a home console to come a year later that links with the handheld completely, I think.

Games, I think there will be a lot of updated WiiU ports as 'budget' launch titles, like Smash, HW, with no gamepad support with all DLC on disc. Along with loads of new titles too.

I do think zelda WiiU will come to the NX, not at launch but I'm sure it will a year or two after launch to tide people over while Zelda NX is made. Like wwhd & tphd

Well its a couple of days to go till 2016. Surely we'll get a nintendo direct before the end of february, even if theres no NX news in it.

That interview with Koei Tecmo says absolutely nothing. Are they jumping on the fact they called it a 'machine'!? and that they have plans for it going forward? What else would they have? The media have a lot to answer for when people start getting bored of rumours etc when most of it isn't even a rumour or a single shred of anything new.

Going to be plenty of rumors and expert opinions until perhaps E3, I still feel late 2016 is to soon maybe mid 2017 and if it is a duel handheld and home console maybe sell them separate so people have an option. I think if the wii u game pad was separate it might have help sell a few more

I really think the vacant WiiU launch schedule Starfox and Zelda, presumably in the first half of 2016, suggests imminent replacement in the second half, with Zelda also coming to the NX.
Game of the Year editions of Smash, MK8 and the rest are almost certain, and given the first two don't depend on the touchscreen they should rock pretty hard too.

Unless Nintendo have some kind of great Wii U line up they're not telling us about for Q3/4, I think we'll get the NX next year. I mean 2015 wasn't a fantastic year, and not including the twilight princess remake/remaster, 2016 is even more barren.

edit - the gamepad wasn't the problem with the Wii U, it was Nintendo fumbling it.

I don't think anyone thinks the Gamepad was the Achilles heel of the format, and I am not even sure it was Nintendo's doing either.
Sega faced a situation, after the Saturn failed to grab non gaming people the way the Playstation did and, no matter what they did, the Dreamcast flopped hard. It was a great machine, with great games and was roundly ignored by everyone except those who had a history in the pastime of gaming. Those who knew little else than whatever polished fare Sony and EA produced just could not be motivated to give the Dreamcast a chance.
I think Nintendo found themselves in a similar position with the WiiU.
After the Wii I think the WiiU was always going to have a troubled time convincing people who loved the casual stuff, and even the more hardcore online stuff, that the new Nintendo console was something they should own.
For the first couple of years neither the PS4 or XB1 had anything that could compare to the sublime releases on the WiiU but, it didn't matter.
We saw the same sh1te tripped out on a regular basis on any thread on the console that wasn't in the Nintendo forum, "It's just a kids console" in a nutshell, "It's too expensive at €300/€250/€200" depending on which deal was quoted. "There's no new IP, and the games are all the same" and then when they released the amazing Splatoon "it's too limited with not enough content".

The name was a problem, I'll grant you.
Better that they had called it something else and had a casing that just in no way resembled the previous console but, I think the Nintendo name remained bonded to the kind of minigame compendiums that dominated the last year and shelves of Gamestops and Smyths everywhere, so no one wanted to buy into it.

Maybe the NX is going to have it a different way, with sufficient distance between it and the Wii to allow it to have an identity of it's own.

Maybe it will be MS' turn to be seen as irrelevant, with the XB1 making a good job of being an also ran in a two horse race.

    And this from the 24.12.15
Nintendo will show off their new NX gaming console behind closed doors at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January 2016, according to a new report which says third party companies have been sent an invite to a showcase.
    link

Yet another rumour I suppose but, given that the WiiU was announced at the CES in 2012 prior to launch in November of that year, I reckon this is shaping up to have the NX at retail this Christmas, and at a competitive price point too.

If they've any hope of success the usual suspects will have to be on board, EA, Activision, Ubi and countless legacy titles from Nintendo and third parties.
If they don't have Fifa, Madden, NfS, CoD, Battlefield and Far Assassin's Watch Cry this Christmas they might as well not bother!

Some exclusives from 3 party as well would be nice

Sure you don't need 3rd party exclusives. You need the 3rd party games at all, first, and having them on parity with PS4/XB1. Maybe exclusive DLC, like with Sony and Call Of Duty right now, or microsoft with fallout 4 mods.

Half Life 3 to be an NX launch exclusive!

    I wish....

With the nx launching in near future do you think its worth reinvesting in a wii u? Prices for the console remain so high mad prices online etc

Yeah its is be at least a year before NX will be out and there is plenty of great games for the Wii U. If you look around I'm sure you will find a bargain

DARK-KNIGHT you really should stop selling your Wii U. How many times have you bought and sold it?

January 4th and no news? This is disgraceful. I demand my NX news now!

Wonder how many people think that way. :)

    Definitely me!
I crave some official word on the new console.
That said, I would be chomping at the bit to read new console news regardless of manufacturer, though Nintendo always is that bit special.

Titbits, but may feed the needle for your arm :)

Hardcore gamers have been lured away, but the king is staging a comeback.
Nintendo set to announce new hybrid ‘NX’ console

Nintendo, once the king of video gaming, is back to challenge Xbox and Playstation, possibly with a new “hybrid” console that could be revealed within days.
There are reports emerging from Japan that the Nintendo NX will debut in 2016.
Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima confirmed the console’s development last year, describing it as a “brand-new concept”.

“For our dedicated video game platform business, Nintendo is currently developing a gaming platform codenamed ‘NX’,” Mr Kimishima said in an online statement......

All signs point to 2016 Q4 launch, considering the Wii U's software line up this year....

I wouldn't be surprised if it was showed off at CES, even behind closed doors. Exciting times.

The Christmas market is a big time and I would say they will aim for that and the Wii U had what 25 launch games ? So we could see the same for the NX hopefully in they get third party.

I'm assuming the Skylanders, Lego Dimensions and Disney Infinity will be available.

Maybe new Pikmin, Zelda Wii ported over, Retro Studios game, new Mario like Universe/Galaxy 3

Highly classified footage of the NX in action from deep within Nintendo's R&D lab.

There, that should satisfy your itch scratching for a while.

Sure you need less launch games, more a steady stream of quality games both during and after release. Wii U and PS Vita both had lots of launch games, and they both flopped.

I find the 2016 release idea silly.

They only said they'd start talking about it this year.
And while I fully expect to see it, and gameplay/demos this year at e3 or later, I can't see it coming out this year.

    ...Unless it's a handheld.

I honestly don't want it this year or even the year after is too soon. They should stick out the Wii u it only 3 or 4 years old.

I would put money on the NX coming this year. The gamecube was replaced in 4 years in the EU, the GBA got 3 years.

NX is certainly this year, I'd say the SDKs are out in the hands of developers already, tied up with nondisclosure agreements like you've never seen.
The lack of anything at all from Nintendo for the WiiU past the first quarter really means its time is done.
So, start you're saving now, come November you'll need €400 to get the NX and a couple of games for Christmas!

Iwata died. That's why they didn't say much about games for almost 6 months.

Well they weren't saying that much before he died (RIP) I mean E3 was all kinda... filler. If we believe the circumstances and the rumours we've heard, Nintendo has been winding down Wii U development to an extent for ages and diverting those resources to NX. I doubt the Wii U is suddenly gonna get a second wind at this stage.
