Well my car service parts arrived from Micks garage today, some time next week I will service it.

At the minute I am trying to figure out why my reverse lights are not working. I was under car testing the reverse switch on the transmission, all is good there. i have the panels under steering wheel and to right of pedals all taking apart to access LCM and I also have the LCM taking apart. I think it is the LCM that is at fault but it is only the reverse lights not working everything else is perfect, I don't want to waste money on that part and it does not fix it.

Also I have to catch a train at 3.15 and everything is hanging over pedals so I don't know how I am going to drive to train station.

Does the NCT test reverse lights?

They do indeed, focus' bulb was gone, (unknowingly) and it didn't pass because of it, amongst other things

    And he's gone.

Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson 'to be sacked' http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3010167/Top-Gear-presenter-Jeremy-Clarkson-sacked-BBC-internal-investigation-concludes-did-attack-producer-steak-dinner-fracas.html @MailOnline

Best of luck to him, the show was getting stale and at least now a less PC broadcaster might give him more leeway.

I disagree, i loved top gear for the show that it was.
Something fantastic has come to an end today in my eyes :(

Completely agree. I thought it was fantastic, loved Clarksons humour.

He's a fantastic presenter, he's got character and he's also a very intelligent articulate chap.

To this day I still say "yeeeeeeeeeees" and "powerrrrrrrrrrrr" when I overtake someone...:pac:

Lads, you can't really tow and automatic can you or is it possible once the drive wheels are lifted?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 893 ✭✭✭mhackett102

Just came across this Volkswagen Golf for sale on donedeal. Is it just me or do the badges on the boot look a bit off?

I also suspect it is a UK import as the clock is in mph and the reg is 05-TN-60xx (As far as I know, imported cars get the reg 00-TN-6xxx in Tipperary)

If the drive wheels are off the ground it's alright. Whatever you do don't spin the transmission via any propshaft - even in neutral - or you'll roger it.

Thanks lads, need to get a move on in getting it shifted to an Electronics specialist, I reckon it'll either be Paul Costello in Ballincollig or I think Daniel O' Connell down in Passage. Either way, pain.

Yeah, they are too close to the middle.

Don't "Irish" cars have KMH as well as MPH?

The Golf lettering is waaaay off

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,484 ✭✭✭ofcork

Looks like the badges are in the wrong place,in too close.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 893 ✭✭✭mhackett102

Im not considering buying it, well definitely not now.
The way the lettering is on the back really puts me off (either my OCD is kicking in, or I am suspecting it may have been in a crash and a new boot put on it with letters bought from Halfords). And that the car is more than likely a UK import also puts me off.

Also, €5k is a bit much to be paying for a 05 Golf which has no extras and NCT up in September IMO.

Besides, who needs a MK5 Golf when you can buy a MK2. :)

I was thinking about this exact thing since the whole Clarkson thing started...

The badges look crap. Way too close to the centre. While a car being sprayed at that age wouldnt put me of my car has been sprayed in at least two spots the boot I got done as my dad made sh!t of it with a trailer but it's completly original underneath cosmetic panel damage only.

But that car overall Id be put off a bit on the strong side but your still going to be paying over 4k for any decent 2005. Try for comfortline too although they are hard to get.

I got in contact with the owner (who surprisingly lives in the same parish as me) and she said that she is the one who imported it in and all VRT has been paid, but the boot was like that when she got it. The little things put me off :D

I would pay €5k for a 05 Golf but it would want to have NCT and lower mileage than that one (NCT up in September and has 212k km).

Im currently debating between a Vw Golf and an Audi A3. Anyone here have any opinions on what engine is the best? (Looking for between 2004 to 2006 models)

I dont necessarily need the people I see on TV to actually be nice people in real life, as long as the performance is good they can be the biggest Ass-hole under the sun and I wont care.

Anyone know how to tell if the 1.6 engined 00 avensis is a 101hp or 110hp version(using the reg on car parts websites say it could be either)?

What's your annual mileage again the 1.6 wouldn't be a bad bet if you can't get a clean diesel one.

I'll be doing approx 20k km a year, and I'll be looking to get one around June. Probably better off with diesel if Im doing that much driving I presume?

To be honest youd be better off in a petrol with that kinda mileage

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,031 ✭✭✭Bpmull

It's kind of border line I do about 35k km a year. The problem is if you get a high mileage diesel one that wasn't minded it could be troublesome enough. Although they are generally a decent engine. I know very little about the 1.6 petrol.

I'm a petrol man through and through but if I was doing 20k km I'd be in a diesel.
