pretty sure they sign a waiver before minis that nasically if they get inkured before signing the negotiations continue as if the player isnt injured

I'm not 100% sure. All I know is that the NFL doesn't seem to be a particularly sentimental business!

I think they still could have put language that could have protected them more - it does not seem to be unusual, even for top picks.

nothing to do with sentiment at all. you take the hit for the year and see how he comes back if he cant you cut him. they cut him now ans some team will pick him up and they get nothing for the first round pick

ah but you can't tell me this isn't nice for a guy that blew his ACL in his first practise.

Per a league source, Fowler’s fully-guaranteed $23.5 million contract has no offset language. So if he gets cut at some point in the next four seasons, he gets all of the money, unreduced by any amounts he earns with a new team.

theres an honest negotiating clause when a players drafted stating that if he gets injured before the contracts signed the team will negotiate in good faith.

either way where he's drafted decides how much he gets paid the negotiation as far as i know is mostly with regards how much is guaranteed and the difference that can be made even those negotiations are minimal

That's probably why the Jags are were they are as an organisation.

I'm all for sentiment but that's a serious amount of money to plough into someone who you don't know how they will be come back.

TBF it probably a good business decision along with it being the right moral decision too.

The Jags are not under cap pressure and probably won't be for the length of his contract so its not real skin off their nose. The benefits of this is that it boosts their current teams morale and faith in the front office and this nice gesture makes them more attractive to potential FAs.

I don't find that funny in any way. I'd expect it from a Jets fan not a Giants fan.

    Ohh, snap!

You're a bit precious about all of this, though. Hardly a fair judge in the humour department.

Bit of light hearted fun, also I've made my opinions on this matter clear in the main deflate gate thread.

Maybe it's funny if you are a gamer or something. Like gamers all use cheats regularly I think.

Yeah, this is a very serious, important tragedy and people shouldn't be making jokes about it. This isn't 9/11 or something, there needs to be boundaries.

No, you and the rest just don't seem to get it. I don't find it in the least bit funny. I am well able to laugh at a joke about things that have happened even when the team is one I support. This just doesn't come across as funny in any way to me.

I get the double meaning of cheat but it's just not funny.

I thought it was funny and I am a Pats fan. Some of the jokes are actually pretty funny. Gots to have a sense of humour in all of this.

What do you think of the 3 extra point rule changes being voted on?

They need 3/4 of the owenrs to pass one of them.

    1. Ball placed at 15-yard line for 1-point kick; ball placed at 2-yard line for 2-point try (Patriots submission)

    2. Ball placed at 15-yard line for 1-point kick; ball placed at 1-yard line for 2-point try; defense can score the points if it returns a turnover the other end zone on the 2-point try (Eagles submission)

    3. Same as Eagles submission, but 2-point conversion from the 2-yard line (competition committee submission)

I'd be in favour of option 3 from these, wouldn't upset me greatly if they are rejected though.

if the eagles submission goes through (which i dont think it will) tebow is suddenly a special teams superstar.

option 3 is probably the most likely theres really no reason a pick or fumble can't be returned on special teams

I'm for it, tbh. Changes the dynamics of the game more than you'd think. The 3 point or 7 point spread will no longer be the norm, that's for sure.

Could be a head scratcher for the bookies to get used to as well. All in all, it adds and extra layer to the game I think.

What proportion of 1pt kicks are missed under the existing rules?

And what proportion of 3pt kicks are missed at present from the 15yd line? Best I can do for data is looking at the below link:

    http://archive.advancedfootballanalytics.com/2011/10/janikowski-factor.html

That suggests the proportion of successful 1pt conversions will drop from c. 99% to c. 92%.

I hate all the options up for vote.

The two i had heard proposed that make most sense to me are:

Abolish the pat, award 7pts for a td or 6pts with option of going for 2 from the 1 yard line.

This has the advantage of close games not been decided by a missed pat, which would be very anticlimactic end to a great game. Team scores last second td to tie the game, only to see thhe add on pat missed from the 15...i don't think the nfl would benefit from that type of antidrama. Also has a safety benefit, would speed the game along a bit too, but would leace the implications of the 2 pt attempt.

The second option would be to keep the pat and 2pt where it is, but narrow the goalposts. The successful pat will drop a little, perhaps enough to make the point not automatic. The added bonus would be increased difgiculty for field goals may lead to coaches being more aggressive going for it in 4th down situations around the opponants 40-35 yard line.

i would imagine the players association would have a **** if there was not at least an option to kick
