watch any first half of packers games in green bay - seriously unreal offensive play!! Whilst Rodgers has some good players around him he is just unreal

    Redskins @ Cowboys was brilliant.

In the post-season Packers' games against Seattle and Dallas were great. Patriots against Ravens was a genuine classic.

Not much springs to mind from the regular season

You guys have already named the good playoff games. Two that haven't been mentioned.

Jets at the Patriots was very good (I just saw the edited highlights, mind you). The last quarter was hectic.
Chargers at the Ravens was another scorcher.

I know its obvious but nobody has said the Seahawks Patriots in the Super Bowl yet. Rarely does the Super Bowl live up to the hype, but that was a great game (not just because I'm a Pats fan).

What do people reckon the best game of last season was? Think I'll watch a game tonight too, any suggestions?

    Thinking...
    The wembley comeback game
Giants V Cowboys featuring Beckham's catch
    Seahawks V Broncos (Superbowl rematch)
Packers V Patriots ("the Superbowl preview")

    Then in the playoffs...
    Seahawks/Packers or Patriots/Ravens
I pick them at random and have had some stinkers including that classic involving the Vikings and giants where josh freeman couldn't have hit water if he fell out of a boat. It's not all flashy good games.

A recent NFL survey voted it the greatest game of all time...

And it really had everything, I've never seen a clash between two Goliath's deliver so much on the biggest stage. It had drama right through the game. I've seen 33 Superbowls and I think I'd have a long wait to see another game like that.

Ross Tucker has a good podcast up. He interviews Pat Kirwan

The shows gives tips for fans how to recognize players groupings, protections, schemes, man or zone, etc

Its easy to follow and has little nuggets of information I'll be watching for in future. You won't get bogged down in technical points, its for fans and not coaches

    Worth a listen :)

My favourite game this year was Seattle v St Louis in week 7.
Some of my favourite games this year gone were:

    Week 1 Pittsburgh v Cleveland
Week 2 Cleveland v New Orleans
    Week 3 Philadelphia v Washington
Week 4 Nothing springs to mind...the Chiefs v Patriots was stunning (in an unexpected way) though.
Week 5 I don't remember it specifically, but Tampa v New Orleans looks pretty good.
Week 6 Dallas v Seattle or Green Bay v Miami
Week 7 Seattle v St Louis
Week 8 Green Bay v New Orleans or Pittsburgh v Indianapolis.
    Week 9 Washington v Minnesota
Week 10 San Francisco v New Orleans
    Week 11 Pittsburgh v Tennessee
Week 12 San Diego v St Louis or Denver v Miami or Dallas v New York
Week 13 San Diego v Baltimore or Green Bay v New England
Week 14 Green Bay v Atlanta
    Week 15 Dallas v Philadelphia
Week 16 Miami v Minnesota or San Diego v San Francisco
Week 17 Nothing....maybe Green Bay v Detroit or watch Panthers v Falcons to see complete haplessness of Atlanta.

I've watched the entire game on gamepass 4 times and it's the best game I've probably ever seen.

Chris Snee now. Crazy how much weight a lot of OL lose when they retire. Or another angle, how unnatural their body is during their playing careers.

I mean Snee is almost unrecognizable here. (Unless its shopped. The legs do look funny to me, but it might also be the camera/pixels)

Nick Hardwick also had an article about his weight gain, and ultimate loss then when he retired though.

To be fair nobody should be up around the 300lb mark including professional athletes, It in itself is not natural, considering anything below 200lbs is considered small and that's 15stone roughly

I wonder if the NFL will ever implement an upper weight limit on the players, like they did with the heavyweight division in the UFC as the weight of lineman on both sides of the ball has turned into an evolutionary arms race of sorts.

There's no advantage to be gained when both are in the 300 pound range, but it would be near impossible to drop back towards lighter linemen voluntarily.
With the NFL finding out more about head injuries, how they're caused and the number of knee and leg injuries we see these days (even in practise) I wonder if it is coming down the line some day. It seems clear that for the linemen themselves this is not even close to their natural weight.

Comparison of lineman size through the years.

To be honest I think a lot of the heaver linemen are not mobile enough anyway the Eagles have a pretty small line (I think peters is the only guy over 300lbs) and I would say there too 2-3 at least in the nfl. With how much teams pass I would say your better off with a smaller more agile but technically proficient blocker I'm not a fan of the big mauler in general.

The 49ers retirement epidemic continues. I now believe we are the worst team in the division. Not sure who will play RT now, Johnathon Martin maybe.

    http://www.ninersnation.com/2015/6/5/8738063/anthony-davis-retires-from-nfl-49ers

    Patrick Willis
    Chis Borland
    Justin Smith
    Anthony Davis

Edit: Martin got released. Royally ****ed.

210Lbs would be bang on 15 stone. But I think certain genetics can carry if off and are predisposed to being very big. If you look at Nate Solder the Pats LT, the guy is 6' 8" and 320Lbs or nearly 23 stone. But you'd never think it, because he has a huge frame to carry it. He's not bloated or excessively carbed up, the way you see in smaller guys who shouldn't be carrying that kind of weight. Guys like Solder cope better because of their natural size and with his height and frame. If he stopped playing football, I'd be shocked if he dropped below 18 stone. The problem in the NFl is when you get guys who are 6' 1" 6' 2" playing DL or OL. Then trying to bulk up to + 300Lbs, when their height & frame means it's safer for them to not exceed 250Lb - 270Lb. But that's the pressure of the business they enter I suppose and for them the risks are worth it.

How does it work contractually if a player retires with years left on his contract. Can he later come out of retirement to play for someone else or would he owe money to the former team?

he wont get paid as the team can actually sue as was the situation with the first 49rs player that retired but iirc the team have first option to resign him

The franchise still own his rights.

Linebacker Rolando McClain retired when he was with the Ravens. He decided to come back but the Cowboys couldn't just sign him as he was not a free agent.

The Cowboys gave up a 6th rounder as I remember

It's shocking. If you were trying to run a franchise into the ground, would it look much different? And from what has been one of the model teams in the NFL for the last few years.

David is paying back the 49ers his digging bonus not yet earned. Nearly $5 million.

That should mean no big cap hit.

from what I've heard Davis wants to take a year or two off to let his body/brain heal. So if he does return to football in a couple of years, will he return as a 49er or a free agent? I assume his contract would be void as soon as he announced the retirement?

Nope contract still exists but if he returned after the time frame of his contract hes a fa

He's contract runs through 2019, he'll still be a 49er if he returns.

Christ almighty that's brutal, I've never seen anything like that kind of roster turnover before. It has to be an NFL record.
