It's abundantly clear that leo has no interest in his portfolio, Enda put him there to shaft him and he's going to just serve out his time until he can move up.

How is that even remotely clear?

Bambi must be the type of fellow who thinks a dysfunctional system filled with vested interests and entrenched work practices can be fixed in 6 months. Leo is a nasty right-winger though, so Bambi refuses to even take off his red-tinged sunglasses of socialist delusion.

Which is my point. There is a limit on what couples can do in public. Sex in public is obviously not on (You agree?), oral sex the same. For hands down the pants, well most/everyone would consider this inappropriate in a public setting and many would categorise groping as heavy petting. In fact if a man was touching himself in the presence of children he would be up for sexual assault.

If they were just mauling the face of each other, well it would depend in the context. If they were doing in a playground or if adults were doing it outside a school I don't think it would be appropriate and if you consider me a 'prude' for saying that well so be it. And I say this as someone who has been to more Gay bars and clubs over the past year than you have probably been in in your life.

Tbh, if grown adults are mauling the face of each other in public it shows more about them than people who disapprove. Do they think they are 14 again? I have walked up and down Kings Cross, Oxford St and King St here in Sydney at all hours of the day and night and have never seen a straight or gay couple mauling the face of each other, so all these hypothetical barbs while fun is nothing more than an effort to poke fun and bully someone into a corner while backslapping ensues. Its like being back in the school playground.

What are you arguing against here?

I never said it was "appropriate" or tasteful to do so, but the fact remains that people do have the right to kiss passionately In public, and neither you nor Mrs Byrne have a right to stop them.

After that, I couldn't care whether your approve or how many gay bars you've been to (am I meant to applaud you for that?).

And I hope I don't need to explain the difference between sex acts (illegal in public) and kissing (not illegal in public) to you.

I don't agree. I don't condone it but I would never criminalise it. As you mention yourself of your time in Australia, most people don't engage in that kind of behaviour anyway. Again, I wouldn't condone it, but as long as he never touches the children then it should not be criminalised.

How said anything about criminalising a shift?

Remember the big controversy regarding Niel Prendeville.

Touching yourself in public is a no-no and if kids are in the area, well best get a good lawyer as you will need it.

    Eh, people are mammals, so...

Try that excuse in a court of law.

Judge: 'Why did you mount that girl and attempt to perform a sexual act, without her permission'
Mammal: 'Eh duh, cause I am a mammal'
Judge: '5 years, with the last two suspended... next!'

You see HUNDREDS of teenagers in town mastrubating each other...EVERY DAY. Dude, best not tell us that, the Guards will be ringing your door and looking through your computer.

Now if you meant masturbating then maybe you need to be a little clearer because what you claim is illegal actually isn't.

All you are doing is projecting an argument that no one is making. You and her actually agree that it is not appropriate so you are splitting stones. Playground stuff as I said.

Well, my post did go through a list of what is illegal and what is not, but thanks anyway for the heads up.

It should not be a criminal offence is what I'm saying. Neither should having sex in public be. If nobody else is physically harmed then it should not be a crime just because people are offended.

A man touching himself or masturbating near a group of children should be arrested and given psychiatric treatment, not convicted of a crime.

    Eh, yes.
Tell that to the hundreds of teenagers i see around town with their hands down the front of their tracksuits every day.

Why are their hands down their tracksuits, fishing for dole money? Playing poker?
Now if you meant masturbating then maybe you need to be a little clearer because what you claim is illegal actually isn't.

I think you will find that it actually is, by all means go ahead and pull down your pants on O'Connel street during the day and pull one out with everyone looking. When the Guards show up, you can then say its your civil right to have a **** in public. That will teach 'em.

I regularly see lads with their hands down the front of their tracksuits. Regularly as in every single day. They are not masturbating unless they are tragically endowed.

    Again

Well that is a discussion for another day but in this thread we are dealing with the here and now and the actual law as of today, not hypotheticals when your argument has been turned negative.

Nobody, but you seem to have a problem with it in public though.

Mad Men's Don Draper : What you call love was invented by guys like me, to sell nylons.

    Again

I never said they were masturbating i said they have their hands down the front of their tracksuits.

So, again... why were their hands down the front of their tracksuits? Keeping them warm from the cold I suppose? You are being deliberately obtuse and or incredibly naive. Or making it up as you go along, since you do see hundreds of teenagers performing sexual acts on themselves every day now...
I can smell the manure from here.

Sorry, I just thought it was a more interesting topic than some politician's sexuality. The law is wrong, as it often is.

What's most frightening is a poll done on Claire Byrne's show last night where 17% of people said they would feel they had the right to know a politician's sexuality.

Are you serious? You've never seen young lads with their hands down their tracksuits? You must be very rarely in Dublin CC.

****ed if i know, You don't walk up to a bunh of lads and say

"S'cuse me lads, why you got your hands down your kecks?"

Why not take a walk around the city center yourself and ask them?

I'm am thoroughly confused about what the hell you are trying to argue.

Mrs B was raving on about having a right not to see people kissing on the street, and compared it to defecating in public.

I pointed out to her she had no right or expectation not to see people kissing, and they were fully entitled to kiss in public.

And then you came on talking about limits on what couples can do in public, and talked about blow jobs, touching oneself/masturbation and kissing on the street as if it they were in any way comparable.

If you don't like seeing people kiss, fine. Look the other way, and mutter about them under your breath as you pass. But they are free to do it if they wish, regardless whether you, I or any craggy Islanders would prefer otherwise.

And I don't find it inappropriate. I don't do it myself but i don't care if others do. If two people are caught up in a moment, let them off.
