...Far too many reviews for comfort say it's basically a glorified trailer for another half dozen DC films...

That's exactly what it felt like alright. Way too long a film and it left me more looking forward to the next DC films, that and Midnight Special looks great!

This is exactly it, big nonsense is damn entertaining! I love a big loud stupid, fighting filled movie.
Enjoy life people, don't be so serious :)

But do avoid those adam sandler movies, they give you cancer.

    Edit:
    Anyway, I watched BvS tonight.

Was it a great movie? No.
    Was it terrible? No.
Did I enjoy it? Sure, for what it was.
Affleck is a damn good Batman and I'm looking forward to a proper Batman movie with him in it, Cavill is a pretty wooden plank in a Superman suit.
Eisenberg, FFS!!, this guy, how does he get work?

I thought the film was ok but opposite to yourself I didn't like Affleck as Batman at all. He's just not convincing in that role and to be honest Batman is a total dick for most of the film until all of a sudden they're best mates.

    Eisenberg was terrible.

I'd be interested to hear who people think would make a good Superman, seems to me no matter who gets the role folks would complain. Not exactly a role that needs great acting chops either.

I was actually talking about that on Thursday, someone thought they had shingles under their arm and I was saying it could have been what Retr0 had.
Eventually after an hour we convinced them to go to the Dr.

    Maybe it's a Gummi Bear.

The only thing that can really run into a tram on the green line are yummy mummys pushing their 4X4 style off road buggies and sheep.

My dad drove a trolley bus in the UK, back in the early 60's, it was a bus with a big electrical engine in the back powered from an overhead line.
All sorts of techniques needed to drive it, including being able to go quickly to allow the pick up overhead jump the gaps when transferring to a different line.

    Regarding pay though.
When considering paying a living wage to a worker, you should be paying just that.
It isn't necessarily contingent on the difficulty of the work involved, being a Luas driver requires a person to be in control of a vehicle for a whole working day, each day they are on, and it doesn't matter if they sit there and scratch themselves for the duration, they are compelled by their contract to be there. This then requires payment.
Couple this with the altogether random and often foolish habits of passengers boarding and alighting, as well as fellow road users, animals and so on, the driver has to have their attention on the path ahead as well as in their periphery.
If the vehicle was on a dedicated track it would be simple enough to run with the aforementioned RPZero, just as the light commuter rail in and out of London Airport is computer controller, but the human factors and the way the rail shares roadspace with people and vehicles means it requires a human at the controls.
And this person deserves to be paid a living wage.

And if a nurse, doctor or guard is getting a wage that compares unfavourably to the wage of a Luas driver, they should probably speak to their own union.
As a nurse myself for many years, now a manager, it is the new recruits that get paid dreadful wages, but they do have a incremental pathway that their wages follow.

    Rant over!

Just back from from batman vs superman.

It's a steam pile of crap I'm afraid. I'm still wondering why lex Luther, superman and batman wanted to kill each other. It's just terrible scriptwriting. Nothing made any sense.

Lex Luther was the worst thing about it. In any good incarnation, my point of reference being mostly the awesome WB animated series, he is basically capitalism taken to the extreme. He will do anything for money but superman is always in his way. In this one he's just crazy and as a result boring.

Just back from seeing BvS this morning and I really enjoyed it.
    Sorry.

Really two films for much of it's length I thought it was a great portrayal of Batman, a man with a history as the Bat and a pure product of his city and his loss at it's hands.
Superman's tale was pretty much a continuation of MoS, and I don't really get the hate being poured out on him, a person dealing with expectations, both his own, both of his late fathers, and that of the people of Metropolis and the world.
Criticism of supporting actors too seems misplaced, they were there for just long enough, with plenty of impact given their limited time onscreen, from WW, LL and Perry White.
Plenty of shout outs to the comics, Dark Knight Returns looms large, as does Death of Superman, and Joker is plastered in the backgrounds of dingy buildings, a suitable omen of things to come.

So, I really enjoyed it, not sure what people are barking about when they lay on the disgust at it.
The Bat/Supe fight and make up is kinda explained in the film,
with Superman being forced by Lex to fight Batman and Batman becoming obsessed with stopping Superman but coming to his senses with the common names of their mothers, maybe a little abrupt but no more so than the innumerable coincidences peppering fiction of all media and genres

The only thing that really grated was at the outset of the final act devoted to other meta-humans.... felt like someone opened up a Youtube page belonging to WB within the movie to play trailers for upcoming DCCU movies!

It was pretty much the worst script in a film I've seen in a long time. Batman going around murdering people. The batmobile chase sequence that meant nothing because he went ahead a stole the kryptonite off screen later. The daft reasons for lex, supes and batman to fight each other. And then there was holly hunters character, the only sane one with the sanest answer, let's just sit down and talk about this which would have stopped all of it before it started. It's just utter nonsense on screen. As for the fight with the giant mutant at the end, it felt like the end of a daft Capcom game rather than a film.

And then there's the dream sequences... What a total waste and such a boring build up.

Are there any other film genres being explored lately or are we doomed to receive bad superhero film after bad superhero film for eternity?

I enjoyed it for what it was, a movie based on characters with super powers/super gadgets from a comic book.
Was it great, no, but it was an ok 2.5 hours sitting down with popcorn and a large coke :)

I recently discovered a surprising but effective solution to the endless stream of mediocre or worse superhero films: I just don't go to see the damn things anymore :pac:

I'm surprised you considered it fun, because by the hour and a half mark, I was just bored to tears by the whole affair. Even if you were hoping for Supes and Bats duking it out on screen (if you were even interested in that sort of thing), that fight last about 6 minutes tops and mostly takes place inside some building.

Also, for whatever reason, Jessie Eisenberg is in character as Lex advertising Turkish Airlines on television.

I felt like I had to go. I just wanted to see how bad this movie would get.

It was fun, at least as fun as the previous WB DC movies have been.
It's not on par with Captain America Winter Soldier, but it's at least as passable as Ultron or Iron Man, it's as if you guys have mostly gone to see to a different movie than I did....
Looking forward to Suicide Squad now, in August!

I felt like I had to go.

Which is exactly what "they" want you to think. Doesn't matter if it's good or bad, they just want you to go see it, tease another half dozen films in the process, and spit you back out. I absolutely understand some people are passionate about comic books and what not and will happily and proudly go to see them all and enjoy most of them - that's cool. But if you're just going to see how bad it is or out of some grim sense of obligation: stop going. Seriously. There's dozens if not hundreds of brilliant, imaginative, intelligent films out there every single year - superhero films rarely feature among them. You're not losing anything by skipping Batman v Superman and going to see something else instead.

Age of Ultron was fairly crisp alright but bats vs supes was another level of awful. I'm not the biggest fan of the usual joss whedon self indulgent wise cracking but at least it's consistent and entertaining. At least the worst marvel films aren't as boring as BvsS.

I went to see cloverfield lane last night instead.....all I can say is that holy **** is it intense. John Goodman is really great in it and just overall a very good cinema experience. The ending wasn't exactly my cup of tea but still well worth the watch

I enjoyed it too but that ending was just terrible. :P

    Especially
    how she killed the alien
, it was like something a child came up with!

At least it's left it open to a sequel though.

Was decent enough up til the end.

Well, after seeing this one, you know that I won't be going to see anymore awful DC films in theatres. The universe is building on poisoned ground now that may forever curse any potentially good movies for the time being.

Hey, I actually went to see Spy Kids and The Mummy Returns there, one year.

Hey, I actually went to see Spy Kids and The Mummy Returns there, one year.

I trained as a nurse in Sligo town, not to far south of Bundoran, the Costa Del Sol of the North West.
We used to bring our Service users there on holidays, the place was always wall to wall with Derry people!
But it was a mad mad place, like stepping back in time to what holidays in Ireland were like in the 70's!
I was similarly mad to have dragged my family to Bundoran on holidays back in '05....
    Jaysus on a bike...
Spent €2000 there in a week, most expensive kip resort I have ever been in!
And I barely touched drink, it was all on lousy food served on filthy oil cloth clothed tables and crap that the kids in the party just had to do.
My better half, Mrs Ciderman, wanted to buy a chair she had seen, but they had to order it in.
So we got the call in September that it was ready for collection so I took a solo road trip to Bundoran... from my house in North Co Dublin.... mad as I said.
Bundoran was like something from the scene of a post apocalyptic movie, not a sinner in the place, low grey skies and equally low grey people stalking the pavements....
Yeah, a kip wonderful place for all the family!

It is a bit sad seeing the fall of the old seaside towns like Bundoran, Tramore, etc that were such attractions back in the 80's.
Cheap flights to sunnier destinations i guess.

You'd be hard pressed to locate a less sunny destination tbh...
