It'll be more interesting when they produce a bundle with the console.
But I'd love to buy one, just won't be stung by another peripheral, after the joy of 2 Kinects and a trio of Sony camera devices, none of which lived up to their promises or their almost convincing video demonstrations.
I'll be waiting to see where things stand next year...
The Colecovision Virtua Noggin Cap anyone?

There's not a hope in hell this won't launch as a bundle with the camera. There'll be two SKU's I reckon, just the VR unit & then a bundle with the camera & possible the move controllers too. Sony always release 'starter kit' type things.

Having experienced the Rift (DK1), I know this is so far removed from Kinect & all that garbage. VR definitely has something to offer, the sense of immersion really has to be experienced to understand the colossal impact it has. I remember getting off the train at the start of Half Life 2 using the Rift, & for all intents and purposes, I was actually there in City 17. The sense of scale is something that a tv or monitor completely fails at in comparison to VR. When I got off the train in City 17, I could hear the announcer guy talking, & when I looked around to see him, the screen he was speaking on was HUGE, & so high and imposing...VR is a game changer where immersion is concerned. Personally I want it for sim/racing/cockpit games....VR in one of those is a whole different experience

Anyone know if it's compatible with the current PS4 Surround Sound headset? Looks like it comes bundled with those awful 'in-ear' headphones that look like they are designed for dolphins.

I don't see why not, assuming the PSVR doesn't use up all the USB ports and the band part of the headset sits under the headset, it should be fine. Any videos I've seen of folks using the VR they're all wearing normal looking headphones:

According to a Sony rep there will be a bundle with the PS4 Camera and a PS Move controller sold in North America at least:

The processing unit will only take up one USB, outputs 3D audio which I presume connects through a 3.5mm socket in the headset itself. Here's exactly what it does:

    Pic from the front:

    The contents of the box:

This pic shows the rear and front head on:

    Nicer pic of the rear:

They'll probably bring out a revision of the PS4 console with a USB port at the back I'd imagine.

Aren't there a lot of people who can't see in 3D? I definitely struggle with the movies although Dredd sort of worked. Might be the logistics of 3d glasses over normal glasses leaving things at the wrong distance. I've had a 3d television for 3 years haven't found an opportunity to use the feature yet.

I normally skip 3D screenings, but saw Zootropolis recently and the glasses they gave out for it in the Savoy were quite good for wearing over your actual glasses, the lens were sort of clipped in to the top of the frames so there was a bit of movement in them when you put them over your own glasses.

The glasses still make everything way too dark on screen though, so despite being slightly more comfortable to wear I can't see my self rushing back to see a 3D movie.

I've said it before, but Goodbye to Language is by a huge margin the only 3D film anybody needs to see. The film itself is pure 'late Godard' so many people will despise it (I ****ing loved it, but it took me two viewings to get a proper grasp on its incredibly abstract storytelling), but simply on a technical level the man's use of 3D is ingenious. It breaks every rule of 'clean' 3D cinematography, and is easily the most distinctively three dimensional film I've seen as a result. It's fascinating to behold, and features the single most brilliant piece of 3D trickery you're ever likely to see. Seriously, just as a study in the possibility and limitations of the technology it's well worth a watch if you have the capabilities.

A lot of the cinemas don't take the dark 3d lens off for the 2d screenings so you're still stuck with that downside. Wish they'd concentrate on picture and audio more in the cinemas near me otherwise you might as well torrent it.

VR can't be compared to 3D, 3D has images popping off the screen...VR puts you in the screen. Valid point though about if you can't see in 3D then VR will be something you can't enjoy. Though I'd say with some detailed config work, most people would be able to get something out of it.

Does anyone know if VR gives the same pop out effect 3D glasses do, or is it different as to how a close object looks?

One thing that concerns me about VR is how long it will be tolerable. I certainly can't see myself playing a long RPG wearing goggles, for practical, comfort and social reasons :pac: On the plus side, maybe that will encourage developers to make pacier, brisker experiences that benefit from shorter player times - something I'm inclined towards anyway. But then that leads to the concern that VR will take a while to break out of the 'tech demo' stage...

Personally I think that's a given. At this stage, it's sort of in tech demo yet playable game land. Within two to three years, if things go well at this early stage, I think we'll look back on the hardware from today & laugh, like we do with old phones etc. Again though, having tried it (DK1), as a concept it works beyond belief, & the possibilities are vast. The biggest let down for me was the pixelation of the DK1, something that will undoubtedly improve rapidly as tech evolves. The wires etc from it didn't bother me much at all, for me, it's key is in the visuals. If the retail units can eliminate the pixelation, it'll go a long way to convincing the masses.

I used the DK2 and the pixelisation was still a notable issue, and there was a decidedly blurry look to the images compared to the clarity of even just standard HD. I think it will remain so because screen technology simply isn't up to the screen being that magnified and so close to the player's eyes.

On a related note, looking forward to playing ADR1FT on a miserable 2D monitor at the end of the month, but can imagine it will be immense in VR!

Forget VR, hackers have found ways to remove the awful looking anti aliasing from some N64 games.

I have to say I found the DK1 stuff to have a very strong 3D effect, the pixelation lets it down but my brain was very much convinced there was stuff right in front of my head when there wasn't :D

A few months ago I mentioned the official Sony PS1 Emultator released for the PS2 which was leaked about 2 years ago called POPS_00001

It had serious limitations though like having 1 game on the HDD at a time, and only a few compatible games.

What I didn't realize at the time was a Launcher called POPStarter was released, which allows you to run multiple games from the HDD,
and the game compatibility list has being growing rapidly! :)

Finally it might be a good way of playing PS1 games on a PS2 without wearing out your laser.

Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice!!! I was reading about those just the other day! The much faster print time is a huge benefit with those. Well jealous!!!

Yeah, pricey yolks. Been weighing up the pros and cons of getting one for a while. But when the Form 2 came out it seems to fix a lot of what was putting me off.
The main issue isn't so much the initial price, that's a temporary pain. It's the ongoing costs of running it that had me holding back. A litre of normal printing material is about €127 euro(€153 inc VAT) and any of the special stuff is going to be €250 and up per litre. And you need to replace the print trays after ever 2-3 litres at a cost of €50-60 each(and you need a different print tray for every type of material you print with).
And thats not even getting into the post processing of prints that you have to do.

But, i think the end results will be worth it. I cant wait to do my first SLA Yoda :)

Yeah, the Form 2 is a good step up from the Form 1 and 1+.

That reminds me of some work I did recently relating to SLA, VC, CNC, DMLS etc. Complicated processes them, fascinating the things you can print these days. Pretty cool thing to have in your own gaff too. Nice! :)

DMLS!, now thats something I'd like to have in my own house, but we are probably a few years away from that :)

Anything interesting you were working on with it?
