    Are they 330ml or 500ml?
A review on amazon says they're only 330ml bottles.

Confirming they are all 500ml bottles

Anyone ever used Belgian Beer Factory?

They are based in Antwerp but ship to Ireland. Postage cost on anything up to 48 bottles is €12.
They stock 1400 varieties of predominantly Belgian beer.
I took the plunge and ordered a crate of Rochefort 10. Worked out at €3.30 a bottle. It's €5.80 a bottle in my local off license.
I'll let you know if the beer arrives.

Not sure what the beers are like but this seems good value

Got my delivery of these this morning. The drinking glass was smashed to pieces, all the beer is fine.Would be very annoying for anyone purchasing as a gift, but delivery driver delivered it upside down, even though the box clearly highlighted the way it was to be stored. Ahhh well, beer looks good !!

Got my delivery from amazon.de today, no extra charges.

Was in O'Briens on the Navan road the other day, €10 for 5 bottles of Spaten Oktoberfest.

Also bought a bottle of Teeling Single Malt for €45.

Edit: Just checked the O'Briens website, they're doing free delivery for cyber monday!

Thanks for the head up on O'Briens. New to craft beer so wanted just a few bottles to try out, and the delivery charge always put me off before.

If my mails are correct it was €40 for the 24 bottles of 500ml last year on groupon, its currently €35 for the same one through sim-buy directly or amazon.de Amazon are charging €14.95 for delivery so its a good bit more expensive alright at the €50 mark, sim-buy directly only seem to ship to Germany and Austria.

All the same €50 for 24 random German Weißbiers that you might struggle to find here in Ireland, €2.08 a bottle isn't a terrible price, although personally I think I'll hold out in the hope that it appears on Groupon again. Last year it was the 20th November that the offer appeared online so hopefully it will be the same again this year.

Had this delivered, great deal at 2.08€ a bottle delivered. Went looking for another but "out of stock" :(

Any sign of it appearing on groupon yet?

48 bottles arrived today from this place. All well packaged and no breakages.
They took a while and I never got any notification that they were shipped but given the cost of the beer I'll be using them again. However I have a pile of 11.4% Rochefort 10 to get through before I order again.

Rochefort 10 is probably my favourite of all the quads.
That's great value you've gotten there.

I used a site Belgian Happiness for my order as Westvletern 12 was a bit cheaper there. More expensive for delivery, but if you get a full box (which I did), there is a 10% discount-so Id say overall price wise is similar. Got a nice stash of lovely beers now to get me through Christmas and beyond.

7.95 is great value for the Westvletern 12.
I picked up a bottle for 15€ in an offie in Brussels a few months ago and brought it back to Ireland. I decided to do a blind taste test with the Rochefort 10. There isn't a huge difference between the 2 but the Rochefort 10 got my vote. My wife preferred the Westvletern 12. They are both lovely beers but in my opinion they are so similar that a 10€ price difference is not worth it. Still I might pick up a few at 7.95 (just to recheck ;-) )
    Cheers for tip.

Oh fcuk, link? Didn't know that could happen if shipped from the EU, not at all familiar with the laws of buying drink online though.

Unless the seller clears Irish duty - which sod all do - revenue seize and destroy. You can't pay the duty either.

Little got caught but I think too many are doing it now

They need to have a registered buiness in Ireland to sell here. So, large UK specialist drinks companies that charge close to irish prices for unusual products e.g. the whiskey exchangd, usually have a vat registration here.

Random mainland European shops are less likely to have an Irish base. But you can heck with them to be sure.

Ah that's all I bloody need! Thanks for the info anyways, hopefully they'll arrive but at least I'll know for again regardless.

I did pay through PayPal though so if the fault is on their end, it shouldn't leave me out of pocket, right?

    Someone else caught today...

I suspect a chargeback would work, as the seller is obliged to pay the Irish duty - I don't think even a disclaimer about telling you you're liable works as the customer is unable to pay it anyway.

What are the limits for purchasing drink online

    Zero.

It must be duty paid from the first drop. You can take it that a cheap site isnt duty paid

Got a box of 48 on monday. However a separate order of 12 was seized by customs. Didnt get any letter from customs but they arrived in athlone on monday and dpd informed me that customs seized them. Final destination was cork. I didnt realise there was an issue with ordering them since its ok to bring drink back on boat from france so I thought same applied. Should have done more research :-(
Thats the end of that so.

More than likely we'll see yet another shop with NO shipping to Ireland soon, I'm afraid.

  • Registered Users Posts: 28,403 ✭✭✭✭vicwatson

I was lucky I guess. Got 3 X 24 delivered and no probs

I'm in the same boat, we ordered 3 boxes and it has been seized also. Is there nothing we can do? Close to €90 quid down the drain?

Chargeback on the payment method. In future ensure that sites you use are actually tax cleared as getting further seizures would make Revenue minded towards bring a prosecution for smuggling.

Would getting these delivered via parcel motel/wizard reduce the risk of the revenue getting hold of it?

    No

Neither of them will accept them in the first place if its obviously alcohol, as neither will carry alcohol

Additionally, UK HMRC are probably more vigilant in the first place.

So whats the point of the EU then if customs can sieze delivered alcohol?
