They hardly need to be very fit for the type of protesters we've seen in these videos.

Under orders to crack a few skulls?

Oh give up. Every video posted has shown the garda acting peacefully.

Don't worry though. The protesters will have their phones to record their 30 second edited videos.

Under orders to crack a few skulls?

Who, the protestors or the Gardai

If the Gardai were of a mind to go cracking skulls, do you not think they'd have seized one of the plenty opportunities they've had up till now?

Why are you so hostile towards protesters? If the Gardai damaged someone's property they should have to replace it.

    But we're all pissed off.

It's just that some of us find more constructive ways of expressing our frustration - be that discussions online, or contacting our political representatives, or even by attending a public rally. Whatever.

In other words, things which do nothing to actually prevent something unjust from happening.

Not protestors it's a d1ckhead like in the video I'm hostile to protest all you want on the footpath and follow directions of the legal police force of the state not stand in front of a truck in the middle of the road thinking he's a hard man

What property did the Gardai damage?

Fact is, though, the unjust thing has already happened. The legislation was brought in, Irish Water was set up (God help us all), and water meters are happening.

Now, if you want to protest with a view to rolling back/rescinding one or more or all of those things, then doing it outside your neighbour's front gate ain't gonna get you very far. Those guys are just employed to fit a meter. Why take it out on them?

The march the other weekend seems to have rattled the Government rightly, and since it managed to pass off without being hijacked by the lunatic fringe (who always try to hijack these things), that seems to be the way to go. Here's hoping a similar sentiment prevails at the next one, and the next one after that if necessary.

Put pressure on the people who can actually change things. Paddy in his hi-vis with an arm stuck down a hole in the pavement isn't going to be able to do very much for you.

Under orders to crack a few skulls?

Read through most of your posts on this thread, and obviously the thread I started last week about these "protests".

    Some common themes emerge:

First, you have an axe to grind with the gardaí. I dunno if a cop once told you to stop kicking your ball on the street or something, but a grown man with attitudes like that towards the police is immature. Compared to other EU forces, the guards are angels. Their restraint seemingly knows no end.

Secondly, you have a hard-on for some kind of socialist "revolution" and allude to some form of 'overthrow' that's apparently bubbling under the surface. Ironically, socialist states have way higher taxes than Ireland and every single one of them have water charges. Careful what you wish for.

Finally, you either can't see whats right before your eyes or refuse to condemn it. So I'll spell it out AGAIN: The groups organizing these local protests are affiliated with several loony groups like Eirigí and the hard-left. Their policies are insane and read like something out of an angry teenagers manifesto posted on Tumblr.

If people are against the water meters then they can protest legally like they did the other week. This kind of carry on is childish and funnily enough is alienating normal people (who see this tripe for what it is) from the anti-water meter side.

What I have seen so far.
    Record mundane video.
Give it a an inflammatory title.
    Post it online.
Sit and wait for the arguments to begin.

lad who recorded the video seem to have been permitted to walk through the barrier unimpeded. While I don't agree with these new water charges. That ship has sailed and the wheels have been set in motion.

It's not unusual to see republican branded clothing at these protests or ones organized by the same people.

Another group which seems to be enjoying a growth spurt lately is 32 County Sovereignty Movement (32CSM). AFAIK they're actually listed as a terrorist organisation by many nations because of links with R/CIRA. Seen their hoodies being worn at protests affiliated with Eirigi.

Dundalk and Drogheda protests have a definite link to extreme republicans. In Dublin, Eirigi seem to be playing tag along to DSN but many members belong to multiple groups so it's hard to know who you're throwing your lot in with.

Attending organized protests, and making representations to politicians are actions that are a lot more effective than the taunting Gardaí and ordinary workers.

How's that working out? Remind me.

And just what makes you think its a Eirigi coat?

Didnt realise they had branched out into retail, please could you explain why you think his coat is from their retail store?

Or are you just shouting out any old rubbish about protestors so you can get a few likes despite there being no truth in your claim what so ever?

Gardai and sick child... I've a personal positive experience!

It was around time of the queens visit to Cork... Rush hour traffic backed up airport hill.. My little boy then two years old was in the back of my car very ill with my wife minding him..

I stopped and asked a Garda at the side of the road ( they seemed to be inspecting the route the queen would take ) if I could use the bus lane to get to A&E . He immediately radioed for a Garda escort! We flew through the backed up traffic.. When we arrived at CUH A&E the Gardai hopped out of their van and told us to leave our car outside the main entrance and not to worry.. Just get our child inside. They took our car keys to park our car!!!!! Two Gardai followed us in a few mins later with keys and to check on our small fellow and to say they parked outside and spoke with carpark security so we wouldn't get clamped etc.

They couldn't have done more to be honest.. When I said "sick child" at the side of the road they reacted instantly.. and got us to A&E in a very short period of time.

Years on and I'm still impressed and very thankful.

Sorry for the thread hijack.. but had to share my experience after reading the start of this thread...I really do find it hard to believe any Garda would stop a sick child/person getting to seek medical attention.

Have to say had a similar experience - 2 day old versus shelf (thankfully missed his head). We were in a panic, came across a roadblock. They took me and baby into their 4 x 4, lights flashing, siren going with my hubbie in our fiat punto behind us trying to keep up and flew us into Temple street. Helped me get in and out of the car (as was 2 days post birth) and held baby for me - couldn't have been any more helpful.
