I ranked up to eagle in solo queue yesterday. I don't think I've gotten any better. I think its due to the vac bans.

I barely even play the game and I'm Guardian Elite or something. I don't know what way the rankings work but I'm guessing its above average. I can't understand the life of me how I got there. I won 10 competitive games (lost 1/11) bottom (or near bottom) in k/d/a every game and now I'm stuck in this pool that I'm probably hitting well above my weight...

Is there decent match making in this? It's been years since i played, but wouldn't mind giving it a go again. Just don't fancy playing people that are insanely good till i at least remember the basics.

Yes there is, but as I said my rank doesn't feel justified to how I actually play...

It will probably be fine based on solo kiith. You'll hit the right rank in a while cherry.

The worst is queuing with people of different skill, it way over compensates on the other team. Generally If I play with friends everybody is gonna have a bad time due to this so it's not really fair to.

Played two games late there Sat night. Joined a friend and his friend, and think it was like casual matchmaking, so wasn't ranked. But damn,

Two games, two blatant instances of cheating, and second game opponent was kicked due to something VAC message.

Kinda remembered why I was hesitant putting time into the game. Granted its obviously not going to be every game, but two games and two instances of cheating was horrendous. If thats rampant through matchmaking won't bother.

Was inevitably rust as ****, but some frustration with reg as well. Don't know if its a thing in GO like CS of old. But some instances of clearly putting rounds on target for the game to report I didn't hit anything.

Yeah I think they changed it a few months ago, used to play with some silver friends and would usually get ranked against other silver etc, now if i play with them we are always against smfc, lems etc.

But I'm still winning games despite bringing nothing. Is the skill level based on wins/loss ratio or what? I'm not sure at all how it works.

With a lot of guns in CS:GO you have to aim where the bullet spray is going, not necessarily where the sights are aimed at. P90 for example, you have to aim nearly at their feet to kill them accurately with a spray.

    If that makes sense...

To counteract cheating tehy changed hit detection from client to server side. This means that things like hits and blood you see on your client aren't always what the server sees. This compounded with the natural variation in a shot (your shot goes in a box where you aim, not exactly where you aim) leads to people blaming the game, but it's the same for everybody and is to stop a lot of cheats so I find it fine.

Nobody knows for sure but it can be based on bomb planting, MVPS, wins/losses, assists etc, not just pure kills anyway. As long as you keep winning the game will see you as constructive to the win. For instance in CS it is often the person who makes the calls that gets the worst amount of kills. It could be that somebody is a great fragger but is placed worse than somebody who is a great communicator and works with their team.

Ah yeah I get that part. Was quickly able to see the recoil pattern on the M4 and AK and am getting comfortable already with the M4. But I mean like the first 2-3 rounds clearly at centre mass, and then the game telling me I didn't hit anything, annoying as ****.

Played two more ranked games last night, first game had a blatant aimbotter who made three people on my team leave, so me and second last fella just surrendered.

    Second game more blatant wallhacks.

So basically every game I've played has had a blatant cheater. That's really enjoyable......

Going to try stick it out a little bit more, and a good few friends are starting to pick back up CSGO so might just play premades.

I come across definite cheater in roughly 1/50 games. You are getting extremely unlucky.

Also hate to be that guy, but stop blaming your missed shots on the game rather than yourself :pac: That's no way to improve.

I believe that if you surrender it counts as double the loss for you, giving you double the negative invisible points towards your rank.

    Is that true?

Impossible to say either way. Valve have never released how their matchmaking works and never will to prevent people attempting to game the system.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,148 ✭✭✭✭Lemming

Edumacated guess I know, but I've never had the impression from valve that a surrender was double-negative score. Nor do I particularly think it makes sense to penalise for surrender in such a fashion. After all, a loss is a loss is a loss at the end of the day whether you surrender, loose, quit or get kicked. The only additional penalty on top of any of the above being that if you quit you also get a cooldown penalty.

As far as I can tell it doesn't happen, probably better to surrender than have your score hammered if somebody leaves and its going to be 16-0.

  • Registered Users Posts: 23,137 ✭✭✭✭TheDoc

To be perfectly honest, I'm not expecting miracles for a fair bit, if I can actually continue to play ranked. I'll get to a point where I'm at a decent level then I'll move up the ranks, until I hit the next block and then need to improve etc.

After going through LoL solo queue for so long, have absolutely no reservations for how this will work. I'm hoping that the cheater thing is very much down to my bad luck, and the fact I'm going through placement matches so I'll be in with a high portion of new accounts, smurfs and all that jazz.

In reality I won't have a lot of time to invest in the solo queue due to WoW and other stuff, so I'm more concerned with going into matches and having a proper match, rather then dealing with hackers and cheaters etc :)

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 60,086 Mod ✭✭✭✭Tar.Aldarion

Most of the cheaters are at the bottom and top, so yeah you are probably seeing more due to your placement matches.

When I last played I was GN3. Took a break from competitive for a while. Lost my rank, came back 2 weeks ago and 4 games later I'm Master Guardian. GG Volvo.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,798 ✭✭✭MiskyBoyy

    Volvo.

I swear this game has gotten easier. I'm holding my own at LE when I used to struggle at DMG. People aren't making those near instant headshots any more. I wonder was I always playing against subtle cheaters without realising.

There have been a lot of VAC bans which has freed up the upper ranks as far as I know. So you might have noticed it's easier to rank up after these ban waves occur. As a consequence, a lot of previously lower tier players now have a higher rank.

You hear about it a lot on: http://www.reddit.com/r/GlobalOffensive

    About the hitbox problem:

Won't hold my breath. The hitbox issue has been raised ever since the beta and nothing has changed.

I wonder how many people are actually working on csgo. It must be raking in the cash since the skins update. I'd love to see some of their spaghetti code. The funniest bug was that scout bug where if you were crouching and scoped, and someone else crouched anywhere else on the map, you would move at full running speed. Like.... how do those two things relate? Incredible!

Big update. No balance fixes though. Is altering hit-boxes that hard?

Jumping onto to a ladder still completely messes up your hitbox: http://gfycat.com/DefensiveSpeedyAstrangiacoral
