I assumed O'Sullivan won't be seen outside of a Kerry Junior B match after his last display, god only knows though

Yeah I'd imagine much like Martin Sludden he should slip slowly into oblivion - he's only 40 so I suppose if he does his act of contrition there's 10 years of IC refereeing left for him. In fairness to Sludden he held his hand up and admitted to a "terrible mistake", the fact that his actions had far more reaching consequences were his utter demise - O'Sullivans on the other hand to me at least were a little bit more refined than just a terrible mistake

It wouldn't be the biggest surprise in the world if the said Padraig was appointed for the final, with Paudie Hughes and Maurice Deegan as his linesmen. He will of course bring his own goats as umpires. Could Dublin or Mayo handle that?

It would be a huge surprise as it would mean a Kerryman as ref when Kerry are playing!! But then again Uncle Joe could be appointed if the Dubs are playing...

Who does Ciaran Whelan think he's fooling trying to make excuses for the carry on by Dublin players today.

It's a gas listening to Tomas O'Se pontificating about players needing to keep their discipline.

O'Se has no right to be on the panel in a flagship programme like the Sunday Game. Shouldn't be there.

That's harsh. Do you think the same of Ciaran Whelan (presuming you're referring to O'Se being a dirty player)?

The double standard is appalling. A big song and dance about McMahon touching AOS with his head. COC punches ROC forcing him off but gets MOTM.

Them is top analysts for sure.
Nobody saw Small pick the ball off the ground in the square after Cluxtons fooo paaw.

O'Se was overly dirty though even within the parameters of Gaeilic Football. He's just not someone RTE should be employing to pontificate about the game. You'd imagine some thought would be put into it when choosing who they have as panelists.

If he did pick it off the ground it would be a free in rather than a penalty anyway even when inside the square.

The fact that Hennelly didn't go mad after it would indicate it was probably over the bar.

Camera angles sometime can be deceiving (remember the goal in the Limerick Westmeath hurling match earlier this year)

    +1

Philly McMahon was no angel out there today, but did his man leave the pitch concussed, with blood pouring from a head wound that needed 10 stitches?

    Answers on postcard !

I Sky plussed the **** of that. It was a point.

I'm neutral (well who's truly neutral) but the O'Connor incident looked accidental.

    Thought the same.

For Bernard Brogans point after the goal, are you allowed switch hands if you do it by hopping the ball? I didn't think you could?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,646 ✭✭✭washman3

    It was a point.!
Hawkeye monitors each and every shot on goal.
If the ball went wide and umpire waved a point the refs attention would be drawn to it immediately via his ear-piece.
Camera angles from the stand or even behind the goal, especially in Croker, are very deceiving.

Yes you are allowed. Cant switch the ball from one hand to the other during a solo run. What Brogan did was actually a great piece of skill. The Gooch is a master at it.

Was a point, looking at the replay initially thought it was heading well wide but it dropped in right at the last moment.

Accidental wouldn't be a defence if it was seen by an official. Straight red.
Player cannot swing an arm like that, regardless of whether he's being dragged or not.

Never knew. Agreed so, serious skill to get away from the defender.

It's throwing the ball from one hand to the other that's disallowed. I remember when Owen Mulligan scored THAT goal there was a bit of speculation that he fouled the ball when he was throwing the dummies, but he was keeping a hand on the ball all the time.

True.! Tomas O'Se spoke about that previously as the best goal he's ever seen scored. A masterclass from Mulligan.

Yeah I never understood those complaints about Mulligan's goal, they were textbook dummies.

That's news to me. He certainly picked it off the ground about a yard or two from the goal line. Tell me where the free in should be taken from?

Sorry you are right if it was inside the small square, it is ok inside the bigger square. If he did pick it off the ground inside the square fair enough I stand corrected.

    From the 14 yard line.

A technical foul inside the small parallelogram is a penalty. A technical foul inside the large parallelogram is a 13 metre free.

    What nonsense.
The only reason he should or shouldn't be there should be based on the quality of his analysis.
As for talking about discipline, well then he would know better than most the cost to himself and his team of ill discipline.
