Only the ones with houses worth over £400,000. If their house is worth millions they only pay the same as the person with a house worth £400,000. I have been better off up till recently paying just bins around €270 and even now with property tax compared to the Nordies with those shocking rates. No water charges yet.

Are you sure that the NHS is paid for from domectic rates?

Well, if this is anything to go on......
    Your rates bill

Your rates bill is made up of two parts:

District rateThe district rate is fixed annually by individual councils and is used to pay for services such as bin collections, recycling and waste disposal, leisure services, street cleaning and parks.

Regional rateThe regional rate is set by central government and is used to pay for services such as roads, education and health.

Except if you subtract USC, water tax, Property tax, household charge.

    and add

medical care and prescriptions. And free bins

Its a better deal up there in the north . Would you disagree? Or are you a blind FF FG voter.

Whatever you say. SF taxation is all good, people get loads of stuff. Any other party taxation is austerity on the ordinary people.

FG's share of the vote has dropped in every constituency.
SF's share of the vote has risen in every constituency.

Labour have 45 seats so far and SF have 141.

Now that speaks volumes. The Govt fell asleep at the wheel. They are supposed to serve the people not visa versa.

Agreed, and its beyond belief that they come out with this guff that they now realise how angry and disaffected the electorate are ! What planet have they been on for the past 3 years ?? These elections will prove a watershed in Irish politics for years to come - the FG/Labour (if they survive the remainder of their term) will need a root and branch review of their policies and their Ministers - a lot of dead wood there , needs to be pruned in a bad way !
The one question is the silent 50%, who didnt vote this time round, which way will they go next time round at a General Election? Will they abstain again, improve the SF result or have a deep think about what a SF led or coalition government would mean for us ??

    Point?

That just like the the good folk of England, Scotland and Wales subsidise their sparsely populated neighbours, we do to.

Indeed. How many times I heard "you will get a chance at the next elections" sneered at every opportunity. Blinded by their own short sightedness.

Kenny himself admits it's time to reevaluate things. Too little too late Enda.

Their will be a general election before they make it full term. Guaranteed.
    Before April 2016? Probably.
So that makes us triple taxation payers?

We have income tax, vat, usc
    Property tax
    Water tax
    Health/gp charges
    Refuse charges
    Etc etc etc

Nordies are on to a winner tbh
Be nice to live on someone else's money alright.

Do you expect that Northern Ireland would be subsidising their sparsely populated neighbours in the south if the island were united?

It's not like a government would ever mislead anybody about anything. The massive deficit they have must just appear by magic somehow since they pay for everything apparently.

Do you dispute that Dublin (or other) LPT homeowners subsidise less populated counties?

Belfast City councils website is lying.

    You heard it here first.

    Unbelievable.

No one is..... You are avoiding the point.

You stated that NI have it better than we do.

I think that if Ireland received a €20 billion annual gift from a sugar-daddy things would be better here.

So comparing NI to ROI us pointless as the rules are different.

    Why would I?
If you're going to rely on population density though surely with 4 of the 7 most densely populated counties on the island being in NI they'll have to help Dublin with subsidising everywhere else.

I wonder did Gerry ever read it. It says domestic rates are a property tax based on the value of a house. Gerry says there is no property tax in the North.

On a different subject I wonder what is the rule in the European Parliament about MEP's giving their salary to their party. The donations are supposed to be declared by TD's and Senators here but they appear not to have been by SF.

I still remain to be convinced that if therev wernt glaring mistakes thatbthe dept/govt wouldn't take pleasure in letting the whole country know

I would like to see this jobs policy you are quoting...is it 20+ years old??

I would suggest you study there new policies/leaflet...ive nebver seen anything like that

This smacks of mass state involvement:

    http://www.rte.ie/news/2012/1011/341226-sinn-fein-job-creation-plan/

Insulating all schools, more building all state created jobs.

Does Northern Ireland's taxation cover Northern Ireland's government expenditure?

I don't believe it does, but what does that mean for all the northern based companies paying tax into the UK central fund pot?

Maybe taxes raised in the north should be retained in the north?

    Spurious argument.

Regardless of party allegiances, I think it's quite positive to see so many women not only putting themselves out there politically, but doing so well.

I for one voted Sinn Féin, I have been very happy today, not least, because SF candidates have done so well, but some of my own personal political enemies have lost seats.

We need more change, co-opting is gone. Thankfully, a lot of the causalities yesterday and today were co-opted ie never voted for.

FF are placing candidates now with the express intention of moving them to National ~ so watch that SF.

\my own ward did return an SF candidate, and as a man well deserved, but we have two FFs which has out maneuvered us.

So we must rally like mad lads, Martin has positioned us to lose, he is too clever, we need voters to commit now.

Totally ignore Sinn Féin success today, too many are banking on our failure, we have won a tactical victory controlled by our enemies, we've won nothing.

    Be warned.

The sum total of NI taxes don't come close to paying for NI.

The ROI government lacks an equally generous sugar-daddy.

    But that's spurious apparently?
