    B0llox.

City and maybe Chelsea yeah - though chelsea are crap up top - but we don't have a team to compete with LIVERPOOL? FECK OFF.

Player for player they are not better than our team. I would take our keeper and defenders. Suarez is world class and sturridge is having a great season - but we have Rooney and RVP (backed up by Welbeck and Chico - better than Aspas and....)

Liverpool have utterly outperformed us this season, obviously, and are playing much better football than us, obviously. They are clearly a better side - but that isn't down to squad quality, imo - it is down to a coach actually getting the best out of his players - something Moyes has failed to do with the vast majority. A United side playing to potential is as good/better than the liverpool side playing to potential, imo. Even if you argue livrerpool are better (when both playing to potential), and I will take that argument as having merit, there is no fecking they are nearly 30 points better than us.

Rodgers is the difference, imo. His attitude and coaching, in comparison to Moyes' fearful underdog and fitness work.

United have been abysmal in the league - that isn't because we have a completely useless squad - it is because we have been completely useless under Moyes.

I would agree (and have said) I don't think this team/squad is good enough to win the league - but we shouldn't be languishing so far outside the CL places, that is a disgrace and an indictment of the performances of the players and manager.

Best away record in the league - brilliant - pitty there is 'too much expectation' at Old Trafford, eh? Pity we have been too 'gung-ho' at Old Trafford, costing us those wins we deserved - but those 22 goals at home weren't scored with boring, predicatable, conservative, crap football.

The thing is, football is cyclical. United have been exceptionally lucky to have been close to the top of the domestic game for so long. Eventually every fan, surely, had to accept that a period would arrive when things don't go so well.
The key bit for the club is to ensure that downward curve doesn't last too long. "Too long" is a relative term I suppose. Ask fans of Liverpool, City, Chelsea, Notts Forrest, Leeds etc etc how long "too long" can be. Ask fans of clubs who have never won any major silverware how long "too long" is....

A few years is nothing, really, it isn't. Right now the squad is stronger than it was this time last year. There are some major changes due in the summer with key players leaving and hopefully some major players arriving. It might take a while to get all that sorted and geled, no matter who the manager.
A few years is nothing and football is fleeting.
All you have to do is fast forward a few months when the winners of this years PL will almost be forgotten about and the whole thing begins again.

Patience and a bit of context is required.

Mata was a bit player in the eyes of Jose Mourinho.
Jose Mourinho is one of the greatest football coaches of the modern era.
    Thats good enough for me.
If United want to spend 40m on him, thats their business.
He is a good addition to a limited squad. No more, no less IMO.
Have you forgotten he was player of the season twice in a row for Chelsea and once Mourinho came on the scene he either played him out of position or dropped him to the bench.

Mourinho has alot of plasters pasted over the cracks this season at Chelsea and his credibility as a manger in my view has been tarnished somewhat, with his nonsense outbursts etc.. He throws money around like **** and will end up moving on in a year or two if his 'toys get thrown out of the pram'

Everybody thought Leighton Baines would make the "step-up" last summer to United, playing in the CL, challenging for trophies etc.

    But he wanted to stay.

Did he know something ??! He did work with Moyes for quite a long time.

    just to be perfectly clear
i certainly do not want united to fail.
but i am so certain that moyes will never guide the club to success (league / CL titles) that i want him out now ASAP
every day he spends at the club is a waste
and every pound he spends in the transfer market is a waste
so if united need to 'fail' this year, lets hope its a miserable failure and Moyes is quickly replaced

So i presume even though we have a chance going into the second leg of the quarters you hope like you did last week that we get hammered?

Am I the only one who thinks Mata at £37M was a steal?

    Still can't believe it tbh

I still can't believe that we spent £37 million and didn't address the biggest actual problem with the team, but thats just me.

And many woud have him managing us in the morning if given the chance.

How any manager can have a 'system' which can't fit in a player like Juan Mata is beyond me*.

*I know I'm opening myself right up here as Moyes has not got 100% out of Mata just yet and has played him wide, but I think the beginning of next season is when we will see exactly where we are going in terms of Mata/Rooney/rvp/Kagawa/Januzaj/Welbeck/Hernandez etc and how they will be fit together and who will still be at the club.
The correct Defensive and Midfield signings will give us more flexibility in how we play further up the pitch

It was a case of get him now as he became available and then address the actual issues later. Van Persie was bought with the same attitude, not needed but the fact he was so instrumental in winning the league that first year made it money well spent. Mata next season for me will prove a great buy, coupled with the other purchases this summer.

Right to start, I am also not a fan of Moyes based on how the season has gone and am more in the Moyes out side of things but..

I am not certain he will never guide United to success, neither are you, no one is.

Also regarding every pound he spends is a waste, I'm delighted with the purchase of Juan Mata, any world class player is welcome at the club and I'm sure he'll turn out brilliantly, while I'm not happy with the league performance regarding Moyes, the players he and United are linked with are exciting. If United signed Shaw, Reus and Carvalho for example, would you call it a waste?

If United win all their remaining games and give Bayern a good go on Wednesday, would that give you something to start believing?

It would give me something to believe in anyway, I want Moyes and United to succeed, of course I am not happy with how things have gone but if I do see progression, then I've no problem in getting behind Moyes and the team and I do hope for progression, we all do.

You now almost seem like you have a personal disliking to Moyes, too stubborn that if United were to win the Champions League that you would still want Moyes out..

I have no doubt he will be a successful buy, but that will be of little comfort when you see the likes of Giggs or Cleverley named to start on Wednesday night.

Its not a joke. Im new here sorry. The poster was complaining that giigs will start I thought.
And as opposed to a joke being funny nobody really has durisdiction to say what is funny or not. Its a little thing that annoys me when people claim to know what people can laugh at or not.
Please dont threaten to bash peoples heads in it makes me a bit uneasy. If everyone is a bit uneasy nobody is really having fun unless ofcourse they get a kick out of being uneasy. I dont.

Giggs is in his last season I am sure and I am convinced the MF issues are going to be sorted finally this summer. Cleverley is not a bad backup player, but should never have been a definite starter. When the choices for central MF were Giggs, Cleverley, Fletcher and Carrick it shows the level of fail that had occurred transfer window after transfer window. At least Moyes tried to address this last summer, and I am convinced the failings were with Woodward that time. Even the last minute purchase of Fellaini reeked of indecision and was an embarrassment for the club. I expect better next time, however I am not convinced as others are that it will be Moyes in charge.

I agree that this 'Joke' is not funny as it has been here so many times, but also understand if you were unaware and were being genuine.

I don't agree that he should threaten to ' bash your head in' but take it with a pinch of salt :P

I was going to complain about the 'joke' also, but understand where your coming from.

Wlecome to the thread. If you find my comment offensive, unfortunately, you're in for a wild ride on an internet forum. I, however, apologise.

    Things you should know:

    1. Shinji is the Lord God of all that is good and Holy. He was, is and for ever shall be, the savior of Manchester United

    2. On the 6th day, homerjay2005 left us for places unknown. It is said you can hear his voice echo through the GAA forums.

    3. Headshot is negative by nature and after 40,000 posts won't be changing anytime soon

    4. There is a special dugout in this thread formed by TheDoc for all the positive people.

    5. Tom Cleverly can't play football.

    6. Depending on the season, day of the week or even hour of the day, one of the following players is always responsible for your bad experiences: Nani, Valencia, Welbeck, Young, Evra or Fellaini

    7. Michael Carrick was/is a great midfielder.

    8. Juan Mata is the new Berbatov when it comes to sexy mancrush time.

What exactly is your point here, it doesn't seem to parse well?

I referenced the utterly pathetic state of our midfield options and you respond by talking about Mata and being cup tied, would you like to clarify?

You said mata may be a good signing but you arnt happy with giggs being selected. I thought it was a dig at the selection policy.
I think giggs was chosen because he would be experienced enough to do the defensive job and have good enough vision to release welbeck. He wasnt too bad in fairness over the 45 minutes all parts of his game included. Kagawa is fighting to get in the team now and when he came on knew his role. Its not all about a sexy one touch pass.
I think thats a credit to Moyes and Kagawa.
I had a feeling Alex had lost interest in him.

Hey Mitch, I'm always happy to debate points with a smart poster.

Keep in mind that Rogers has had an extra season as manager and used that year to instill his way of doing things at the club. They ended up 7th last year. Moyes is still in that phase. If United are langushing in 7th this time next year, then we might have a different chat, but right now, with 5 games left and a QF in the CL, I say we just look at the good things and see if a good transfer window will help things out next year.

Our home record hasn't been great, and Moyes clearly made some truly dreadful errors in a number of games which turned wins into draws and draws into defeat, but he is finding his way.

I'm liking what I am seeing from Moyes in the last 6 weeks to be honest. He has shown he has a better idea of who to bring on more than he did earlier in the seson (for the most part). He was even annoyed at the end of the Bayern match as opposed to celebrating a goal against Fulham as if it was the league-winning goal.

It's like this...he won't be sacked. He'll get next season at least unless there is a catastrophic drop in results compared to this year. I can either spend every day hating the fact we are languishing in 7th or I can focus on the good, like the Bayern tie, the excellent away form and the fact that United are playing some really nice football since Van Persie suffered that injury. I'm hoping that he now realises that we are capable of some great results when more players are playing in their preferred positions. He is our manager for 10 months. He was given a poor squad and he has already addressed the midfield issue. Twice. He seems to have spotted the weaknesses and apparently has a war chest to use. Let's see who we bring in over the summer eh?

Can't wait for Wednesday. We have a great chance...

No, it was referencing the fact that despite our horrific midfield options we once again did not address the problems but instead spent £37m on a player we didn't even need.

I'm not happy with Giggs being selected, not because its Giggs per se, but because we shouldn't have to be deciding between Giggs and Cleverley at all. Surely a well funded scouting team with £37million to spend should have been able to find some half decent midfielder willing to play for us?

They didn't, and here we are. So, Giggs or Cleverley for Wednesday night?
