We start this thread with a match against Liverpool, our likely dismissal from the Champions League and then City.

Yeap, this thread is going to start well :P

Dunno if it was mentioned near the end of the last thread or not, but just saw this on Sky, Kroos says Premier League is a possibility, and won't rule out United simply for not qualifying for champions league.

More than likely just angling for better deal with Bayern, but with RVP and Mata signing in last few years I have become more optimistic about our transfer dealings

A truly appalling chant. It's sung so fast that it comes across as annoying.

I prefer the "We're not gonna win the league, we're not gonna win a cup, we're Man United and we don't give a ****" chant :pac:

Haven't posted here in a while, but anyway.

Cautiously optimistic about Fellaini after yesterday, showed some good passing and nice touches as well as looking decent defensively.

Wouldn't hold out too much hope for Kroos, Bayern would be foolish to let him go. I think the Mata deal has skewed some people's expectations, most likely he is angling for a better deal.

Not sure what the clubs the end of season ambitions are now, can't see us getting fourth at this stage. Still a decent run of form and possibly a win against Liverpool would be nice.

And its secondary function as the Liverpool overflow thread

It's only a matter of time before someone decides to debate Moyes v Rodgers, hook in Martinez at Everton too, for good emasure obviously, and derail the entire thread and it's no mod warning glory.

On the topic of United; Fellaini had a great game against WBA. He should start every game now alongside either Carrick or Fletcher for rotation. Cleverly is done and dusted now. Hopefully he can be sold off and have his England caps used to get a good return on him.

I don't like Smalling as first choice CB. I would rather have Jones and Evans playing CB, with Rafael and a new LB coming in during the summer. Ideally I'd pair an established CB with Jones or Evans, but if Moyes & Co. don't go spending then Jones and Evans would suit me fine.
RVP need time on the bench. The difference Dizzy Welbz made coming on compared to how hot headed RVP played was insane. I would love to see the following team.
    DeGea
    Rafael - Evans - Jones - Evra
    Carrick/Fletcher - Fellaini
    Mata - Kagawa - Januzaj
    Rooney

You said in closed thread that lot of work is being done in Transfer market for summer.

    Have you heard any names?

    Have you heard any names?

Heard we have started talks with one player and his club - there could be more, but heard one name actually stated.

One of the players we have been linked with from Portugal.

Wouldn't be disappointed with him - not the answer to our problems, but possibly the long term answer to one.

EDIT: Also - the paper talk that United want deals done BEFORE the world cup is being back up by the sources of the people who feed me tidbits of info. I would be surprised if there aren't a couple of deals officially done before the World Cup starts.

RVP signed when United were in the CL and Fergie was there.

Mata one was a little strange, did anyone other club want him?

Kroos is one of the top midfielders in Europe, CL is a must for him to even consider a club I would imagine.

champions league is never a must for most players....money talks and if you pay any player ridiculous wages you will have a good chance to sign them... united are offering kroos 250k a week. bayerns current offer is half that

I would imagine if United could sell him that we will only be out of the CL for one season it could be fine - and I think that is what United will be doing - telling all their targets who all the targets are, to show the team they will be a part of, not the team they are seeing now.

I would imagine the same conversation will have been had with Rooney (was report as such) and Mata.

City signed some very good players before they got CL football - they were sold on the 'project' (and the money). That is what United will have to do, what I believe they are planning to do - whether they pull it off is another matter.

Kroos is not coming here. Bayern will reach a deal with him.

nothing new there anyway, most clubs would like business done before the world cup, you get players at a better price and most players take holidays after the world cup so harder to buy them

all the strootman followers will be disappointed now as it looks like he did his cruciate on sunday and will be out for 6-8 months..

Indeed - but I believe United are actively working right now to get them done - not waiting til the summer to get started (part of the problem last summer).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,551 ✭✭✭✭Utopia Parkway

The Kroos quotes just seem like the typical "hurry up and sort out my contract" stuff you get out of players all the time. No doubt him and his agent will continue making flirty eyes at half the big clubs in Europe until he gets what he wants.

yes well last summer was a total disaster with both fergie and david gill leaving the club at the same time. no potential transfer list was drawn up but now they know exactly what players to pursue and which positions need strengthening...

I like all the noises Kroos is making but I still think he is playing Bayern for a bigger contract, on the other hand I would not be one bit surprised if he signed for united come summer

Moyes said from the begining he wanted a CM and actively tried for a LB, the shambles was that it was left to Woodward to sort it out.

Really crap news. I was really looking forward to seeing him in the World Cup.

Huge loss to Roma. Napoli will be delighted.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,071 ✭✭✭user2011

Was watching the Napoli/Roma game last night, don't know why they let Strootman back on the pitch it was pretty clear it was a serious injury. The Roma manager was pissed like it was a bad challenge was nothing more then shoulder too shoulder and his knee gave out when he tried to stay up.

For any prospective signings, signing for United now is a challenge, a project to be part of, the new era where a new team is to be built around players of the ilk of Rooney (probably as captain), Mata, Januzaj, Kagawa (hopefully), Fellaini, de Gea, Jones, Smalling etc.

That might well appeal to an awful lot of players, an opportunity to create a massive legacy and be part of a job right from the start...not to mention that and the big wedge of cash they'll be offered.

Take Kroos for example, it might well be an option for him to resign for Bayern and continue on with more of the same or he could sign for Barca or Real or someone with a ready made CL challenging team where he just slots in and they continue on as they have been.

OR he could come to us, be that defining player, make the difference in ushering in a new era of success returning United to the pinnacle of European soccer...that sort of challenge will appeal to these players egos.

I would have to say the Kroos thing though looks to be just posturing to get that contract he wants at Bayern, he'll stay there in all likelihood

It's not like Kroos is the only option though. Vidal, Gundogan or Pjanic would also be excellent for us.

Surely we can get at least 1 of them.

    would love him at LFC
