My sister is due to sail out of dublin port on the first stena line crossing. The 1:30pm has been cancelled out of dun laoghaire. Does that mean the 8am one will still sail??

Very windy tonight with gusts generally of about 100km/h but some damaging gusts of over 130km/h are likely. Also some coastal flooding is possible along parts of the south, west and northwest coasts (high tides and high seas).
Rather cold with a mixture of clear spells and heavy showers of rain and hail and a risk of isolated thunderstorms. Lowest temperatures 2 to 5 degrees.


Tomorrow

Continuing very windy Friday morning with further severe gusts and especially stormy in northern parts Friday morning with prolonged squally showers. The high winds will gradually abate Friday afternoon.
A cool day with a mixture of sunny spells and heavy downpours and highest temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees.

Outlook

Unsettled and changeable weather is expected.

Friday night : Windy and blustery to start the night, but the winds will decrease a good deal overnight. A cold night in store, with a mixture of clear spells and scattered showers, some of these of hail, with a little sleet on high ground. Lowest temperatures of plus 1 to -1 C., with a sharp to severe frost and some icy patches.

Saturday: Frost and ice clearing, to give a cold, bright day, with a mixture of sunny spells and showers. Some of these showers will be heavy and of hail, with a little sleet possible on high ground, There may be a few scattered thunderstorms also. Highs of just 4 to 7 C., expected. Winds moderate to fresh southwesterly but could be blustery in any thundery downpours. Cold on Saturday night, with a sharp to severe frost and icy roads. Strengthening southeast winds late in the night, may clear the frost from Munster, before dawn on Sunday.

Sunday and Monday : Very wet and windy weather will sweep up from the southwest during Sunday morning. Winds will veer south to southwesterly and will be strong to gale force, with some severe gusts likely in exposed places. The heavy rain should give way to occasional blustery showers by nightfall. It will stay very blustery overnight and for Monday with occasional heavy showers in places. There is a risk of some spot flooding and also some coastal flooding on Atlantic coasts, as tides and seas will be high.
Tuesday and Wednesday : The trend is for winds to moderate, with bright or sunny spells expected each day, but still some showers in places at times also. The nights will be cold, with frost and icy patches likely to develop.

Why are they in disaster mode in Belfast and most of the UK , while we here in the Republic and doing nothing . Sky new now . Is it not going to hit us first , if so should,nt:mad: our government be more hands on and inform the people as to the severity of this storm

The storm is not that severe its just that tides are high at the same time as the storm and theres not much else news going on ......

Anyway winds starting to pick up here in Galway in last half hour or so

A lot of the Irish coastline facing the Atlantic is protected by high cliffs, it's not as widely vulernable to tidal flooding.

Well it seems full warning been put out in the Uk , And the government meeting with there tack force ( forget what they call it ) . And to be fair Hooter23 it looks pretty bad already in cork city and county . And getting very wet and windy here in south Kerry where i am :eek:

That point is true , and hopefully all will be ok . But they are saying 60/70ft tidal surges :eek::eek: for Sunday night Monday morning

Starting to get rough just outside Newport in Mayo now, some strong gusts hit fairly quickly. No window benders just yet but a sign of what's to come. Must give credit to Westnet, only time our internet went was when the power went, otherwise it worked flawlessly throughout every storm.

Rainfall radar doesnt seem to be doing justice to just how heavy these rain showers are.

It's a wall of water and unhappily it appears there's a roof leak here.

Winds gusted a bit awhile ago but calm again now here in Galway it will be shocking later when it goes from nothing to full blown storm :pac:

I'm in the west of the city, not far from Salthill. There was 20 mins of gusts at around 10 but perfectly quiet since and before. As for the weather station, it says 7mph when I clicked and thats what it sounds like here.

Still totally uneventful here on the Donegal coast, bit of a breeze and a few showers. There's usually a gradual build up to the strongest winds but there's going to have to be a dramatic increase in the next few hours to get up to the forecast intensity.

Blustery and dry for the moment in West Cork. I risked taking the dog out for a walk and it wasn't too bad.

Not much happening in West Galway. It cranked up for a bit around 10pm but then it went quiet again. It doesn't 'feel' like it will get bad later.
