Well Mace is already @ 47 Gust 64kt @ midnight.

So despite reports, must be wild enough near the coast.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,134 ✭✭✭✭maquiladora

Mace Head gusting to 118 km/h at midnight. Probably another 3 hours or so before the strongest winds reach there.

Normal windy night in north Sligo and I am right on the coast. Some showers but no hail or thunderstorms.

She's getting quite blustery here in Limerick now. We're in the middle of a blustery spell preceded by one of those low growls that go on for a few minutes. Rain smashing against the windows.

The MetOffice buoy to our southwest is reporting wave height of 41 feet or 12.5 metres!

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,134 ✭✭✭✭maquiladora

Waves are starting to get huge at the K2 buoy.

    Oh man what a gust!

Just went out to secure the wheelie bins. Some nice strong gusts here but nothing too wild yet. Lights have flickered once.
I am about 20kms east of Galway City. Don't really want to sleep through it but I guess I'll have to.

It is far and away windier out there atm than at any time during any of the last few weeks storms here in South Kildare. Maybe it's just some bigger gusts coming down in the passing shower but I'll be astonished if the likes of casement or Oak Park (closest Met stations I know of) don't record some big gusts in the next few reports. Maybe it's very localized under the showers but it's roaring out there now. I'm rarely if ever impressed by a wind from the the South West or West, but it's hella windy tonight.

Edit: Some massive sounding gusts coming down the chimney now, haven't heard wind like it since an East gale awhile back which is naturally louder for my location. Very impressive considering I'm nowhere near the West or that.

EDIT 2: Calmed down a fair bit now. Must have been related to that shower as the built of it has passed along. Wish I had an anemometer as gusts were defiantly hitting 100km/h there. Excited for the next shower that comes along, will take a walk outside during it.

    Ah come on now. :p

Seems to be in line with that was forecast. Waves should be bigger to the northwest, though M6 buoy should be reporting higher waves than it is.

If it is this bad now, I can not start to believe how bad it will be around 03.00, stormiest it has been all winter at the moment, very violent sustained gusts.

Can't see the power holding out in Cork. It seems worst than last week.

It might be stormier now due to upper winds being brought down in heavy showers.

Surprised it has lasted this long tbh - very windly here at the moment.
