    These numbers might.
Average driving distance US Masters 2019
    1st Tony Finau 315.75
    2nd Rory McIlroy 313.88
I'm not arguing the fact that Rory McIlroy is one of the biggest hitters on tour. You don't need to count eagles to know that. Just that your initial metric wasn't what you thought it was.

Your comment is a bit vague. Please give detail.
What part was difficult to understand? It's only a couple of sentences.

Rory had three eagles in the US Masters this year.
He has 15 birdies (at par 3,4,5), well behind Schauffle 25, Woods 22, Harding 21.
McIlroy had 3 birdies at par 4s, Schauffle had 11.
Those numbers suggest Rory is a bomber.

Sorry, but those numbers don't suggest anything. Eagles on the par 5s in Augusta aren't exactly the preserve of the bombers. They're in reach in two for most of the players on tour unless the wind is against them. The big issue is being out of position. It doesn't matter how long you hit it then.

    Huh?!
What on earth has your first post got to do with your second post?
You dont give numbers for anyone else's eagles so how you can use those numbers to determine anything is beyond me.

A more important stat might be how many bogeys he had compared to the field

    Please explain your comment.

    Its pretty simple.
    Your post was illogical.
The relative score on each hole has little correlation with distance, unlike for example, average driving distance.

Rory has just played the most ridiculous shot! WTF! Stuck behind a tree and buried. punched up to a few feet from the hole. He is purring now.

Could be his week again. He seems to love this place.

    It was an incredible shot

He needs to stop spraying it all over the place off the tee first.

Throws away a good round with a bad finish

Awful finish. Looked to be in command until he duffed his bunker shot on 17. He's still well in it though.

Only 2 behind going into tomorrow. Will be out in the 3rd last group playing with Justin Rose

I think Rory will win tonight. Apart from Rose not too many names you would fear at the top

    2 poor pars for Rory on 7 & 8

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,073 ✭✭✭bigtimecharlie

Not looking like it's going to be his day.

Yeah especially on 7 after two great shots. Criminal to 3 putt from there then.

Can’t see him winning now. Still more positive results but for him to get in that world number one position he needs to really win from these positions

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,073 ✭✭✭bigtimecharlie

Bogie on 9 so won't win now.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,822 ✭✭✭✭First Up

    Embarrasing now.

Scratch that good finish. Having a bit of an implosion.

I think with Rory the biggest name he fears is his own. So many mistakes entirely of his own making.

    Chipped like a 28 handicapper.

Are all of his problems mental at present?

Hard to imagine the most consistent player of 2019 has too many mental problems.

Worth remembering that even with this mess up at the 10th hole - he was still good enough over the weekend for T8.

    Perhaps.

I'll admit I'm not a big golf fan, and my only regular viewing of the sport would be the majors, but he does seem to collapse when often in a great position.

Perhaps it's just the nature of the sport, or else I'm being too harsh on him.

Didn't realise he was the most consistent player around.
