Sweet God in heaven, can someone take the half backs aside and tell them to stop with this bursting out of defence and playing the ball to someone ten yards away (often in a worse position) and they turn and drive the ball to goal, which usually goes wides. They did it 3 times in a row and its plain stupid.

Then again, they have to go for points as they're no one to play the ball into to. The positional sense and nous is badly lacking and if KK had their shooting boots on, they'ld be well ahead.

Waterford specialise in this. The Brick can be excused because he can't hit the ball further than 20 yards but it seems to have become infectious. Cant blame them at all for shooting from distance though when you take into account the sheer level of incompetence from 10-15. It must be soul destroying watching ball after ball coming straight back at you.

Waterford have to be the worst hurling team in the league ,,div 1b is a very lofty league for them to be in ,2a would be pushing it ,as for management /coaching they must just play hand ball ,leave your hurleys at home boys **** that .

How do Waterford stay up? They need Galway and Tipp to lose?

Need clare and dublin to win. We should be in 1B though. Only embarrassing ourselves in 1a. Way out of our depth!

It's all very embarrassing isn't it. It's going to be a short summer for Waterford hurling. Is it the players or is it a management issue? It seems to me that from the bench to the field everybody looks lost.

That's the worst performance I've seen in years.

With a full panel fit we'd still struggle in 1a the way we're playing, score difference taking a pasting so permutations gettin trickier by tje minute.

90% the players. I don't think they are underperforming, they just aren't that good. This is Waterford though so the manager will get all the blame.

Young team which were moving in the right direction under previous management. Too early to say how they will do under this manager but the players themselves (namely the forwards) need time to develop. These things don't happen overnight, losing away to Kilkenny and Clare is no shock... ok the performances were terrible but that doesn't necessarily reflect what will happen in the summer.

I'm sure, as always, there will be a major over reaction in this thread. Hopefully we stay in 1A because it's better to be playing teams better than you IMO. Wait and see I guess.

This is the worst Waterford performance I have ever seen. Shape is non-existent. Being blown away all over pitch. Management have questions to answer.

The same players didn't do too badly last year with a different system, management haven't been awe inspiring so far bit to be fair the players are showing mo fight whatsoever here.

Is it not up to the manager to pick the best players and motivate them to structure them in a half decent way that means they won't get hammered as they have for the last two weekends. I'm shocked at how easy it is for the KK lads the WF boys seem like they don't care.

So who picks the team then? They all share the blame in this, both management and players. They seem to be somewhat asleep on many levels - one point the WD players were slipping in the first half and again in the second, KK lads aren't falling around the place so what kind of warm up where they doing and haven't they noticed this in the first half to sort it out.

Well I still can't figure out why Michael Ryan was thrown out, the same players obviously thought he wasn't good enough for them. Now they are even worse under new management and yet again its all the managements fault. Lads need to take their heads out of the sand.

What? I think you need to re read the opening line in my post and I know the manager picks the team I was replying to a post that was saying it was 90% the players fault so I was merely asking why doesn't the manager pick better players.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,588 ✭✭✭STIG83

    Probably nothing to pick from

Having witnessed Waterford's last 2 games I have to wonder if the present management structure have any idea about the game of hurling. Corner forwards are nowhere to be seen, opponents play the short puck out game with great results. Waterford play kamakazi hand passing(the game is hurling), there is seemingly no spirit in the camp and one wonders where pride in the county is. Time to rethink tactics, management and training

What better players would they be?

I have to say it's been a while since I seen a Waterford team that played like they don't know what they are doing and I ask the question is it the players or coach? I think any average player can become a good player if the coach is right and I don't think the coach is right. I would bet anything he won't last the full term.

I don't know I don't be off scouting the county for the best players as the management team should be doing.

I reckon its a bit of both, players and the coach. As a neutral who isnt from Waterford I was scratching my head as to why yee got rid of Michael Ryan, I thought he was doing a good job for yee. If the manager had a system in place Waterford would have been way more competitive, Ya just have to look at Laois with the way Seamus Plunkett has a specific game plan every game and they are just an average group of hurlers yet they pushed the Munster Champions to the pin of their collars today

there was a snobbery about his accent and old fashioned ways in addition the players felt he was responsible for all the Wise's that were hitting and they could do charter under a new manager . now they have the one they want and are worse. General consensus was that we were getting better under skully . that's no longer the case one year on
