If we win we stay up.

If we draw we stay up unless both Galway and Dublin both get a positive result (win or draw).

If we lose, Galway lose and Dublin win we would stay up by beating Galway on head to head. If Tip win we won't overhaul Galway on scoring difference unless they lose to Clare by 20 or so, so we can discount that.

If we lose and Tip win we could sneak up into fourth. This would require us to lose by less than Dublin but for the combined margin of victory in both games to be 5 or less e.g. we lose by 2 and Dublin lose by 3. It's a very narrow window but not an outlandish outcome.

Any corrections to the above are welcome. And that's not even going into the other teams! Crazy end to the league, Sky Sports would love it.

Definitely. Anything else requires us to rely on the right result in BOTH of the other matches.

Glad he's giving lads a chance to get the Clare game out of their systems, light enough forwards so jeres hoping the gameplan comes off as we'll struggle physically vs their back 6. Shame JJ Delaney wasn't a week off beong back, Brian Hogan was shiye at fb for them.

Last year we went up to nowlan park and had a right good rattle of them but ultimately a few errors cost us. Id like to see the same but this time without the errors. See where it takes us

I thought we were good value for the win that day but we couldn't close it out, lads tried to force it a bit and took the wrong options when the game was there for the taking. You're right though, we had them bar a few mistakes, something similar with more composure and we have a great chance.

He'll hardly start in the corner though? 2 man inside forward line to begin with tomorrow?

The 3 that started in the full forward line against Clare are dropped so i presume there is an emphasis on goals tomorrow?

It would be nice to get a few goals scored tomorrow. I feel that's what this team needs if we could score goals we would be a serious contenders for a 1/4 final or maybe even make the semis

LOL, we have Stephens, Kevins, Brians, Jamies and Philips... they have TJs, JJs, PJs, CJs and MJs to beat the band! It really is a different culture... :D

any opinions on how this match is actually going to go???

will be a good test of the management and see can they make changes quicker etc

    hope they do well

Cant see us winning it. Not enough in the forwards. If gleeson is starting hes not going to strengthen it; very raw and lightweight for this level yet. Dont think were tactically shrewd enough on the line either when things are going against us it seems we dont know what changes to make or where to make them. and with kk having it all to play for aswell its a big ask to go up there and pull off a win.

If we are to really challenge this year the first thing we need is a full squad of players to pick from. Until we do we are going to find it tough

It will certainly be a really tough game and it is hard to see a win for us. However you'd have to hope we can target the KK full back line which has looked a bit shaky at times while returning our own back unit to its miserly self regarding conceding scores ala the Galway/Dublin games.

Whatever happens, this team is a work in progress and will be over the year, the management team and players need to be given time and patience. Not everything will necessarily work out but already we're seeing some good signs

Fingers crossed all goes well and here's hoping both Dublin and Clare can pull off wins today as well

im willing to give them time and patience so long as they show some improvement....I don't want to see a return to the days of 20+ point beating for Waterford (which face it clare could have easily done)

or being relegated they will never progress properly if relegated

Just on this point. If it ends up happening (and I hope it doesnt), I dont think it will be the end of the world. 1B might not be the worst place for a largely young team, especially with the current format and the top 4 1B teams getting into the QF and therefore games against the 1A teams just as the sod begins to firm up.

Obviously 1A is the place to be but I wouldnt go along with the notion that relegation is an out and out disaster

its not the end of the world....it is a massive backwards step though...

put it like this imagine the uproar thered be on here, if they were to be relegated under micheal ryan or fitzgerald

its forward they should be aiming to go...why take a step back when so many good young players coming onto the team....even if they only hang on by fingertips to 1A for a year or two...it should really stand to them!!

Regardless of who the manager is I'd still stand by what I said.

I wouldnt even think its a massive backwards step to spend a season or 2 in 1B under the current format. There are some good teams in 1B so its a bit much to say the standard is terrible, 4 teams make the play off stages of the league and as I said it would be good to get games in the knock out stages something which we havent had in years. Also would be nice to be going into the championship with hopefully a run of wins. Finally look at Dublin and Limerick last year, 1B teams and provincial champions plus All Ireland semi finalists. Didnt do them any harm

  • Registered Users Posts: 39,498 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

Hopefully all the above will be a moot debate anyway and we'll be in the quarter finals this season.

I wouldnt be ruling us out today at all

have a feeling if we are playing Dublin in the relagation playoff it will be played on Sat 29th March in Croke Park as the current raiser for the Dublin vs Mayo football match
