Was walking down Catherine St yesterday and saw that familiar Badass Burritos insignia on a previously empty shop-lot. The outside has been done up but there's obviously still work to do inside.

It's just across from the Fine Wines off-licence on the corner. Will surely be open in the coming days/weeks.

I popped down to casa de burrito this eve. They aren't open until tomorrow. Went next door to an Italian called casa nova instead. Real spagetti bolognese and can for 9 quid. Bargain. It was hammering rain so I wasn't bothered with badass burritos especially after their last effort.

Great that Casa de Burrito is opening, must try it.

Badass Burritos seemed average to me in it's last location. I like hot stuff but found their hottest sauce Inferno pretty mild.

Casa nova is lovely - great pizza and the staff are really nice. I am fussy and I am always happy to eat from casa nova .

I have used their place in Ennis a fair few times for lunch. Burritos started off lovely at the beginning. Not half as nice recently. Very oily, greasy or something.

Has anyone been to Badass since they reopened?

I agree with you Sioda. Tried it over the weekend, the guacamole looks like something from a tube The hot sauce is actually hot though. Big portions and really tasty.

The shop isn't the nicest though, and there is communication problem with the staff.

Hopefully this will be ironed out though

What do you mean "can't eat it there"? Surely there are tables and chairs in the new place?

The Badass Burrito "hot sauce" has been mild at best since day one. Even though it seems that many people say the same, just like the microwave, it seems to me that it's not going to change.

No, it's very rough looking.
Literally just the serving counter and a shelf by the window holding the condiments.

So basically you have nowhere to eat a meal in a Burrito restaurant - a food that doesn't hold up to being reheated when you arrive home? What are you supposed to do - eat it on the side of the street?



Maybe she has made a high-level executive business decision to foucs on the takeaway trade. Or maybe there are no toilets and she cant serve there?

It's incredibly odd at best.

Had food in casa de burrito yesterday and I thought it was really nice. Not sure why people are complaining about a communication problem, chatted away with the pakistani girl who works there while waiting for the food. They don't charge extra for the toppings either.

It's a very small unit and not sure that it would be sustainable with take-away trade alone. Unfortunately I can't see it lasting more than a few months with location / premises.

Edit: They also only opened on Thursday, yet were closed yesterday & today.

That's very odd? She can't be closing the business while on days off surely?

Edit: Actually that's exactly what it appears to be. Not opening up at all on Monday or Tuesday.

I passed it on Saturday and it just looked like standing space. Also i passed it yesterday when it was closed - it was a hot/sunny day....and all the sauces in bottles were on the counter which is by the window. So the sauces took the full blast of the heat/sun over the course of the day.

Tried Casa de Burrito today and it was the worst burrito i have ever had. The beef was oily and very very tough. It was also the smallest burrito i've had, someone above mentioned they got a huge one so portion size must vary. Also, the only seemed to do chicken and beef, no pork which i would assume is the most popular type.

I wish we had somewhere like Boojum Burrito that is in Galway and Dublin.

That's not unusual, burritos are a street food. In fact Pablo Picante in Baggot St which has been voted Dublin's 4th most popular restaurant is nothing more than a counter and a drinks fridge.

+1 same in the states, in NY and San Fran many burrito places are takeaway only. The idea is to go somewhere nice outside and eat what is essentially a dinner wrapped up in a handy parcel.

People need to lay off Badass as well. The actual quality of her ingredients is very good and she's working uphill introducing a new food into the city. So what if she doesn't have a microwave? I have had probably hundreds of burritos in my time in Dublin and in other places and not having the tortilla press has never bothered me. They had a pile of bad luck with a ****ty unit the last time, Im hoping things work out much better this time. Their success is good for the overall food scene in the city and diversifying the produce. Leave the pettiness out of it.

It is not pettiness, I Will agree her ingredients are good but she lacks in other areas that are just as important such as customer support. She made promises and never kept them and when confronted about them she goes into a strop and gives out to you!

The best ingredients in the world won't help you when people won't want to visit to shop because of the environment.

Fine, you have your grievances. But there have been more than enough posts mentioning how she uses a microwave. It's constantly being brought up. Alright like just let it go. That's why its coming across as pettiness. Also its such a small issue. And speaking from my own experience with her, she's never been anything but pleasant to me. Even went as fair as to give me a free burrito because I mentioned once I thought the portion sizes could have been bigger. And then the next time I went in there the sizes were a good bit bigger. In all likeliness she's probably reading this thread or aware of it in some capacity so of course she's going to be a bit bristly about the constant attacks and nit picking.

Re the microwave that is your opinion, in my opinion I think it is a big deal as if you don't eat it soon the wrap gets rubbery because of the moisture being sucked out in the microwave.

Now any business who makes promises and doesn't keep them and when confronted about those promises get's annoyed and defensive doesn't deserve to be defended. If they gave a proper excuse like say it's not in the budget or whatever then that is fine, it's a perfectly good reason. But to give out to customers for bringing it up is not fine.

I wish her all the best though and I do hope the place gets business as it is nice to have something different in the city but she still won't be getting my business until some of the problems are fixed.

I was in Casa yesterday. Very friendly staff, very nice (and large) burrito. Reasonably priced. The Boarsie Burrito Brigade have a choice now.

This is what annoyed me with the old place. When it opened I thought the owner was lovely and hoped it did well. I was recommending it all over the place. Thought the food was good too.
Then one night I got it delivered on Just Eat.ie it was woeful and half size portions.
Still I went back but she would just randomly close the place with no warning which was so bloody annoying!!
Whenever I went she never had guacamole she said "Ohh the ones I bought today they are too hard to use"
Will you just buy a load and let them ripen on a shelf then that's the problem solved!?????
I was happy to hear it was reopening, said I'd give it a second chance. I walked by there last Sunday, It looks pretty dismal. Same colour scheme but the premises looks very rundown . Not very appealing and would put me off going in to be honest.

For those talking about Boojum I think the Galway place has seriously dropped in portion size recently.

My opinion, for what it is worth, is food better in Badass but Casa has seats which is important in Ireland, we don't always have weather suitable for outdoor eating.

Hope both do well, good to see empty units being filled.

Pity about the portions in Boojum, haven't been there in about 6 months but i guess that is the way things are going, smaller portions make them more money.

Someone asked about the price in Casa, 8euro for burrito and a can.

One thing I've picked up from badass is that I've always found the owner very nice and always willing to have a chat which is important. She ahs a clear passion about what she does but she isn't a business woman by no means. If she can get someone involved who can guide her in the business side it could be a success.

Tried both places now. Would agree. Badass definitely wins on the food. The meat she does is far superior. I was a fan of Casa de Burrito when I found them first in Ennis, but in both their places the food is really oily. It wasn't like that at the beginning.

Badass won't get any awards for decor, but the burrito was lovely and v.decent size. She seemed busy too, there was a few people ahead of me. Would love some hotter sauces though.

Would also agree on Boojum in Galway, you are not stuffed leaving there by any means. Both Badass and Casa were bigger portions. Tasty but I'd eat two from Boojum

Just had a burrito from casa de burrito and I found that it was okay. There was a lot more meat than badass but not as much rice or beans. The wrap was definitely not microwaved too.

Was cheaper too for the burrito. A taco chip was also got and it is very very nice. Probably one of the nicest ones I have tasted in Limerick.

Had casa during the week, grand it was good and big but the quality was pretty poor. Got the hottest salsa, warned it was quite hot and that I may need to add some sour cream to cool it down, I hate when people do that, if I didn't want the hottest they had I wouldn't have asked for it. Anyway salsa was pretty mild, chicken was ok but the rice flavourless. I must say again tho that it certainly was the biggest burrito I've seen in a while, like baguette sized! Quantity over quality I'd say.

Ate in badass today, got the pork. Lots of good flavour in the meat and rice. Again asked for the hottest salsa, pleasantly surprised that it had a decent kick off it, much more than the old badass, just could have done with more of it! Portion size just right, it was in good shape after walking home from town with it too.

Both places need some sprucing up tho, they really look awful. Badass is trying with theMexican pictures and stuff but alot more could be done. People do eat with their eyes!! Casa is worse, place is grubby for somewhere that's New and their Mexican 'decoration' is laughable.

Hopefully competition between the too will be healthy but badass are ahead at the moment!
