Thinking of picking one of these up and putting retropi on it.

Id like to be able to run 4 PS3 joyads over bluetooth, anyone know if this is easily achievable and will I have latency issues?

I had some issues on the model B+ with the bluetooth usb stick and pairing. Not sure if it will connect all 4 joypads.

Updated the SDCard I had setup for my arcade machine which I used for my Pi1(.5?). From the old emulators, I think I noticed a marked improvement.

I compiled a recient version of MAME (or was it MESS?) but never got around to throwing it on to test.

As a XBMC/Kodi player - the Pi2 is an excellent upgrade to the Pi1. Menus as normal a little sluggish to appear but playback was perfect for 720/1080p videos.

Case: its a pity the folks at Pimoroni decided to cheap out on the updated version of the Pibow Coupé for Raspberry Pi 2. They removed one layer of perspex which makes the GPIO pins exposed. Not good if it might be banging around inside a metal arcade cab :(

Been having fun with the new RPi 2 this weekend and enjoying the performance boost on RetroArch, also very handy the updated version detected my Gamestop Xbox360 and original N64 controllers (didn't need to config for N64 emulator which was very handy)

SuperFX games are smooth, N64 is a bit iffy on some games but I expect that to get better since it's early days for this model and handles PS1 games perfectly.

Gonna keep the RPi 1 as my media center as I have that fine-tuned and runs at an acceptable speed for me.

Also, I wanted to take a break away from configuring it so I made a temporary case for it today :pac:

I like the pins exposed on the case. But yeah not the best protection for inside an arcade machine.

Did you compile mame/mess on the Pi itself or use a cross compiler? I can test it on my Pi 2 if you like :)

That case matches the Pi well! :pac:

Ok some of you guys might know this. Been messing around with the latest version of Retropie on my Pv1 (Model B) and I have the strangest issue with emulating PSX games.

I only want it for the odd game of Tekken 3 or Abe's Oddysee.

Anyway, every time I start up a game I get scanlines. As I plan to run this on a CRT anyway I have no need for this. Thing is... I've followed every tutorial out there that I can find and I can't seem to get rid of them! I go into the RetroArch config and turn all the advanced video features off - nothing. I've gone and deleted the glsp shaders directory thinking that would help but every time I boot up a game they're still there!

    ...any advice?

Have you gone in and edited the actual .cfg files? As in "/opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch.cfg".

I'm doing a good bit in Retropie at the moment as I'm using that as the frontend for the C64 mod. You can also hide all the boot text and have a boot video as well on it, but you prob know that yourself.

Yeah tried that but the emulator doesn't seem to pay any heed to it at all.

Ok, well then if you really want no shaders (and retroarch is a pain sometimes with holding shader settings and configs) just delete them all. With no shader files in the shader folder it doesn't apply them :)
Backup the files in "/opt/retropie/emulators/retroarch/shader" and then delete them.

The only issue with doing this is retroarch might see you have no shaders and enforce its default built in "stock" one.
"n" and "m" change shaders as you play, so you can leave the shaders in the folder and see if any are blank.

I tried that already, I think it is using the default shader for PSX for some reason.

I didn't know about the N and M commands, I'll have a look at those when I get home later.

I'm kinda hoping that getting rid of the scanlines will improve the emulation performance of Tekken 3 to be honest.

Sure give it a go and see I guess. Best to make sure you are running the latest 2.6.0 version of retropie as there have been a lot of changes and performance tweaks in the last couple of updates. There is a version for the Pi 2 and older Pi 1 so you shoul dbe able to get the best out of whatever you have.

My Retropie is using the default blank shader at the moment as I have removed all the shader files and don't have any scanlines. You'll be able to tell if its using the default shader by watching the console output text when loading or exiting from a PSX game.

You can see the console output text when I load and exit the PSX game in the below vid(best in full screen 1080p to see it).

It's just a vid that plays when the Pi is booting up instead of a black screen :)
Below is the actually raw video I did.

Ugh so tomorrow is pay day. Raspberry Pi v2 and HDMI capture card before my rent goes up? Yes please.

On the plus side with the HDMI capture card at least I can knock more Raspberry Pi tutorials out the door.

The Keyrah V2 arrived today. It's a bit larger than I was expecting so I'll have to rethink the full size SD card slot location inside the C64.
Still, tested it in both normal and emulator modes and all the keys work as expected(on the Raspberry Pi and my main PC).

Thanks, at the moment I'm calling it the "Purple Nurple" :)

It's starting to take shape internally now. I got a small and thin HDMI cable to connect to the coupler and it looks a lot neater than the massive cable i was using..
Just waiting on a small USB hub to arrive from amazon to install inside the case and have to sort out the full size external SD Card port somehow. Also need to cut off some of the excess hot glue as i went a bit heavy in places and don't like the look.
The external USB cable thats going into the case is just a temporary solution until I solder on the headers to the Keyrah and connect the keyboard that way.

Nice, I need one of these.
Can't you solder header pins on and connect to the USB to save the external USB cable.

Yep, I said that above :)
It's just a temp cable until I get around to the soldering. The Keyrah V2 pcb is setup so you can get a header on there pretty handy.

The breadbin is my fav C64.
The newer models just look like an Amiga, and the breadbin also has lots more space internally(and a better 6581 sid chip in general, not that i'm using a sid chip in this mod :)).

My C64 back in the day was the newer style(Lightgun Fantastic pack) but I swore I'd buy the breadbin model one day when I got into retro stuff just never got around to it

If you can't get a C64 try for a VIC-20, the case is the same (which cause the C64 designers plenty of headaches !!)

Think on doing something similar but purely console based, anyone got a dead Megadrive or SNES lying about ?

I suppose the breadbin has the classic retro 80's look, and the newer model is very much 90's.
Well I think so anyway :)

That USB has to go, totally ruins the look of the mod!! Although some might say I've already managed that with its purpleness :)

I wish I was better at soldering as I really don't want to feck up that nice and neat white pcb :0/
