How many of you cared or even knew about this yesterday? 23 dead, a day of absolute hell and carnage. But these were brown people and they are not like us.

Sorry to people if you personally knew someone at the Marathon but the rest of you sicken me.

Only seen the mod warning now...My last post.

No excuse for actions like this against innocent people. The person or persons responsible for it are pure scum and should be put down the second they are found.

Yay! More death and destruction - that's the answer!

There will be more controlled explosions. Lots of abandoned bags in the area from people who have left the scene in panic.

The video clip shows the bomb going off when the timer was at 4:09. Marathons have the biggest clump of finishers around the four-hour mark, but it would take about ten minutes for those runners to get to the start line.

Whoever did this had planned the detonation for the time when there would be maximum spectators and participants around the finish line. No doubt at all that this was malicious.

Yeah, heard that too. Bit of a relief considering shrapnel is almost always used.

The tosser in the blue jacket who says "oh my god, they're dead" is a sad example of a human being - trying to record the scene instead of helping.

He might not be able to do much but at least he could move the hoarding.

To be fair to them, the last time a major city was bombed (NYC), the pentagon was hit and another plane hijacked and crashed in Pennsylvania...

My dad was a block away, having been half a block closer, given up on trying to get to the finish line to have a look, turned around and walked away. So glad he wasn't that bothered trying to have a look.

glad for you. one race hes glad he didnt get any further in.

Don't be such a bleeding heart, you're the type I'd assume who'd love to just cuddle those responsible for this.

RT @davabel: Fine. Reporting. I was 10 feet from explosion. Shaken up. But not a scratch. Worst thing I ever saw.

This is kinda hopeful that the bombs were not that strong and hopefully loss is minimal

that looks to be the second explosion...if you look in the background you can see a cloud of smoke from the first bomb

It hasn't been pointed out that in the distance of the footage just after the explosion there is another cloud of dust like a second explosion, absolutely terrible.

How can you assume how people should react in such a situation? It's all well and good saying people should jump straight in and move hoarding but there is such a thing as shock you know.

Al Queda's primary strength nowadays is local grass-root sympathisers turned terrorists. The days of intense training in Arab countries for members before an attack are gone, it leaves too much of a trail. Nowadays it's a recruiter, who may or may not be trained, and internet access. Organising large scale attacks like this is more difficult than it would've been pre-9/11.

Yeah, true. There are reports of two backpacks being left leaning against the building, and police have found ball bearings so it would appear my guess was correct. The photos show orange fireballs with grey smoke, not white fireballs with black smoke like an electrical transformer explosion would be.

What I meant was it was more than likely carried out by one or two individuals due to its 'small' scale, rather than a full on terrorist attack.

    Fight, flight or fright.
Some people will get in there and help, some will run to get out of there and some will just not know what to do.
In fairness in the seconds after a bomb goes off it is their nature that determines their next move. Takes a while for the brain to engage and tell them what they should do.

I always have admiration for the emergency services in situations like this. I know they're trained but listening to some of them logically and calmly organise things on the scanners is amazing.

News reckon its terrorists but bomb was not designedvto maximise death or injury toll

You should, since you don't know what shrapnel is.

Shotgun shells are designed the same way. So this appears to have been a pipebomb designed to release ball bearings.
