Wow, this is terribly sad. I suspect it's some homegrown loons pulling some sh*t.

Odd how people are so quick to assume its terrorism in a country that has armed nutbags killing people what seems like every weekend with terrorist attacks very rare.

Thats not to say this wasnt the work of some terrorist organisation but its just as likely it was a local with issues.

    Terrorism can be domestic...

Fcuk thats scary, the JFK museum is nowhere near the marathon. That means there could be bombs anywhere in the city. I'm not getting public transport home till way later tonight, hopefully when things have calmed down.

Some places are reporting a suspected device outside the Mandarin hotel too.

According to Business Insider Boston PD are warning each other to be cautious around bins.

A lot of this is possibly BS too, there's always alot of noise after these bombings.

No TV news stations are reporting these as far as I can tell btw.

the scanner was saying confirmed explosion at jfk library...not controled

Was thinking. That would have been a seriously fast controlled explosion.

They'll blame it on North Korea all Iraq like.

They don't need an excuse to invade NK

It is indeed saddening. Do we know who is behind it?

the target and the types of explosion make me feel like its a homegrown terrorist trying to act the "Patriot" on patriots day. This is my own opinion though and I have 0 proof.

If it was an al-quida style attack i would imagine a much bigger scene and the lack of suicide reports also show a non suicide bomber attack. (due to how suicide bombs go off its pretty easy to spot one and even identify the bomber)

The fact that it's 'Patriot's day' today suggests it's possibly domestic terrorism.

My initial thoughts would be home grown Islamic extremists under the influence of a radical clerics online preaching. Al Qaeda will claim responsibility soon enough if it does turn out to be a home grown Islamic extremists. AQ are more an ideology now than a group.

Doubt it was a backpack. More than likely a thin suicide vest and possibly dressed as a runner in the marathon to avoid detection before the attack.

It would be very easy to walk around with a jacket and backpack - thousands of spectators were doing just that before the explosion.

I've gone down to watch the race at the finish line before when friends were running, and pretty much everyone comes down with a backpack and a blanket because it gets cold.

    Very far away

Berklee School of Music in Boston is very close to the marathon route.

Well according to sky there was a bomb which was a bomb and exploded due to it being a bomb, bombs are known to explode and this was definitely such a bomb which did explode, just to update you there has been a bombing.
Its thought there may .... or may not have been.. a bomb involved.

heres our resident bomb expert. urrrh well bombs are known to explode and injure people, if a bomb explodes it may kill people, this may well have been such a bomb.

Small homemade bomb is preliminary cause of explosion at Boston Marathon, law enforcement officials tell NBC

Looking like homegrown lunatic/s to me.

Its the Boston Police that are confirming 2 dead via twitter

Yes but Fox reported 3, others reporting 5, some were even reporting over 10 online.

This is what i am getting at. The death toll switches depending which channel you switch to.

Sadly by now a typical sequence of events for reporting in the wake of a tragedy.

Apologies if it said "confirmed" instead of "controlled". Must have misheard it but nothing on CNN yet. Just subway services suspended

Yeah but none of those are the police.

    Which was my point!

The seemingly incessant urge of news agencies to get the "scoop" and putting out unconfirmed reports which spread panic and fear.

Wait for the police and report what the official sources say.

Implying the US didn't set these bombs themselves as a false flag operation in order to create public fear and anger at "terrorists".
