Maybe it's just me being a cynic, but crocodile tears.

That's highly cynical. Barack is a man of great pride in his country, why would he fake to be sad? He's hardly going to be jumping around happy is he?

I'm travelling to Boston on Thursday as it happens....

I know it sounds irrational, but I'd say Boston will be one of the safest places in America come Thursday.

As opposed to Bush's fantastic swift response following Hurricane Katrina...

Anyway, back on topic, I really just will never understand acts like this. I get that sometimes war happens and even deaths happen as an unfortunate consequence of world affairs. But acts like this, at an event where so many children and families would have been present, where thousands of people who would have spent months raising money for charities and training their hearts out for worthy causes- and then someone decides to do this. I just don't understand it at all.

God love them all, RIP to the dead and my thoughts are with the people of Boston and beyond affected by this.

Bush, by law, could not do anything at all until the governor of Louisiana asked for help. She did not request help for several days after the hurricane hit. She had even refused the offer of several governors to send help. Bush sent in FEMA as soon as help was requested.

If it was some sort of Al-Qaeda splinter cell or something, or a bunch of Jihadists, would someone not have attempted to claim immediate responsibility?

Surely there are plenty of groups out there who would love to be behind this from the perspective of it increasing their fanatical following.

Also, i've never been to Boston so this is just an assumption, but there should be a lot of CCTV of the street in question and surrounding blocks?

Iraq is in the middle of a civil war and has been for some time. It has had plenty of coverage. Syria is the same. Lots of death but lots of coverage but it also died down. It would be impossible to cover every killing in an active conflict zone. The U.S. is not in a state of civil war. It does not have constant conflicts within its borders between its people. The Boston Marathon is not a military target either. It is purely civilian and the targeting of it is for no other reason to instill terror.

The U.S. is also a country a lot like our own in a great many ways. People see this as an unexpected unprovoked attack on innocent civilians and they see how very easily it could have been them. They see a reflection of themselves in the victims. I can't see why people are using this to try push some political agenda. Finding it easier to empathise with people similar to you does not make you a bigot, a racist or a hypocrite.

People should stop posting NYPost links, very few sites are running with it, although I do note our good old independent is running it as well, 12 has not be confirmed except for the likes of Ny Post, unreliable at the best of times and certainly when they throw out a carte blanche number with no reliable sources.
